Hobart 2023
Re: Hobart 2023
Does Hobart ever play a zone defense? It seems to me that it would slow things down.
Re: Hobart 2023
Sloppy effort for stretches, #3 team in the country will take advantage and embarrass you. Thats what they did. Its a shame, for stretches there was some decent defensive stands at times. Wasn't expecting a win but was hoping for a strong 60 min effort. That didn't happen and hasn't really happened all year so far.
I've been defending LK for a bit, defense in front of him wasn't great but you gotta mix in a few more saves. I think goalie is up in the air at this point still. Not ideal.
Last note, anyone notice that Hobart just added helmet stickers against Colgate? Not the first time equipment wasn't ready for season opener. Happened to lax in Alex Love era and not too long ago for football as well. Doesn't exactly denote a well oiled machine at the athletic department. Embarrassing optics. Perception of the team and department as a whole suffers with stuff of this nature. Someone recently brought up winning inspight of the athletic departments incompetence....

Don’t get me started on general professionalism.
Four games in and nowhere near a 60 min effort in one yet. Starting to think our S&C group is weak. Can speak to the FB program in detail and they have similar issues.

All good FFG. When Chayse is saving at 70% and CJ is lighting it up and they are winning the GB game at better than 2-1, their aren't many teams in the country that can beat that combination. Your team played hard and made it a game at halftime. Good luck against Romo this weekend.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:46 pmGood game for you guys. Chayse was solid in goal, but how many shots were high-to-high and stick side to boot? Also, never seen so many shots blocked in front, before even getting to the cage. Too much shooting flat footed. We did ride hard for several stretches with some physicality, but we're clearly not a good off-ball defensive team. Adler is a 1v1 stud, yet Anthony was able to score the one time we set a pick for him. Will need to do more of that in the future, imho. Greene looked good dodging, although it was mostly vs the shortys. Oh well, disappointing overall, but definitely some things to build on.

Impressed w considine too. Some of the younger guys looked more prepared than the upperclassmen in the part I saw (midway through third had to drop off to coach my sons lacrosse practice-on top of it hey got crunched when we scrimmaged the 7/8 team, I coach 4/5 and he got crunched trying to take on the ball carrier who decided to take the check while his teammate ran up from behind and sandwiched my son and had him on the ground not injured but done for the night-a double bummer)FMUBart wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:04 pm Chayse was solid in goal, but how many shots were high-to-high and stick side to boot? Re: Hobart 2023
FUGLY!!! That was some pretty bad lacrosse all around. The defense continually botched their coverage, leaving multiple Cornell players wide open. Ball watching galore. I won't blame Sotiropoulos for this loss. But he certainly didn't have a good game. Though it would be very tough to have a good game with multiple, uncontested shots on the doorstep. There were a few shots he obviously didn't even see. I'm still not convinced he is the right guy to be starting in goal. Cornell moved the ball well enough to absolutely confuse our D. It certainly wasn't their best effort. They did play well for about 11 minutes in Q2. and gave us a bit of hope. Now for the offense.....
It's time to make some changes, The players on the field tonight didn't get it done. They are the ones that need to execute better. That said, our defense has given up an avg. of 14.5 goals p/g. That's somewhere below 60th according NCAA stats. Cornell out GBd us 44 to 20. Those kind of stat lines usually leads up to the results we had tonight. Our new D coordinator needs to come up with better sets. Right now, his sets aren't working. Robert Morris is next, They're giving up only 5 gpg.
What happened to our offense??..... What happened to moving the ball for a better shot.in the 1st qtr our possessions lasted than 20 seconds. It seemed that the moment someone with the ball was above gle, no matter the angle, took the shot. Cornell's goalie made some nice saves. Our offense made him look like an AA. High to high shots with not much velocity, no changing of levels... Just poor shooting overall. The one positive on offense was John Jude Considine I get the weather at Colgate affected how they play. Tonight, simple passes were dropped. Shooting was sad. A friend who's son played for Hobart in the mid 2000s watched and asked "don't these guys know how or where to shoot?" Starting attack and midfield lines need to be changed. We have 3 attackman who have shoot first tendencies. We are lacking an X attackman who can distribute. We supposedly have one, I just haven't seen much distribution. The 1st midfield line needs addition by subtraction. If Bach isn't going to do anything put run with the ball and dump it off, he needs to be moved to SSDM full time. Move Peterkin to the 1st line. Herlihy just has to stop forcing his shots. If he's still hurting, use him as a decoy.
Faceoffs are OK. Adam Shea is obviously hurting. Yet he still puts up a solid performance. Schofield is still getting use to D I opponents being faster, more skilled and stronger than he was use too. He'll get there. It seems like Shafer is out for an extended period, if not the season. Too bad as he has had success and gave Shea a break.
This game was basically over by the start of Q4, realistically even earlier. We need to lengthen the bench. This was a perfect opportunity to give the reserves some real game experience. Why the coaches don't run them in these situations is a head scratcher. You can't get better without experience.
Onto to Bobby Mo.

Re: Hobart 2023
I think this is good analysis. Cornell has a better team, but to lose by this many can’t be seen as a positive in any sense, in my opinion. I actually didn’t see many positives at all. This is a good roster Hobart has, they should make some impressive plays every game. The goals they scored today were all off of individual efforts. There’s a concept of “sustainable success” and to achieve that, you have to play collective lacrosse or else teams will scout you out. I really believe in Brundage’s offensive philosophy. But today, I didn’t think it was run at all and guys took matters into their own hands once we got down a few. It looked like summer showcase style offense. Bach is so passive, and he could actually potentially be a menancing cover for opposing defenders. John Jude could be such a good player and we need more guys like him initiating the offense by beating their primary defender.oldbartman wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:44 pm FUGLY!!! Re: Hobart 2023
Keep the defense simple.... zone. Everyone has a sector to defend like in extra man situations.
Re: Hobart 2023
Zone may be a good idea as we don't seem to matchup very well when playing man to man. The one positive was the ride, Hobart rode hard and created opportunities but didn't cash in...

Narrative fallacy type thinking is not uncommon for all of us??? I don’t have a good answer to your question other than “it worked really well in my experience with it so it has to work here” thinking.

Another 24 commitment for those who like to keep track of that but not to take away from the current season. Looks like he played D w Wilson in NJ. Interesting to have Comelia and Faiola and Wilson and this kid. Wonder if that’s strategic or random circumstance.

I actually thought for a second they were actually in a zone. Left someone completly open on the lower left. If they were not then I have no idea what type of slide package they were/weren't running at the time.

nah..never mind. I just found some highlights on youtube and one of the points I thought they may have been in a zone they were not........my bad.
