Re: Is gambling good for lacrosse?
Many if not all states don't allow gambling on any games involving in state college teams, they don't even list the spreads on their sites. Kids are made well aware that gambling will make them ineligible before every season

If your definition of good = bringing more eyeballs to the sport, it will be good... whether the eyeballs are there for the betting rush or for the eventual scandals.
If you look at demographics gambling is basically a regressive tax. Maybe lax betting will be different. I wouldn't bet on it.

Conversely we know gambling has not done a lot of good for the NA community on their reservations despite being used for their sovereignty the last 25-30yrs to get that casino cheddar.

Oh s**t…
But still this thread is a bit goofy. Guy watches his team get waxed and the backups want to get theirs and there’s a hint of allegation that it was in any way tied to the line. Come on. That’s ludicrous as a foundation to discuss this.
Now should lines be here or a section otherwise that’s anything but lacrosse? For admin to decide but that’s maybe the most productive aspect of this thread existing.

For example, who plays the “numbers” (lottery)?

Re: Is gambling good for lacrosse?
It's not good for anyone. My son recently graduated from college, played lacrosse. Took a group of 12 to dinner and talked with them about gambling, something I have first hand experience with - my brother is an addict. Out of 12, 8 said they gamble weekly and none, well, one guy, said they lose more than win. One guy had to asked his older brother to pay off a sizable debt. I'm not the old man shaking his fist at the clouds, but I'm fearful we are raising a generation of young people who don't see the dark side of gambling. Sports talk radio has become more about odds than stories. It's not a victimless hobby. It can, and will, effect your friends, family and future. But I fear it's too late - money is the answer to all questions.

Just let me have my fun. I get the regressive nature of gambling economically but really like the idea of a bunch of MIAA and WCAC dads and super fans losing their shirts. Let me have my mental image please!PizzaSnake wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 12:27 pmAny numbers on who bets?Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 10:06 amWealth transfer from the midatlantic to whoever the gambler geography represents!bearlaxfan wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:59 am If your definition of good = bringing more eyeballs to the sport, it will be good... whether the eyeballs are there for the betting rush or for the eventual scandals.

Seriously though I had a friend in college late 90s early 2000s, from W Mass, dad was soccer coach at Williams College, allowance of $500/week in college, somehow related to Fed Ex money. This cat would smoke and then gamble on D3 and Ivy basketball via the islands south of us. He was, a self professed, degenerate though

I have a friend who makes MILLIONS betting on college lacrosse every month. Oh, and I forgot to mention, he gives it all to charity. Just goes to show you that for every negative story, there’s a feel good story out there, too.

Sinman has been a shill for draftkings since before the season started. Or fanduel - I can't be bothered to tell them apart.
Anyway, does he have a vested interest in promoting "feelgood" gambling stories? 5'll get you 10 he does...

Re: Is gambling good for lacrosse?
I think betting on college lacrosse is a great thing. Now colleg athletes have a way of earning money by using insider information. Also the smarter kids can also make money by actually effect the outcome of spread by shaving a few points. Only good can come of this. (To any Hopkins fans out there, this post is sarcastic))
