I do think a good many of us look out at the world (El Paso, San Bernardino, Buffalo, Charleston, Virginia Tech, Aurora, Columbine, Las Vegas, Oxford, etc., etc., etc., etc...) and think, "well, not here anyway." This seems increasingly unrealistic.

Baltimore

Post by runrussellrun »

Baltimore, is doing fine.

Thank goodness the game is in College Park. No friggin way would we be going to that dangerous city.

what, billygates/msn newsfeed NOT covering all the 12 year olds being killed in Baltimore.

black on black, don't pay the bills.

Unless, of course, you get a $10 million dollar research grant, to study "...why inner cities struggle.."...

Johns Hopkins ever get government money to "study the problem"

exactly

carry on. Guns and killing IS fine

the "cheerleaders" getting shot....smells like a drug deal gone bad.

Apparently a 6 year old girl and her father were shot and wounded by a neighbor for entering his property to retrieve a ball on Tuesday.

Local and federal law are still searching for the suspect, who was also charged with assaulting his girlfriend with a sledgehammer in December.

just wondering WHO is filling all these private prisons in the US, if sycho paths like this are roaming around, amongst us.

of course, the gun and ownership was legal.

Gun problem or people problem ?

Crazy people.......just out of prison......

Is your only solution to just ban all gun ownership ?

Remember when that Mormon kid, who killed a nurse, and attempted to kill the child....in Amherst, NH....a few years back.

You can't fix crazy, but boy, we sure can put them away.

Wonder if any lawsuits will arize from this creeps prison release records, especially the shrink/Docs. And, of course, any big pharma drugs he was placed on.

Yeah, shocker, right?

https://amp.kansascity.com/news/local/c ... 17706.html

"A grandson of the man charged with shooting a Black teen in Kansas City’s Northland last week said he was “appalled” and “disgusted” at his grandfather’s actions and is thankful Ralph Yarl is recovering.

“I was horrified. I thought it was terrible,” Klint Ludwig said of his immediate reaction to hearing about the shooting of the 16-year-old. “It was inexcusable. It was wrong.

“I stand with Ralph, and really want his family to achieve justice for what happened to them. Their child or grandchild or nephew’s life was fundamentally changed forever, over a mistake and someone being scared and fearful.”

Ludwig said he and his grandfather, who goes by the first name Dan, used to be very close.

“But in the last five or six years or so, I feel like we’ve lost touch,” he said. “I’ve gotten older and gained my own political views, and he’s become staunchly right-wing, further down the right-wing rabbit hole as far as doing the election-denying conspiracy stuff and COVID conspiracies and disinformation, fully buying into the Fox News, OAN kind of line. I feel like it’s really further radicalized him in a lot of ways.”

Ludwig said his grandfather had been immersed in “a 24-hour news cycle of fear and paranoia.”

“And then the NRA pushing the ‘stand your ground’ stuff and that you have to defend your home,” he said. “When I heard what happened, I was appalled and shocked that it transpired, but I didn’t disbelieve that it was true. The second I heard it, I was like, ‘Yeah, I could see him doing that.’”

why aren't the mutlple, almost daily, killings actual DEATHS, of 12 year olds, in Baltimore, of "national" interest.

you blaming fear porn now, seacoaster, for the "guns", now ?

Glad the victim looks to be fine.

Your solution, and focus on the fear porn, IS what? Grandpa would have been "fine" , if watching and reading what you want him too ?

House to house search, for guns. Take them all. atf is really, really, better at this.....now that dhs is involved....what could go wrong.

Don't wanna be like Australia........if just for the single fact that they suck at lacrosse.

No surprise.
We’re edging closer and closer to failed state status.

Is bodily security (to include autonomy) an unreasonable expectation? What role does government at all levels play in that?

Or are these just the eddying currents of the whirlwind?

Today is the 24th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings, 12 kids and their families and friends shattered, and a teacher killed. And we are still talking about -- and doing nothing about -- gun safety. In this at least, government has failed us.

Silly.

Crime rates today are less than they were 25 years ago.

Murder rates went up during Covid, but have been trending down last souple years.

Property crimes, like car thefts, are up. Mostly because stuff (due to inflation and supply chains) are more expensive and valuable.

Seems to me the main problem is all these bubbas armed to the teeth. And convinced, completely wrongly, via their facebook page that the world is ending.

I recently moved from the suburbs to the downtown urban core. It is pretty nice around here. Haven't noticed an apocalypses in the neighborhood.

And this is not the purview of government?

I’m a Holmesian “I pay taxes to purchase civilization” type.

So, since your personal security is statistically secure, it’s fcuk everyone else? At what point should there be some, any, government response to these episodes of gun violence? Or are you good playing the odds? Hope you don’t krap out.

Are you a libertarian?
