No.
Yale and Cornell are both in. But neither are locks for a home game.
Penn is out if Princeton wins tomorrow and quite frankly they might already be out anyway in favor of Denver.
Tierney factor?
Agree. Max would be 3 Ivies if Princeton gets the AQ and Cornell and Yale get at-large bids. Other 6 AL in that scenario likely: Duke, UVA, ND, Penn State, Maryland, Hopkins.
Yep. Breschi, Mearns, and a guy in the Denver athletic department are 3/5 of the committee. The Orfling wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 10:44 pm
It’s not at all far fetched to think that Denver in Tierney‘s last year might get the nod over what would be a third Ivy.
FYI, Cornell's Chayse Irelan is unanimous 1st Team All-Ivy goalie. The Orfling wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 9:33 am Another challenging matchup for Yale today against a Princeton team that must win to make the NCAA tournament (Yale should make it into the tourney even with a loss but you never know). Princeton is loaded with talent -- 8 players got all-Ivy recognition -- and has a stingy defense headlined by the 1st team All-Ivy goalie Michael Gianforcaro and joined by no less than four second team All-Ivy defenders (2 close D, 1 ssdm, 1 LSM). They have a transcendant scorer (Mackesy) and a goalie playing at an all-American level. They demolished Yale the first time around (winning by 13).
But, as we saw on Friday, Yale is in a different place from where it was when the two teams met before, and when Yale is "on" they feature an explosive offense. Keys to the game from a Yale fan's point of view:
- Try to maximize possessions from the face-off X -- McMeekin and Ginder went a little better than 50% against Yale the first time around, but Yale's FOGOs are playing well right now. Princeton is so disciplined (and has seen the film from Friday) that I don't expect Yale to be able to push transition after face-off wins but every face-off won is potentially one fewer battle against Mackesy.
- Without someone like Gavin Adler, Yale can't stop Mackesy -- who killed them with 5 straight 1st quarter goals when they played in March -- but maybe they can limit the damage. CJ Kirst had 5 goals against Yale in the ILT semis but only 1 in the second half when Yale pulled away.
- Limit the penalties. Yale's man-down defense has improved but Mackesy and co. are excellent in man-up situation and Princeton was 5-7 on EMO with 2 first quarter EMO goals when they last met.
- Focus on a clean clearing game -- this has been a bit of a weakness even during this six game winning streak. Some failed clears are because Yale is going for fast outlets to spark the transition game, which they probably need to do to win, but being aware of game situation and playing it a bit safer on occasion might be good.
- Don't get frustrated if Gianforcaro is standing on his head in goal early -- just keep working the angles and opportunities.
Good luck to both teams today.
- Give Jared Paquette the same pre-game meal he had before the ILT semis -- he was at 58% on the day and was one of the two keys, along with the success at the face-off X, to Yale's win.

Columbia Men’s Lacrosse alumni had a presence at all 3 games of the ILT, including a banner in the stands during Sunday’s final. Please check out our Instagram for additional details and to learn more about us!
5% of $20mm is $1MM, which would likely be enough?
The overall excellence of Ivy League lacrosse combined with some of the Ivies' idiosyncratic rules & customs might make a realistic price tag a bit higher. For example, a competitive team probably needs at least 2-3 endowed coaching positions.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 4:45 pm5% of $20mm is $1MM, which would likely be enough?
More than just "primary"?
Or would $30mm be needed?
Endowed coaching positions are $5mm+, right?
