Polls are interesting and ultimately don't mean a lot. Can someone walk me thru the thought process in this Lacrosse Magazine/Media Poll that jumps Salisbury from 7th to 2nd based on a 1 goal OT win, when everyone above them won?? If they blew Lynchburg out by 10 it would make a little more sense.

Made the change at it changed the overall rankings by exchanging Union and Salisbury. So the new Top Six is:

Why are you asking Matnum? If you have questions about uploading game scores, ask Matnum. He's a grunt. If you have questions about lacrosse and rankings, ask me. I'm the brains of this freakin' operation.

Unknown, I hesitate to answer because the rankings are based on each team's Best Three Wins and so many good teams have only played one game. For example, you guys aren't wrong to have Tufts at #3 but, with one win, I have them at #65. Amherst is just ahead of them and Williams is a little behind. Only because they only have 1 win. With this said, on Saturday, Tufts will play their third game of the 2023 season. At that point, they'll look very different in the rankings. And, with that said, I don't want to share my rankings but I will say this:

1. W&L, Dickinson, and, most certainly, Coast Guard and Endicott deserve more kudos. Similar for Ursinus and Stevens. But, again, it's early.
2. Alternatively, CNU, Tufts, Lynchburg, Wesleyan, York, Middlebury, St. Lawrence, and Amherst are too high *based on their performances in 2023*. I don't subscribe to the philosophy that you can win 1 game in 2023 and then believe you actually earned your #3 in the nation spot. No way.
3. There are several teams (Gettysburg, Union, others) that have good wins, really good wins, but their 3rd Best Win is dragging them down. I expect that this will change. And, when it does, these teams will jump up in the rankings. Make no mistake, Gettysburg is #5 in my rankings. That's only 1 below where you all have them. But after they get another quality win, they'll jump.

Let's talk in a week. Maybe sooner. Carry on, humans...

People are lazy and choose names they recognize. That and poll inertia. Not sure how else to explain some of the nonsense in that US Lacrosse mag poll.

This is the problem with computer rankings. They don’t have “eyes”. For the “eye test”. Then these computers show up in a message board and try to justify bits and bites, to fans that always know best.

I am going to use the Nick Saban approach. Who ya going to pick, head to head. On a neutral site, CNU would be favored again every team on this list, except maybe one or two, so they are not too high

I had the same questions many years ago (and most every year there after) and my conclusion was the realization that the people making the polls aren't taking the polls so seriously. In some cases, they're just having fun, in others they really don't care, etc. Strange though it may sound, us FanLax hacks take this stuff much more seriously than a lot of the "pros".
