Turkey For Me, Turkey For You, Turkey in My Big Brown Shoe

Post by NattyBohChamps04 »

Horrific stuff coming out of Turkey (& Syria). ~20,000 dead so far and increasing rapidly.

Then on top of it you have a wannabe dictator / strongman who stole billions from Turkey's earthquake emergency fund, then shut down social media in the country when it was one of the key ways of finding survivors and coordinating rescue attempts.

Have only visited once, but my heart breaks for these people. Used to be such a shining beacon in the region.

NATO stuff also borked.

All politics should be put on the back burner. Such a devastating event means getting help from wherever you can get it. That window of opportunity has likely passed. That well worn phrase comes to mind... it is no longer a rescue mission and has turned into a recovery operation. Goodness knows how many souls are still buried in the rubble.

I'm watching the rescue efforts right now. There are people from the USA have showed up with their rescue dog. The dog is so well trained it can sense someone living in the rubble.

We can walk and chew gum. "Politics" has lead to the deaths of thousands of Turks and counting. And is actively hindering the rescue and recovery process as well.
