Agreed. A lot of that stuff is fixable and I have no doubt the coaches will be locking in on that stuff.Oaklax wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 6:29 pmVery Spot on with this post! Dmids are pressuring our way too far and throwing checks instead of moving their feet and driving the O down the ally. Close Defense sometimes rely on the overhead checks and get beat with no slide from the crease.Laxguy703 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 6:19 pm Ugly and sloppy win by the Captains. They need to realize they don't have the same guys as last year on defense and can't be pressuring out/throwing crazy checks. A lot of that sloppy defensive play lead to easy goals for ST. John Fisher.
Pros:
- Outside of a couple plays where they were trying to force it, the offense played well. They ran into a hot goalkeeper and still put up 16 goals. I think if they stopped shooting low every time, they could've put up 18-20.
- Cook and Auslander combine for 10 Points and show the country why they are 2 POY candidates.
- Cabbanis dominates with another dominate performance going 22-27 and collecting 15 GB's. That kid continues to impress and is well on his way to being a 1st Team AA if he keeps it up.
- Outside of a few ill-advised shots, Pozin played well.
- Sands, the former FO guy is really coming into his own as a D-Mid.
Cons
- Defense is playing way too sloppy. They look lost at times and have given up 3-4 early offense goals in every game this year. It hasn't hurt them yet, but in a game against a good opponent like RIT, it will.
- D Mids were getting beat way too easily in the first half. Someone needs to tell #31 to move his feet and stop lunging after every dodge.
- Offense needs to settle down at times. They are too good to be throwing 25 yard skip passes into the crease 10 seconds into the shot clock. They have some of the most talented guys in the country. Settle it down and look for the best shot.
- Depth didn't look great today. 2nd line O didn't produce any points.
- Hanway did make some good saves, but still under 50% on the year. Need to see more out of a returning senior AA goalie
- Penalties. The refs were a bit soft at times, but they need to clean it up with all the careless mistakes
All in all, St. John Fisher wasn't as bad as I thought they were and looked way better than they did against Cortland. I can see them making their way back into the top 20 by the end of the year.
Still a solid win for CNU. They are missing a first line middie and a starting D-mid, didn't play their best, ran into a hot goalie, and still ended up winning comfortably. Rather have this game now than in May
Offense forced a lot of passes but still can shoot lights out and out hustle the defense to score fast.
Easy fixes, but last couple games CNU has been down early in the first 5 min. Can’t do that next week vs RIT and Dickinson.
Who were the 1st line Mid and SSDM missing? They put extended time or will be back soon?
Robby Adams is the 1st line Mid missing. He put up 30 points on the second line last year and really fits the style of offense that CNU runs. He can score from anywhere and has a real high lax IQ. I was told he will be back next month after an unfortunate injury. Aidan Wheeler is the starting D-Mid I was mentioning. He has been a real lock down guy for the captains and has been dealing with a minor injury. I was told it was more of a precautionary thing. He took 1 or 2 runs today, but the Captains quickly pulled him.
