Blue Jays with the #6 RPI heading into the Rutgers game. With a win, Hopkins is likely to move up to a top 5 RPI.

Re: My top 25
Based on all prior polls, it seems odd to base your rank on what you speculate might happen in a future game vs actual results. However, controversial picks are the norm at IL because it gets clicks and responses. Terry Foy’s lacrosse background is as an IL intern. He hasn’t played the game at any level to have real insight. All that being said, Virginia’s history against Duke belies any reason so Foy has a good chance of being right without any real knowledge or analysis. He is rolling the dice.Laxter wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 11:24 pmFoy is basically just trolling UVa fans at this point. Good work if you can get it I guess. Tell us more about your West Virginia trip…MoralTerpitude wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 11:10 pm So funny enough, Foy has Duke at #1, then Maryland at #2, above both UVa and Notre Dame. Cornell seems to be everyone’s pick at #5.

I really like this order. Great job!
It’s been a long long time to see Hopkins ahead of Maryland.

Army is a solid top 10 team, but 4/5 might be pushing it at this point.
Princeton too high at 14.
Everyone sleeping on UMass.

How so re UMass?
Yes, they recently squeaked by Brown (good win) and a first game close win over Army (which has come on strong), but solid losses to BU and Yale...and Rutgers.
Are you saying they could win their conference? I'd buy that.
Re: My top 25
Plus they beat Brown when Brown was shorthanded. I know that doesn't matter in terms of RPI, etc, but it certainly adds an asterisk to the win.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:26 amHow so re UMass?

They have the #19 RPI right now. 6-3 record. All losses to teams in top 25 RPI. A top 10 win over Army. Wins over Brown, Albany, Vermont, and High Point which don’t jump out but are more solid than you might expect.ICGrad wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:29 amPlus they beat Brown when Brown was shorthanded. They most likely won’t get into the tournament without winning their AQ, but they belong in the top 20.

They’re the team w the great goalie and weak Offense which can pull off some wins but also lose some less stellar games.rolldodge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:43 amThey have the #19 RPI right now. 6-3 record. oddly, the Yale game might have been his most impressive,
arms flailing, legs flailing against a barrage of shots,
Matt Knote kept them in that game until it was just too too much.

Losses to good teams but by wide margins and cant score in double digits against decent teams much.rolldodge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:52 amThey don't have any "bad" losses.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:49 amThey’re the team w the great goalie and weak Offense which can pull off some wins but also lose some less stellar games.rolldodge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:43 amThey have the #19 RPI right now. 6-3 record. Yale 9-18
Boston U 6-12
Rutgers 5-11
Beat Albany 9-6, UVM 12-4, HPU 12-10 so against weaker defenses they tap out at 12 but can hold good offenses 20-30% below their average

Re: My top 25
Being more competitive in those games (although I really don't take margin of victory/loss into account) and winning one would make them a top 15 team. I wouldn't argue that they are. But they are clearly a top 25 team at the very least. I have them higher than that. They have a top 10 win. I don't discount based on calendar.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 11:44 amLosses to good teams but by wide margins and cant score in double digits against decent teams much.rolldodge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:52 amThey don't have any "bad" losses.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:49 amThey’re the team w the great goalie and weak Offense which can pull off some wins but also lose some less stellar games.rolldodge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:43 amThey have the #19 RPI right now. 6-3 record. Re: My top 25
I don't have them in my top 25. I think it was between them and Binghamton for #25, and I chose Binghamton; probably too much of my Southern Tier Homerism coming into play. But not sure it matters; either will need the AQ to make the tourney.rolldodge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 11:51 am

I'll admit to getting pretty foggy outside the top 15...

Re: My top 25
Michigan in consecutive weeks beat your #5 and lost on the road in OT to your number #10 and beat your #16 and #18. Surprising you don’t have them ranked.
Re: My top 25
And for the record I am sure you can poke holes in my rankings. Not easy!
Re: My top 25
I think Michigan deserves to be ranked more than OSU does. OSU has lost 6 of it's last 8 and, sure, they played Maryland close, losing in OT (in a game they should have won, no less), but the in other 5 of those 6 losses, all blowouts, they weren't even competitive. The Rutgers and UNC wins are nice, but all of their other wins are against sub-mediocre teams.
At 5-6 with 3 of the 5 wins coming against lower-tier schools, I hardly see how OSU is a top 20 team.
(tbf, though, Massey has them at 18 and their RPI is 16; playing a tough schedule, even when you're routinely annihilated, does have its benefits).
