Hopkins is ranked 8th. I think people know they are good.
Yes, but I still think they are better than many people realize, regardless of their ranking.
Yes they are ranked 8th, yes they are much improved from last year. But, I am not sold yet. I may bet on Michigan with a nice upset. Hop played Navy (3 goal win), St Joes (1 goal win) and Cuse (2 goal win) a little too close for a top10 team vs non top 20 teams.

For the record Michigan is no longer a top20 team but are still receiving votes. Draft kings has +115... Typically with a #8 team and a non ranked you don't see this low of a Moneyline. I think Vegas knows they're not as good as their rank.
they are on the road and vegas is only trying to balance the betting action on both sides based on many metrics, but ultimately who bets on who at what levels... so it's equal-ish money on both sides and they scrape the vig. vegas doesn't try to assess how strong teams are. they try to assess how strong bettors feel they are.

Checks out- Rutgers is @OSU and they have very similar spreads/ML's. Thank you for the clarification. Either way though, I am not sold on Hopkins being a top 10 team IMO. Emphasis on the IMO.

For what it's worth, Hopkins is like 7-3 against the spread this year, so even if it was Vegas' job to guess how good a team really is, they're not doing a great job of evaluating the Jays.

Anyway, think Saturday night will be a close game. Mich has played Hop close recently, this one is in Ann Arbor and they prob have the better faceoff group. They'll need some guys outside of Boehm and Zawada to step up and then likely get a good performance in cage in order to pull off the marginal upset.

The truth is, I think you are far from alone with having that current opinion on Hopkins. They definitely, more often than not, have not looked like a Top 10 squad.

I personally think Michigan/Hopkins has the potential to be one of the better games of the weekend.

Unfortunately,

no gimme’s left on the schedule,
they’ll need to pull off an upset, probably two.

This is a good Michigan team.

The ball movement on Michigan’s eighth or ninth goal was impressive.

Just too many errors tonight, forced and unforced, to win.

Clearing game needs serious help, again.
This team is honestly not that far away.
Just needs to stop shooting itself in the foot.

That is true. Yes, it is a loss. And maybe if the played UVA later, the Wahoos would win by several more. Still, this was the best Michigan has played in ages, if not ever.
Michigan has wins over top ten-ranked ND and OSU in the last 5 years. They've also beat Penn, Rutgers, PSU, JHU.
The thing is, though, of those last four you mentioned, multiple ones weren't any more than mediocre at the time. Also, that Notre Dame team didn't end up having one of their best seasons. And I believe Ohio State was missing their superstar attackman.
Yes, wins are better than losses. But still, I think Michigan played better today than they did in any of those games. UVA is better than any of those past opponents, too.
Is this Maryland game through 3 quarters also the best that Michigan has ever played? For the record, I think Michigan has played just as well in some previous games, including winning against top 10 teams.

Alright, folks! I have been critical of Michigan and Conry for a time, and I said they needed to show definite improvement this season. Even if their record doesn’t show it, after today, it is beyond fair to say they have shown improvement. They beat, on the road, a tremendous Maryland team. AND, they did it without either their goalie or face-off guy having a great day!

Many congrats to Michigan and Coach Conry!

Wietfeldt is really more of a 1B than a back-up, and he's been tremendous: 10/13 against the reigning first team AA at the position.
