Long Island 2023
Re: Long Island 2023
CSH 8, Huntington 7. Blue Devils hit the crossbar on a bounce shot with less than 5 seconds left. Didn't catch all of the stream but looked like a great game.
Re: Long Island 2023
Florida's St. Thomas Aquinas goes north to Massapequa (the STA coach's alma mater) and knocks them off in OT 12-11
That's a great win for a South Florida team

Mt. Sinai 9 GC 8 Final
A bit surprising, given what the Mustangs lost from last year's squad. Game was at Farmingdale State.

A "weak" Darien team? interesting to view their record at the end of the season.pcowlax wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 10:17 amThough they should never be dismissed, this is probably going to be the weakest Darien team in well over 10 years. There are some loaded classes about to come down the pipe so they will be back but if I had to guess this may not be a typical St.A-Blue Wave classic.DeepPocket wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:23 pm Gonna be a good year for lacrosse on the island.
St Anthonys, as always, has a host of outstanding matches. Darien and Stepinac coming in to visit has caught my eye.
Chaminade has Delbarton making the trip too.
Both teams will be well travelled themselves, but for those on the island where the traffic is a bigger obstacle than the water itself, it’s nice to have the chance to see these distant powers locally when they visit.

Re: Long Island 2023
I think you could see Darien end up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-10 losses this year. The senior class is the weakest they've had in probably a decade, so there will be some growing pains as they lean on younger players (there are also a couple of younger players who would have contributed that re-classed and are now at prep schools). The FCIAC also moved to a two tier structure this season, which opened up 3 more OOC slots to beef up the schedule even more.wahoomurf wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 4:02 pmA "weak" Darien team? interesting to view their record at the end of the season.pcowlax wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 10:17 amThough they should never be dismissed, this is probably going to be the weakest Darien team in well over 10 years. Not to make this about CT lacrosse so much, but is Brameier done coaching them?
Murf….I’m used to GC quickly replacing anyone they lose, since they lose great players every year. Mustangs lost the elder Spalina (The Great), and I believe 1 or 2 more of their top players. When you say GC lost a lot of people…is this a down year for GC, or was the game just early season learning experience for a young team?
Chaminade with an impressive rebound win. Wherever FlyersFan is, he should be feeling a little better

In addition to the consensus #1 recruit in the country Mt. Sinai lost:
Trepeta D Johns Hopkins
Oppenheim FO Albany
Sageder LSM Syracuse
Carretta M Georgetown
So, yes, they lost a lot, especially for a C school.

Late to the conversation (that I started) but those were great games…I think 09 was where it became less competitive and then dropped. But these things should get revisited. Also, I’m not close enough to know why they dropped St Anthony’s but I loved having those guys on the schedule, and I don’t think Manhasset has played WM once in the regular season, since the 70s. I could be wrong on that but I’m not far offLI13 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 10:20 pmCorrect. Manhasset was up 5 with about 6 minutes left and Northpodt went on a crazy run and tied it. Game winner with less than 30 seconds left. I was there (was my senior year) , left soaking wet and sad but no question it was a great game.JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 10:01 pmA real classic in 2006. Molinari scored the game-winner if I remember correctly. I'd really advocate for dropping John Jay, hasn't been a rivalry since 2008-2009 at best.LI13 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 2:50 pmWe played for four years in the mid 2000s as you probably remember. Produced 2 1 goal games (including a classic in a driving rainstorm in 2006) but we fell off pretty hard after that and it wasn't a challenge for Manhasset anymore. Would love to see the series renewed.kr522 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:32 pm Would be so much more fun to see Manhasset take on St A’s, WM, SWR or Northport instead of John Jay or Ridgefield. John Jay has never felt like a rivalry to me at least, maybe the coaches & players feel different. Pretty shocking how little Manhasset and WM have played over the past 50 years given the history of the programs

Re: Long Island 2023
It used to be a lot easier for Suffolk teams to schedule non league games when we had 4 open dates. Now we just have 2.kr522 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 10:01 amLate to the conversation (that I started) but those were great games…I think 09 was where it became less competitive and then dropped. St Anthony's appears to be done playing any non league games on Long Island. It's sad. I'd love to see it. But their schedule this year resembles Culver's more than Chaminade's.
Re: Long Island 2023
In a rematch of the Class A LIC, my Tigers won 15-6 over Port Washington. Looks like we could be pretty good again even after losing so much on offense and an elite fogo.
Re: Long Island 2023
Watching St. Anthony's right now. They're legit...

Re: Long Island 2023
The Sports Department of Newsday ranked the top 10 teams on Long Island.Like Captain Renault (Casablanca),they appear to have "rounded up the usual suspects".To wit:
St Anthony's
Manhasset- (3)
Chaminade- (5)
Shoreham-Wading- River(2)
Mount Sinai-(3)
Garden City-(1)
Massapequa-(2)
Northport-(1)
Bayport-Blue Point-(1)
Cold Spring Harbor-(1)
Newsday wrote that St.A's has 25 SENIORS[ /b] on the roster who will be playing college lacrosse. The numbers in parentheses are the number of commitments of the rremaining 9 high schools that appear on Newsday's "commitments" list.

Didn’t Massapequa just lose to some Florida team that has a couple of big losses of their own this season. They should just poll the coaches to start the season
Re: Long Island 2023
Yeah Deliberti put up big numbers but played mostly inside as a crease guy so this year will probably have to create more of his own offense if he wants to score 40 again. We saw a little of that towards the end of last year though
Re: Long Island 2023
Not sure what Newsday’s “commitments” list is but Chaminade also has 25 commits, all those others are very off too. The number of commits at St. A and Cham are indeed absurd at this point.wahoomurf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 6:26 pm The Sports Department of Newsday ranked the top 10 teams on Long Island.Like Captain Renault (Casablanca),they appear to have "rounded up the usual suspects".To wit:
