Now that the first 5 games are done, what does everyone think about the outlook for the season? 3-2 is not ideal at this juncture when many thought the team would be 4-1 or 5-0. What changes should be made? Does the team need more time to gel together? Any bright spots or disappointments so far?
Fire Amplo, with a team like this you have no excuses at all what so ever. You have Skalniak and Swanson, arguably the best midfield duo in all of college lacrosse and their stats should be better than what they are. Lastly having arguably the quickest and most athletic attackman in the country and he only have 16 points in 5 games as well as 0 against Manhattan, cmon now that is ridiculous. Having all this talent you should be winning way more.
Skalniak shooting percentage is .171, same with #24.
Swanson is even worse at .158.
Tolker is the best player on the field, full stop. His SH% is damned 3x of the above mentioned. He even rides like he cares and was shoved on the crease to play a new role this year.
Nothing against 9 or 24, but sitting 6 b/c of 24, adding in 9 and bumping 10 inside...I believe they screwed up the mojo, and the chemistry just ain't working, (yet). Seems they so wanted, or expected 24 to save the day. And maybe that will still happen...might be the early stages of the Ewing Effect setting in. Where are the skip passes.....are they allowed to throw them? Where are the picks/slips and screens with high motion....are we not able to run them...Army sure can which means is our defense getting these looks?
The quickest and most athletic.....cmon man, if that where the case we'd be riding like a banshee. But maybe that is your point, we are barely riding at all. Based on stats, our scoring is ranked 12th in under 30 seconds of possession, then we drop to 62nd between 30-60 seconds. That can be interpreted a few ways. It may mean we are schemes are poo, our guys are not executing what is taught, we can't win a 1v1 match, we are easy to scout and shutdown, maybe we are using the clock because we do not dominate at FO, maybe we dont trust our defense so we want to slow things down. You are right....something is amiss.
What matters most is PL play, which starts this weekend. If we do not see anything different that they have been saving up for, it could very well be a short season.
