Stand on your head, get down on a knee, use a Moto Grip, do it however you want but clamp and rake (rake being the key word there). Never again clamp, withhold the ball from play, ratchet your stick to pick the ball up in a gravity defying way (like tongs) while doing a 30 sec-1 minute crab dance. The rule changes were the right move, how 'bout we just leave the game alone now?

Maybe if the rules committee didn't change the faceoff mechanics every other year, referees would be better at officiating them.

Re: The Face Off
Isn’t the women’s faceoff different because: (1) the upright stance reduces the risk of physical contact, especially between heads, since women do not wear helmets; and (2) the young women will not be forced to stick their cute little coed butts up in the air from a crouching position?DMac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 3:38 pmNo, the women's DRAW is not stupid, the ball comes out faster and cleaner often times than it does in the men's game. I’m sure reason (1) is the main rationale for the difference.

With the reduction in contact we are there. Except, o course, that little matter of grace and finesse the boys can’t learn.bearlaxfan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 2:17 pm Go to women's-style draw? No wrestling matches, less physical damage to the players, more open movement, probably with fewer game-stalling pushing calls (although I admit I like groundball scrums).
Might hurt specialists, and the faceoff schools will howl, and then adjust.
And we get to spill digital ink about the feminization of the game/society/species and how the 'y' chromosome is dying.

Probably right on the first one, could be on the second one too.

Well, this is the sport where Quint K was once co-announcing a women’s lax game and mistakenly said “breast” instead of “best” … followed by ten long seconds of complete, awkward silence.DMac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 9:53 pmOh my, such thoughts will have you labeled a perv and told to stay back 100 yards over on the wlax side.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 8:25 pm Isn’t the women’s faceoff different because: (1) the upright stance reduces the risk of physical contact, especially between heads, since women do not wear helmets; and (2) the young women will not be forced to stick their cute little coed butts up in the air from a crouching position?

It’s also the sport where 15 years ago ESPN showed several minutes of the Hopkins women’s lacrosse team stretching on Homewood Field while an announcer was blabbering something that I cannot recall. Disgraceful ….

A little Freudian slip, albeit a perfectly understandable one.
Re: The Face Off
Understood, but I would have no problem with a rule that says after 3 infractions, FO guy is out of the game.SCLaxAttack wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 4:03 pmI'm totally against that.... You'd have to have similar rules for other skills. Once you score twice you can't shoot on goal again? Three CTs and no you're no longer allowed to check? Four ground balls per player max?youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 1:17 pmAgree completely, and the only other team sport that does that is volleyball, but at least all the players on the opposing team have a chance to change it.JustOneTime wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 11:30 am I'm looking for a solution to take the ref out of the equation. I love the face off and don't want it to go away. I just hate that a team can get the ball if a ref spots some infraction before a whistle is even blown. It hampers the game IMO.
A thought.... which adds in layers of strategy, is that a team can only use the same player to faceoff a certain amount of times per qtr/game. Or they can not take two consecutive f/o's in a row. This way nothing changes with the procedures, it just helps level the field with possession control .....I suppose until some coach finds a way to recruit all the top F/O players.

the wings are standing in the middle of the field and preventing any strait on fast break right off the face? that's a pretty significant difference.DMac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 3:38 pmNo, the women's DRAW is not stupid, the ball comes out faster and cleaner often times than it does in the men's game. love the women's games' advances over the last # of years. they can be fun to watch. too many whistles in h.s, but nc$$'s much better.

In this video they are but I've seen them shuffle around for position in anticipation of where the ball is going to come out, might even be directed by the girl taking the draw to a spot where she's going to try to direct the ball. Have seen plenty of fast breaks on the draw, a goal can be scored in seconds off the draw just as it can from the face off in mlax.
Hope you watched that Cuse-Stony Brook game last night...talk about mach speed, pin point passing, sharp crisp ball movement, outstanding stickwork and accurate shooting!! My eyeballs got tired after the first fifteen minutes of that one.
If you pull that game up you can get a good example of the shuffling and positioning going on on the very first draw.

Re: The Face Off
Quit messing with the game. It has never been more popular and the growth of the game is happening right before our eyes. As another post said,”if they quit changing the rules on the faceoffs”, maybe the Refs and fans will understand better. Leave it alone
Re: The Face Off
While we are tinkering, the women’s game has too many players on the field. It is very clogged up, would be much better with two or three less per side.DMac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 5:57 pmMeh, it's just not that big of a deal.flyerfan17 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 5:39 pmNot much worse in the game than watching the refs trying to get the ball in the right spot while lining up sticks...pleaseDMac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 3:38 pmNo, the women's DRAW is not stupid, the ball comes out faster and cleaner often times than it does in the men's game. Which is a big part of the reason I've grown to really enjoy the women's game. The stickwork is really pretty in their game, the motion of the stick, the passing, catching, and shooting is prettier in their game. Yup, the cradle...no bags with sick hold.

The faceoff in the Mens game is ruining the sport…there, I said it.

Re: The Face Off
Unless I'm missing the sarcasm here I'm surprised to hear this from you, youth. From someone who has watched the game explode for the last sixty years I just don't understand how the face off is ruining the game. From a little tiny game that many ball playing fools (my friends and I) hadn't ever seen to a game that has a world tournament for both men and women that includes hundreds of countries I don't see how much of anything is ruining the game. The face off is a very cool part of the game, IMO, the battle for who gets possession of the ball after every goal is an element that adds a little more suspense to the game, it's another battle within the battle.youthathletics wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 7:54 pm The faceoff in the Mens game is ruining the sport…there, I said it.
I think this talk about the game needing to be sped up is nonsense, the game moves plenty fast enough and there's little down time. Football needs to be sped up, there's too much down time, do away with huddles after every 5-6 seconds of play. How much down time do you get in football v actual football in a sixty minute game (that takes three hours to play)?

Re: The Face Off
My biggest issue with faceoffs is the inconsistency of the infractions. Too many times, I have seen possession awarded before the ball was even placed. What the heck. How can you have an infraction before the whistle???
