If Hopkins is a good team they'll make the tournament with that schedule.
correct. this unc team beats a lot of Hopkins teams the last decade 15-8 or so. Offense needs to turn it up. The schedule stuff is ridiculous. You don't learn anything playing 40 mt st marys or whatever. A lot to be pleased with here defensively, in goal, the ssdm and lsm depth. Just need more consistent faceoffs and scoring.
Just no legs in the second half. Couldn't do anything. They were moving in slow motion. Disappointing considering how good they looked early.
Defense played well, all things considered. They were under a ton of stress in the second half due to offensive ineffectiveness. The EMO is rough.
Time for Collison to move up to the 1st midfield and get more run. He's ready.
Very frustrating, but this loss doesn't feel like a sky-is-falling loss, as was the case in prior years. Competitive early-season game in which the other team had more gas in the tank. We made it pretty easy on them, but UNC's defense is improved. They certainly looked more organized on the interior than Georgetown's did.

UNC adjusting on O, JHU not adjusting on D.
Didnt watch the Georgetown game....but how did JHU beat them. Hard to believe same team. Begs the question why would you schedule UNC 3 days after playing G'town??
The scheduling is stupid. Absolutely stupid.

it wouldn’t be if they were winning.
That’s a nonsensical statement. Some of us thought this schedule was crazy as soon as it was announced. Because it is indeed a crazy schedule.
If you want to schedule a Tuesday game between GT and Loyola, do you really want North Carolina in there?
Blue Jays got run off the field in the second half.
Now Hopkins has to face Loyola on short rest.
North Carolina and Loyola are two of the best riding teams in college lacrosse. Any sane person knows you have to run hard against both teams. And you schedule them both within a week after playing GT?
That’s pretty stupid.
Playing three games in 8 days can be done, but one has to be practical about the teams you schedule.
This loss was accomplished when the contract was signed back last fall. Makes literally no sense to schedule this on Tuesday after playing a top team on Saturday. We can make fun of QK all we want buy his 4th qtr talk this can basically be summed up as "this was stupid decision by PM"
Offense looked awful. 7 goals was bad (really 6 because goalie goal) EMO was a travesty. Ball was not spinning and to get that shot up 2 men was bad. So far not a big fan of Crawleys offense.(as I said I didn't see the other 2 games but wasn't that impressed but the fact it was less than e days after a game could impact it.

Blue Jays played excellent defense for much of the game. They just played too much of it.
Hopkins can play with anyone … but the 5-0 fourth quarter shows why you don’t schedule GT, UNC, and Loyola for an 8-day stretch.
I liked North Carolina’s physical play inside on D. Unless the refs are calling the penalties close, why keep shoveling the ball inside to a covered man whom you know is going to get slammed by the North Carolina D? We have outside shooters now (Melendez, Grimes, Collison). Set plays to get them open.

the looks were there, the kids didn't finish that has nothing to do with legs or the opponent.

and pay the groundskeeping bill.
Please … scheduling GT, UNC, and Loyola … three ranked teams … in 8 days is nuts.
But then you schedule three other currently ranked teams (St. Joe’s, Virginia, SU) in another 8-day period?
Even Petro, who arranged for some pretty tough schedules in his day, never put together a schedule like this.
The 2023 Blue Jays are a pretty good team. I think they have earned a top-ten ranking. Credit the young men and their coaches. But even a top-ten caliber team can have a losing record with this schedule.
Good luck to the Blue Jays against Loyola. Do yourselves a favor … don’t f*ck in’ work out tonight.
Only played 22 people tonight. 3 attackmen, 6 offensive middies, 4 SSDMs, 3 defensemen, 2 FOGOs (Callahan only took a single draw), 2 LSMs, 1 goalie, 1 "wing specialist" (Hawley). Just about the bare minimum. THAT, to me, is more frustrating than the scheduling. It's a short turnaround, fine. Play a few more guys.
By the way, it was either play UNC tonight or never. The ACC schedule threw a wrench in all of their teams' non-conference games. That's why UVA is midweek too. Had we gotten rid of this game, the same people criticizing the schedule now would be criticizing it had we dropped UNC instead. It's annoying but I'd rather keep the game.
But on short rest after a physically and emotionally taxing game vs. Georgetown, we needed to go deeper into the bench tonight. Yes several guys are banged up (Narewski, Szuluk, Deans, Evans, McDermott, etc.) but pretty sure English and Marquis were both dressed. Throw one of them out there and get him matched up on a shortie, see what happens.

