It's pretty impressive they don't have more years like this considering how small their school is. Probably the best NY program pound for pound

Eager to revisit this STATEMENT in June.
I'll be here ready to eat crow. But that aside it's very interesting looking at the mid season results across LI.... If losing builds character, there's a lot of personal growth happening this year

It's almost a public private school. It really hasn't changed much since I went thee in the 70s. The program started in the late 60s I think. By 1979, they were playing Sachem for the LI championship. Obviously this was before the student population class system used now in NYS.kr522 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 3:19 pmIt's pretty impressive they don't have more years like this considering how small their school is. Re: Long Island 2023
Connetquot 11, Northport 10.
Tigers struggled to do much of anything against Connetquot's zone. The game was only close because Connetquot couldn't clear the ball at all. It wasn't until the 4th quarter that Northport started running better sets and getting some good looks against the zone rather than shooting from 17 yards.
I do think this could turn out differently in the playoffs if we make some adjustments, but Connetquot was the better team.

That title game is a bit before my time, but I remember the days of no classifications….and i wish today there were less league restrictions, at least during the regular season. I get doing the playoffs by classoldbartman wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 3:27 pmIt's almost a public private school. It really hasn't changed much since I went thee in the 70s. You were predicting this, but maybe they figured something out during the gameLI13 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 9:52 pm Connetquot 11, Northport 10.

I was looking at the Suffolk County standings.Apparently the powers that be on the Huntington district closed one of the Half Hollow Hills high schools. Both Smithtown survived consolidation as did the Sachems.
South Fork high school is I assume a Private school.

Murf, I think it’s an amalgamation of all the different Hamptons schools…but that’s a guess on my part. I assume they’re hoping to gang up on Ward Melville….we’ll see how that goeswahoomurf wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 9:03 pm I was looking at the Suffolk County standings.Apparently the powers that be on the Huntington district closed one of the Half Hollow Hills high schools. Both Smithtown survived consolidation as did the Sachems.

South Fork is not a high school, you are correct. It's Southampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson/Shelter Island/Etc.
Both Half Hollow Hills East and Half Hollow Hills West are still two separate high schools. They just are now combined for lacrosse purposes only. Still a strong rivalry between the schools in most other sports.

Nobody closed Hills East or West, they are just playing as a combined team.
Re: Long Island 2023
If it were up to me, I would ditch the traditional D1 and D2 setup in Suffolk and move to a power league. 12 teams...have the coaches vote on it before the first season, after that it can go to promotion/relegation with the bottom two spots moving into the second league and the top teams in the second league moving up. Everyone in the power league would make the playoffs in their classification. That way, instead of Mount Sinai and Ward Melville playing the 13th seeded team in D1 and D2 and beating them 19-3, they'd play each other!kr522 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 3:44 pmThat title game is a bit before my time, but I remember the days of no classifications….and i wish today there were less league restrictions, at least during the regular season. Ahh I forgot about Ross, which is technically a private school. And East Hampton. I maybe wrong about any players from Shelter Island being included, logistics are probably too tough.
I think Half Hollow Hills East was having a numbers issue, hence the combination.
Thanks!!!

In the past I thought I remembered Shelter Island being included. They have so few kids that it may be that none are on the team anymore.JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 10:28 pmLI13,LI13 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 10:16 pmIt's Southampton, Bridgehampton, Pierson, East Hampton, Ross, and Hampton Bayskr522 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 9:11 pmMurf, I think it’s an amalgamation of all the different Hamptons schools…but that’s a guess on my part. I’m in favor of that, or something close to that….let each team play 3-4 mandatory league games each year instead of 7 or 8….it keeps some rivalries going and allows the better divisional teams to stay on the schedule of the top teams (ie, Manhasset plays Wantagh, South Side, and Lynbrook) but opens up the schedule for 4 more LI games against the A teams, or going to Suffolk. But I don’t think Island Trees lacrosse gets anything out of losing 16-5 (or worse) each year to Manhasset
Re: Long Island 2023
7 or 8!!! Current mandatory league game number is 14. 2 non league games for a maximum reg season number of 16 contests.
Re: Long Island 2023
I was looking at Manhasset schedule but yeah Suffolk is ridiculously parochial
Re: Long Island 2023
I wonder why HHH decided to combined Boys Lacrosse yet continued to keep all other sports alone ? Lack of interest? Hell football is a more expensive sport. The cost of safely equipping 2 sets of players, two staffs, blocking sleds etc. pales by comparison.kr522 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 9:11 pmMurf, I think it’s an amalgamation of all the different Hamptons schools…but that’s a guess on my part. PUZZLING.
Re: Long Island 2023
I understand this is the way it's done in other sports but most other sports don't have nearly as many uncompetitive games as lacrosse. Requiring teams to play 14 league games in these enrollment based leagues hamstrings both the best programs and the developing ones. It's too bad. Section XI will never listen to us though.
