3 teams in the NCAAs.
That was one of the big surprises of last season.
I expected good play from 4-5 BE teams, but only one
NCAA entry.
Curious to see if Marquette and Providence bounce back.
A five team race this season ?

And even SJU with a good mid season stretch, but no BE wins.

Otherwise, yes, the Pios have Tierney, and the Pios had probably the top recruiting class, a lot of senior leadership.

Per Lax Magazine's rankings http://lummys.com/fanlax/2018/10/09/d1- ... 019-feb-1/, they show:

9. Denver
18. Georgetown
20. Marquette
* with a consideration for Villanova

I don't think Villanova is getting much respect. They had some good freshman last year.

Last year's end of season ranking:
8. Denver
11. Georgetown
21. Villanova
33. Marquette
43. St. Johns
49. Providence

2019 Face-Off Yearbook: Big East Preseason Rankings, All-Conference
Wednesday January 9th, 2019 2:00pm

Inside Lacrosse presents its Big East preseason rankings and all-conference team, as published in the Face-Off Yearbook. Coaches are surveyed for the Face-Off Yearbook all-conference teams, with the IL staff making final decisions. Order a Face-Off Yearbook here; they will sell out soon.

Storyline: Bid Thieves?
Denver has been dominant in the Big East regular season, but they've also not won the Big East Tournament since 2015. Marquette took the title twice, then Georgetown last season. This has meant multiple bids for the Big East—three last year, with Villanova as the last team in— as Denver takes an at-large bid and boxes out bubble teams. Denver will want to leave no doubt and win in the first week of May, something the seniors have not done.

Preseason Big East Rankings
1. Denver
2. Georgetown
3. Villanova
4. Marquette
5. Providence
6. St. John's

Big East Player of the Year Favorite: Ethan Walker, Denver
It is no longer the reign of Denver face-off specialist Trevor Baptiste. The Pioneers still have the league’s best player, though, with junior Ethan Walker, who put up an all-time freshman season for Denver. He set the program record for points by a freshman (40G, 32A). He’s more than a finisher, with an excellent mid-range shot and the ability to take over a game.

Preseason All-Conference
A- Daniel Bucaro, Georgetown
A- John Wagner, Marquette
A- Ethan Walker, Denver
M- Colton Jackson, Denver
M- Connor Kirst, Villanova
M- Tanner Thomson, Marquette
M- Lucas Wittenberg, Georgetown
FO- Colin Keating, Providence
SSDM- TJ Comizio, Villanova
LSM- Noah Richard, Marquette
D- Dylan Gaines, Denver
D- Dylan Johnson, Denver
D- Gibson Smith, Georgetown
G- Tate Boyce, Providence

Big news out of South Bend

Curious if Ryder Garnsey ends up transferring outside of the ACC. I hope the best for him academically and hope he gets back on the field for lacrosse soon.

I believe he loses his eligibility altogether.

College Crosse posted a Big East Postcast yesterday

https://www.collegecrosse.com/2019/1/25 ... a-lacrosse

College Crossecast 2019 Conference Previews: The Big East
Last year the Big East got three teams into the NCAA Tournament, more than even the Big Ten or Ivy League. A retooled Denver squad looks to be the class of the conference again, but there's plenty of teams chomping on the bit to wear the Big East crown.

https://collegecrosse.podomatic.com/?ut ... dcast-link

Denver - 0:24
Georgetown - 3:37
Marquette - 7:52
Providence - 11:03
St. John’s - 14:03
Villanova - 17:27
Predictions - 20:24

Another huge OT win for Villanova over #1 Yale.

Overall, Big East did fairly well, except for Denver letting Duke come back to beat them by 1 in the last 10 seconds of the game.

FRIDAY2.15.19MEN'S LACROSSE
Marquette 14 Jacksonville University 12

SATURDAY2.16.19MEN'S LACROSSE
Denver 9 Duke 10
Robert Morris 11 Georgetown 14
Providence 8 Bryant University 11
St. John's 18 University of Hartford 10
Villanova 11 Yale University 10

Who the most improved this year? St. Johns or Marquette?

Tate Boyce.
27 saves !
Yes, against a young St. Joe’s team, but still a team that had scored 36 goals in their prior two games.
If that guy gets hot, well, look, the Big East is up for grabs, St. John’s took it to High Point.

Overall, I another good weekend for the Big East against the ACC and CAA:

Denver beats UNC / ACC 12-10
Villanova beats Delaware / CAA 17-9
Georgetown beats Hofstra / CAA 14-6

But, we came up on the wrong end against the B10 and NEC:

St. Johns loses to Michigan / B10 11-16
Marquette loses to Ohio Sate / B10 9-13
Providence loses to Sacred Heart / NEC 16-17. Tough loss. Providence was winning 10-5 at half time.

Not a good look for Georgetown to open conference play. I saw them as the team most likely to challenge Denver this year.

Not the way Hoyas wanted to start conference play, clearly. But “not a good look”? They couldn’t find the back of net in 2nd and 3rd quarters (kudos to goalie for 3 point blank saves as well) It’s that simlple. Outshot Marquette 48-30. Looking at history, Hoyas can still “challenge” Denver and the rest of conference -
Last 4 of 5 Marquette/Hoya games have been one goal finals. Yes, a Hoya win would be preferable for positioning in conference no doubt but last year Hoyas lost to Marquette in OT, then lost 5-4 to Denver next game. That Hoya team, as we know, won BET last year. So not the start they wanted but think it was more of playing a very good team and rival, coupled with a very ill timed scoring slump more than “not a good look” effort. Big game Saturday at Denver. Win or lose I think Hoyas can make noise in BE this year, just now have made it a bit harder on themselves opening 0-1 with Pios up next.