So is lifting after a game when you have a Tuesday game coming up. Totally asinine
Would respectfully direct your good question to Coach Milliman.
Wait to you hear about the Final Four, where you have to play for all the marbles on two day's rest....or to help with the math, 3 games in 9 days. Against the best teams in D1.
Seem to remember Hopkins players faring quite well with the 3 games in 9 days format.

This may have been a case of Quint just talking to say something. I find it hard to believe any trainer would have a team lifting after playing a game. Stretching and maybe some sort of very light exercise to help cool down I can see.

Could have substituted Towson or UMBC for North Carolina.
Virginia and Syracuse within four days of each other?
I’m sure the team wants to play Virginia, North Carolina, and Syracuse.
But there is a reason SEC football teams are sometimes criticized for their weak non-conference schedule … even a great team could use a break or two. A coach should be realistic and set the team up for success.
I recall Harrison being quoted during the 2005 season saying the seniors asked Petro to ease up on some of the practices. I think the Blue Jays had a 12-game schedule. Saving some gas for May isn’t a bad idea.
They knew what the schedule was and it's the one that alumni expect of Hopkins and players expect to play. National television, historic venue, and for about 38 minutes this was a 3-0 top 5 national team.
They have some offensive things to fix. But overall this is one of the strongest starts the program has had going back to 2005. I've forgotten but maybe 2011 or 2012.

how dare you . Quint even said the same thing in the early portion of the game. And how in the hell did anyone know Loyola would beat UMD after a crappy 22’ season.
Hopfan16 makes a valuable argument. Scheduling teams is tough, especially with conference games locked in. You often take what you can get, and it is often a 2-year deal.
I think it’s the bands fault, when the players don’t hear them after goals, it creates stress on the field and the play tighter.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

You missed the most important difference here.
In the Final Four, both final teams play a strong opponent on Saturday and then both teams play for the title on Monday. The conditions are similar for both teams.
Here, you have North Carolina blowing out Mercer on a Friday, and then enjoying an extra day of rest.
Hopkins played GT on Saturday in a close game, and then played North Carolina on one less day of rest.
Hopkins was the home team, but North Carolina traveled north two days early to be more rested on game day.

And fix the field.
Most of the alumni played in a different era. Hopkins usually played a shorter schedule with a week in between most games. Blue Jays did not belong to a conference and had more flexibility in their schedule. Their top opponents also had more flexibility in their schedules. None of them ever started a season on the road on February 4.
Do agree this Hopkins team looks almost in mid-season form. Best shape the team has been in since about 2018.

No, you're not getting it. The weekend we usually play UNC wasn't an option. The Heels have to play Syracuse that weekend now, the first of two meetings as part of the ACC's pestilent new scheduling system. That's why we had to go find a new opponent for that weekend (Utah), otherwise we wouldn't be playing anyone Feb. 25. The question was whether or not to schedule UNC midweek instead — really the only option if you want to keep the game — or to drop the game altogether. If they dropped the game, they wouldn't have substituted a different team in. They would have just played 14 games instead of 15 with no game today.

That's what it sounded like to me. It is extremely common for competitive D1 athletes to continue moving/light work following a game. Ever go into a professional locker room/facility after a contest? Lots of guys on stationary bikes. This is a nothingburger.

The hop forum never disappoints, if they had won tonight we would be hearing they should move to number one. Now it’s a huge scheduling mistake, you guys are the best.
