Chips from China ?
Biden already started the pivot away from China.

We have different views. Your consistent view is that both China and Russia are holding all the economic cards.

I completely disagree with this, and don't understand where or how you have arrived at this opinion. It makes discussion difficult.
... it makes it difficult when people don't automatically agree with you.
That’s not it. Your starting point is 1,000 miles from mine, and it leads to misunderstandings between us where we talk past each other because we’re not talking about the same thing.

Chips for Russia. The youtube prof tells about refrigerators being disassembled to get the chips.
I believe China is in worse shape than we are as it relates to “computer” chips.
...but are they in good enough shape to help Russia ?
If they’re willing to risk both trade and students in the US? Sure.

Putin called what he thought was Bidens bluff. How’s that working out for Russian interests?

Xi would have to do the same. Biden aligns with Reagan on foreign policy. I find it unlikely that Biden will keep his powder dry if Xi tests him.

Is Biden willing to sanction China if they provide Russia with microchips ? ...for their manufacturing sector, like automobile or refrigerator production ? ...or for weapons production ? How about sanctioning India ?

chips would be more difficult to marshall a sanction response with the EU participation than if weapons. Not impossible perhaps, but more difficult.

The good news is that China's chips, while better than none, are not what drives the most advanced weapon capabilities.

Here's a question for you re technical innovation:

What drove the development of solid-state memory?

I don't mind if you cheat and look it up -- at least you'll learn something about technology advancement and what drives it.

Second question: what drove development of networking speed in the 90s?

1. Cruise missile navigation

2. Correct

Know anything about chip making? EUV? DUV? ASML? TSMC? Computational lithography?

for some strange reason, responses get erased....have to log in several tymes......just weird.

anyway. Which "part" of the chip making, or, what percentage of the entire process, will be suffieciant, or are the questions for some other purpose?

you are a divider.

anyway.......can we settle for " I know enough to know that Solid State products are MADE in China " ...or, IS that classified?

yes....bounced off again.....just strange.

Dividers will see a flaw, or their perception of one, and attack. Misspelled word. wrong source. "trolling"......whatever.

a "debunked" doctor, ring a bell, to those involved with "social" media.

Not sure knowing the history, or how to build, a SSD, has do with anything.

either way, an inferior weapon (because of the inferior China chips) can KILL humans with equal distrection.

Just ask Lee Harvey O.......inferior weapons can still get the job done.

You questioned whether someone “knew” something. In order to engage in any meaningful discourse it helps to understand my interlocutors grasp of subject.

You respond defensively and attack me and cast aspersions on my intent.

That’s answer enough to my questions, I guess.

Like I wrote......you smell as if your mind was/IS made up....about most things. Maybe its me, just me.

I asked another poster, also, about why the EU would "pass" on china chip sanction....not you.

Why are YOU defensive about another poster? seems strange, you feel you have "come to Judge Smales" defense.

Now, about that California fresh water solution,.....that IS a direct question at you

He hasn't said a word about it, so I'm guessing not. The only thing Biden has threatened China about is a transfer of weapons/ammo to Russia.

Again, as I just pointed out..... The US of A is buying stuff from Russia and vice versa right now, today. I also pointed this out during Trump, if you'll recall----we can't seem to be able to decide if Russia/China is an enemy or not. We talk like they are enemies, but we trade like we're friends....and in China's case, we trade like they are our very best friends.

This, imho, needs to be fixed, and we need to pick a lane. Certainly doesn't need to be all or nothing....but there are lesser degrees of both trade and the granting of student VISAs then where we are now with China.

This was my understanding. We are involved with a company in this space. Was waiting on Chinese approval for a meaningful acquisition. Finally came through after 9 month. Increasing industry capacity. It’s a long cycle.

Chips for supercomputers ? The Yale Prof was talking about chips for manufacturing cars & refrigerators, although the Russians should be able to make both without chips for domestic consumption. I wish I could buy a new car without a computer that didn't make the yellow service engine idiot light come every time the O2 sensor sneezes. The $600 mechanic full employment light.

Yes, big difference with military precision targeting chips and obviously super computers etc.

China is likely to supply some of Russia’s general needs but the big issue would be actual military weapons. Russia is running out…
