Last 2 observations on game 2....never seen a ball like Mullane's nice quick-stick backspin off the back off the
last centimeter of the goal line, without hitting the crossbar. Not our day. Also encouraging to see Mullane look like a scoring option going forward.
In the end, Loyola deserved the win. Great defense and smart offense. They earned it. Hopefully Terps learn and get better.
Maryland 2023
Re: Maryland 2023
He was, but that tone of coverage was only taken very, very late as opposed to before when it was much more adversarial or painting him as some sort of “weak link”, which he had never given any indication or performances to assume him as.random observer wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 4:46 pmWhile your point about Rahill is true, it is also fair to say that when you look at that 2022 Terp defense -- which really presented only bad options in regards to who to attack -- he was probably the "weak" link where you might think you have a better chance of drawing a slide relative to Makar, Zapitello, and all of those incredible shorties. Thankfully for the Terps, that potential success rate was still very low, and Rahill more than held his own when challenged.jrn19 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 2:56 pm Geppert is maybe the best LSM in the country. You don’t take a pole out of his hands to move him to shorty. Close maybe, but a big part of his success is what he does off the ground and in transition and those skills are far more accentuated at LSM than close defense
Burlace had a tough game, but where he struggled noticeably was in showing but not going on a couple of slides, which left shooters wide open. That’s something you can fix through tape and practice and more game time. He did get beat once that I remember, which is going to happen. Contrary to the rather crazy amount of discussion about him relative to his role last year (shout-out a certain ESPN commentator) most teams #3 close defenseman are nowhere near as good as Matt Rahill was last year

Definitely have to give credit to the Hounds. They were really well prepared on D, and executed. They also had a sound game plan on how to attack the Terps D, and executed it as well as anyone since Memorial Day 2021.keno in reno wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 5:43 pm Last 2 observations on game 2....never seen a ball like Mullane's nice quick-stick backspin off the back off the

Re: Maryland 2023
The keys to a team pulling off an upset are always great goaltending, great shooting, and stealing possessions/goals.
Loyola got 70% goaltending, shot 46%, and while Wierman was 18-22 or so, Maryland turned it over 20+ times. That turned what could have been a +14 or so possession game for Maryland to +7. Basically just the perfect recipe. Lot of credit to them
Hopefully being back at home settles things down, they get off to a good start, Wierman should have another strong day, and they get back into a good flow before a big stretch with Princeton and Notre Dame.

Re: Maryland 2023
Just finished the replay. Always love to see a team dominating face-offs lose. I had assumed last year’s Maryland team had a deeper bench. Wrong. They need to find some offense, especially at the most important position, quickly. Cuse coming to town.

who said they were scheduling issues or i had any problem with it?BlueJaySince1947 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 9:24 amThe Blue Jay haters are everywhere.wgdsr wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 11:15 pmthe 12 game nazis are back.genghiskhanbluejay wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 6:30 pm Hilarious that you pompous bitches only scheduled 12 games, hope you don't get in.

I'll bite. What the heck are you talking about.
Re: Maryland 2023
They had the Tewaaraton winner, 4 50+ point scorers, 6 with 40+, 10 offensive players with 15+ points, they had 4 short stick defensive midfielders who went to the PLL, they ran 3 LSM who had starting experience at major programs, they had 3 close defenseman who got All-American honors.
Not sure exactly how much deeper you would like a team to be
Re: Maryland 2023
I assumed that as good as they were last year that sonebof tgd backups were really good but couldn’t get on the field. That is the case with SEC football teams like Georgia abd Alabama. My comment simply reflects that the drop off from last year’s starters to this year’s team was bigger than I had expected.

Wow I can’t believe Maryland didn’t think of that before. Thank goodness they lost on Saturday so John Tillman finally realized that you can’t rely on just winning faceoffs to win games.10stone5 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 7:40 pmHe’s saying you just can’t fall back on dominating on

Honestly the planets really lined up for the 22’ team (Covid & heartbreak in 21’). With the increased popularity of lax and more and more schools sponsoring teams I doubt we will see another team that dominate/amazing again in college lacrosse.
Re: Maryland 2023
I thought Maryland returned more offensive threats. Sometimes on really good teams there are excellent players sitting in the bench. For example, I wasn’t surprised to see Kelly, who sat for two years, pump in four goals.
As for the face-off comment, I don’t think I’m the only observer who is glad to see that a dominant performance by a specialist doesn’t guarantee a victory
As for the most important position, I guess it’s just a coincidence that so many players who have won the T have been attackmen.

It wasn’t supposed to happen again. 2006 UVA was supposed to be the last one. An amazing, amazing accomplishment of coaching, recruiting, schematic advancement, player commitment, buy-in, unbelievable talent, just the whole package. Glad we were there to see it.Bmk2222 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 8:05 pmjrn19 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 7:28 pmThey had the Tewaaraton winner, 4 50+ point scorers, 6 with 40+, 10 offensive players with 15+ points, they had 4 short stick defensive midfielders who went to the PLL, they ran 3 LSM who had starting experience at major programs, they had 3 close defenseman who got All-American honors.
