Why is Hampton playing in the CAA? It’s not fair to the program, and the teams in the conference.

I do like their face off man, their goalie, and they have a solid
scoring defense man.

Forget about Hampton. They are inarguably the worst team in Division 1. But what about the rest of the CAA? It is not wrong to argue that this is the absolute worst season for the CAA since the inception of the league.

If you look at the Massey ratings for each of the teams, you will find only one team in the top 50% of Division 1 lacrosse. With so many terrible teams in D1 lacrosse, that is really saying something.

I have never seen anything like this in all the years watching CAA lacrosse. Not a single big win for any of these teams. This is all pointing to another play-in game for whichever team wins the CAA Pillow Fight (Tourney). #sad

It presents a terrific opportunity for any of these bad teams to just get into the CAA tourney and win two games.

These are legitimate points,
the CAA has taken a step back, the departure of UMass, the formation of the A-10.

You're just not going to get top 10-15 teams on your schedule with those kind of numbers, its not worth the effort for
those top 10-15 teams.
I believe the Hens are in good shape for the next few seasons in ramping up their schedule, Tigers and Nadelen still have enough cache to keep top teams on their schedule - but some of the other CAA teams, what's the point, you could just as easily swap out for an A-10 team.

As far as this year, some good teams get relegated to play in with the number of teams we're talking about competing for the NCAA field - last year, this year, next year.

It looks to me that 5 teams are a lock for the NCAAs right now, so that's 5 out of the 14 non-play-in NCAA tournament slots. And how many teams are competing for those 9 remaining non-play-in slots -- 14, 15 ?
That's a lot of competition. So, unfortunately a good, solid team or teams -- top 25 or so -- will be relegated to a play in game.

I don’t have a problem with Fairfield in the CAA.
Baxter is what, in year four - they were more competitive
last year.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen UAlbany and maybe
UMBC switching from America East.

Don’t know, really.
I suspect he has a couple more years due to the Covid years,
2020 and 2021.
All depends on what kind of recruits Baxter is bringing in,
McKenna is the one guy that stands out for Fairfield right now.
Fairfield has taken a step back, as have just about all the
CAA teams.
CAA teams are beating the MAAC teams but not the A-10 nor
America East teams with the exception of Hens beating UMBC
and Drexel beating St Joe’s, so this year the CAA is in the
bottom third of DI conferences, about par with the ASUN -
its fugly - as HenFan above makes clear.
The Hens, really, are the only team that you can argue are
on par with last year.

Fairfield plays in the MAAC Conference in other sports . Why play in CAA in lax ? Plus the MAAC seems like a better speed for them. I have no problem w them playing in the CAA. It’s just seems like common sense that they play lax in the MAAC.

Fairfield played in the MAAC in the late 90s early 2000s but then left when the MAAC was not fully funded and it wanted to be (at least those were the rumors). Now that the MAAC is supposed to be fully funded, when many of the schools are still around 8 scholarships and 2 full time coaches, pay still is not the same as other D1 schools, one would think Fairfield would play all their sports, aside from football which the MAAC does not sponsor, in the league.

Fairfield doesn't have football, so that makes it atypical for CAA. It won MAAC three straight years in late 90s then became independent and member of Great Western (with occasional Top 20 success), before landing in CAA. Field hockey plays in NEC, not MAAC, making lacrosse not the only outlier for the school. MAAC would present an easier path to post-season, but a lower ceiling for what the program might be able to achieve.
