Jays are tied for 6th in the IL media poll. That's even a bit higher than I'd have them, but perhaps there's some overcompensation there from the voters who underrated them headed into the season and now don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Wasn't that long ago that a recent poster in this thread said the only way Hopkins would ever get back into the top 10 was to drop down to D3.

Is it still too early in the season to consider today's contest a litmus test for Hopkins? BTW weather shouldn't be a factor with weather in the mid 50's a no rain.

While I don't remember the game that well - looking at the stats from last year's game it is again easy to see what has to be fixed. Heels had 48 shots 35 shots on goal netting 15 - ahem - that means stumblebum had 20 saves BTW - the only reason one would think the game would look to the casual observer to be somewhat competitive. Possessions fueled by a 2-1 advantage in face-offs. While one might think Tucci's departure helps - Tyervar was 7-9 against Hopkins and was 70% against Mercer so you can't count on a big rebound - last year was apparently bad enough we felt compelled to try Scott Smith for 3 face-offs. Absolute must to even out possessions and eliminate the shot and shot on goal disparity - otherwise put a needle in the early season bubble.

The problem with a killer schedule is that you have to get up for every game, while the opponent is always up for you.
Every team wants to beat Hop.
On the other hand, success breeds confidence.
UNC has had our number at Homewood while Loyola has had our number at Ridley.
Huge week for the Jays. What's encouraging is that some of the younger players like Phillips and Collison are scoring from the second midfield. That bodes well moving forward.
The entire offense seems night and day from last year. Crawley and Kelly have made an impact there.
Hope the Jays can bear down and bring that same emotion they had last Saturday to the next two games.

UNC is a much bigger team on paper than Georgetown and Jacksonville. The fellas are going to feel it today. I'm curious if we get more liberal rotations as well w/the 3 games in a week. Quint's already mentioned about 6 times that unc bussed in sunday.
faceoff highlights gtown. Notably Reilly did not score off draws this time and last year 4-5 of the hop wins were gtown violations. Dunn or Callahan also drew the only penalty last weekend. It also looked like Smith was on the wing a lot on faceoffs last weekend.

Obviously FO’s matter, but sometimes we can make too much of them. Last week Maryland’s Weirman won like 85% against Loyola, yet Loyola won the game by a fairly wide margin.

It also looked like Smith was on the wing a lot on faceoffs last weekend.

He and Mazzone split time on the wings this weekend, right now we basically have Carson Brown or whoever is the extra pole in the rotation slot down at defense. Mazzone or Smith bump up to play wing and if it ends up on the offensive end of the field the extra pole/"LSM" subs off.

Agree - it CAN be a misleading stat - but it CAN of course also make a difference. If you only turn the ball over 1 more time than your opponent - have the same clear rate - pretty equal in ground balls - 33-31 and your goalie makes 20 saves where are the opponents possessions coming from that they outshoot you almost 2-1 and put 35 shots on goal? Well one answer is that probably several saves Kirson made went out of bounds and Carolina retained possession but the only significant possession differential throughout the whole game was face-offs.
