He’s over 70%, likely to dominate Albany - so, call it well over
70% heading into that Pete LaSalla must-see “faceoff” in two weeks.

He’s a finalist for sure - I’d like to see the coaches allow him
to go to goal more - his scoring is down.
The coaches aren't holding him back. Wierman has a green light. He's not seeing opportunities. Teams have really sold out on limiting transition opportunities.

He does score against that matchup (though any good attackman should...), but I haven't seen him consistently dodge or beat a long pole yet this year. Again have to rewatch the ND game, but that's something I've noticed this entire year.
Maltz is actually second on the team with assists, and with the best A/TO ratio of anyone with more than two assists. He’s assisted from a range of different positions, and had good vision to make the final pass. He had a nice pass to find Murphy against the Irish when he was at the X with his defender hung up. He was covered at the X but still found Erksa for a gimme against Richmond. Beat two guys on a dodge and found Kelly in front of goal against Syracuse. Had a really nice transition skip pass to Kelly against Princeton.

And yeah, this isn’t something we saw from him in previous years… but he seems to have improved his game.
I assume you meant this in response to me writing "pure scorer." Fair enough - it wasn't my intent to say he's one of those 50 goals, zero assist guys. Instead, really just meant the guy is one of those guys with a scoring mentality....like I honestly think every shot he takes he thinks will go in.

I like that btw. But yeah, he's definitely upped his overall game for sure this year.

Duenkel is still there, that OSU goalie.
I thought Terps might have grabbed Checo from last year’s
class.

Ah ok - thought you meant he’s only a scorer. Yeah, definitely got that scorer’s mentality, and he’s an excellent shooter.

Whittier is a playmaker! He makes things happen and has great vision. Terps are hobbling though. Geppert out, Murphy limping and Wierman doesnt look right. UVA could be our first blowout loss in several years.

Whittier and Erksa had good game. We are very young on offense
Hope Geppert is back next week. Schaller was in for him but looked like McDonald seemed to play most of the game. Good to see Till throughout the subs with 3 minutes to go..

Nice win yesterday. Hope Wierman is healthy and all ready for UVA, as he dominated Lasalla last year and that's one of two spots on the field we've got an obvious edge (goal the other.) If he wasn't seriously banged up or anything yesterday, I think actually it was a positive to have a game yesterday where they didn't win faceoffs and yet were still able to get in a rhythm and execute at a high level offensively. They're finding guys who are making a difference. Whittier has some juice. I like the way Erksa moves inside on the crease when he doesn't have the ball. The spacing has gotten a lot better from the first couple games. Much, much less compact and it's creating more shooting opportunities and the ball movement we saw last year. It's going to be a tall task next weekend but the way they've come along the last few weeks, if we continue to see growth from some of the younger dodgers, I could see it being an offense that really puts up some good performances in Big Ten play.

Defensively, if Geppert goes down that's going to make things really tough to defend against teams that are strong at the midfield. They can still hold up well with him and Trader against most teams #1 and #2 midfielders but once you pull one card out of the deck there it can collapse really quickly and while McDonald is a good player...the drop off from a guy like Geppert is steep and like we saw against Notre Dame they've had trouble defending pick games from those spots. It especially would be brutal next week. Hope he can get right.

Big Ten play is going to be a gauntlet, glad we got the good end of it this year with 3 home games and home games against Penn State and Hopkins as well.

If so, Looks like both teams have key players out but expecting a great contest with the potential for a rematch over Memorial Day weekend.

Watched a fair amount of Ohio State, and they really have no scoring options after Myers. They’ve obviously been playing top teams, but none of those games were close (Cornell dominated that game, before giving up the final three goals). Penn State looks legit. Ierlan for Cornell had a great game to keep it fairly close until the fourth quarter, but Penn State was clearly the better team. They look like a pretty complete team, and they were able to unbalance Cornell’s D pretty easily (which is no easy task).

Hard to know what to make of Hop and Rutgers just yet. At least we’ll play Hop in CP.

I think he’s referring to Cormier.

Cormier could be out. McIntosh, his replacement, shot seven goals in two games, but playing him at attack reduces the options at midfield, where the “second” midfield is Garno and/or Dickson, a starting attackman, running with a member of the first midfield. I think Cory got a run or two with the second, but for the most part it’s a four man rotation with Dickson players middie when Sunderland plays in his spot attack.
Miezan appeared to take a shot to his injured shoulder right before his goal. He hasn’t played a lot yet, but he GM has been productive. Midfield depth will be important against the Terps.
Speaking of midfield depth, the dm corps remains Sallade, Chizmar, and Zinn, with Conner getting some time on both d and o. A fourth guy would help.

Hop's defense is legit. Marcille is very good. Their offense is a lot better than last year but they still don't have a lot of 1 on 1 dodging threats. They're probably a team Maryland can handle defensively as they don't have a lot of dodging threats from the midfield aside from Collison, the big Canadian lefty who's going to be a First Team AA by the end of his career. Otherwise their main guys are Angelus who's incredibly efficient but not going to beat you 1-on-1 a lot, Melendez who could be covered by Makar or Zapitello, and Degnon who's a shooter.

Rutgers is Rutgers. They're really good everywhere, not particularly elite in one spot. Ross Scott has looked very good. Knobloch has played some great lacrosse last few weeks, he'd be a nightmare to deal with if Geppert is banged up. I think we could have some success against their defense as they've become more quick to slide this year without Kirst in net. They gave up a lot of open shots to Army that found the net that wouldn't have with Kirst and adjusted their gameplan. It's worked but I think if the offense continues to grow and move the ball better they could find some success there. But on the road that might be the toughest game.

Top to bottom the league is the deepest it's been.

Wierman looked banged up a bit against Albany. As noted Murphy limping and no #20 is very worrisome. Will need all in good form for UVA. Young offense is playing better week to week. #10 and #13 getting separation and offense moving better and spacing. Need better team shooting generally. Shorties will need to keep improving this week. And our youngster in goal will need his best game of the year. I do not expect Terps to win this time but if Luke and Ruppel have big games you never know. I know VA is really wants to lay the wood to Terps. Hopefully, our poles will do what they do and keep the scoring to 14 or less, possession advantage, clear well and see what happens.

Braden Erksa had 2 "Jay Carlson" type goals where he found himself in the right place at the right time.--a scoop up of a loose ball in front of the net and a rebound catch and shoot of a save. Hope this trend continues because over his career Jay has provided so many winning goals for the Terps and the Whipsnakes. Jay still amazes me with his quickness.

If so many of our guys are banged up would it make sense to rest them and just let the young guys scrimmage against UVA? then get ready for a Big Ten schedule? If we see UVA again then at that point it’s anyone that can walk plays…..
Just a thought……
