Yes, we all know that. But doing what you did begs one to ask the question: Who cares?

Why? Your ranking is of no interest after one day of the season.
I do.
Me, too.

Why am I not surprised?
Lindenwood should be relegated back to d2 after their performance. Troll behavior putting them in top 25, i dont care what your metrics are

It's a bit humorous watching posters get all twisted up about an explicitly mathematical and quite temporary ranking, confusing such with a subjective prediction of outcome of an entire season yet to be played.

They are obviously not the same...and have totally different purposes.

We have repeatedly discussed, throughout each season, the inherent advantages and disadvantages of mathematically based rankings (and sometimes tournament selections) versus "eye-test" subjective assessments, or some hybrid methodology that is even less transparent.

I don't know for sure what Matnum's intent was with this thread, but seems to me he's kicking off those discussions early, with an ongoing opportunity to update these 'rankings' as more and more games get played and the season develops.

Here's a 'prediction': They'll change...a lot.

Only 24 teams have played thus far. *Every* team that's played thus far will be in the Top 24/25. That's not troll behavior...

only thing i'd suggest is a thread title edit -- like adding "the matnum poll".

Not a good opening week for the 'newblood' teams. The dinosaurs aren't just going to roll over, are they?😁👍🏻

First, yes, they will change a lot. With that said...

I love this ranking. :) That there are people who are so bent out of shape about it, to each their own. For some, they hate anything but an eye test. (And, FWIW, the eye tests tend to be extraordinarily similar, across the board.) For others, I can say with surety, they don't understand the rankings. Either way, I love it. I'm not sure when, 5 years ago, might be more, seven, whatever, I started playing with creating a ranking system that made sense to me. Did it all on Excel. My furst system was, If A beats B and B beats C, the ranking should be A, B, C. Then, if C beats A, it should be a three way tie of ABC. (I don't like scores being a factor in rankings. Just Ws and Ls. That's a different discussion.) Anyway, for years, I played with different logic patterns and... it was fun for me. Again, to each their own. Eventually I created a system that I liked and. more than this, it made sense. It was fair. (I think it's safe to say, an eye test is not "fair".) So I replaced the Excel spreadsheet with a digital back-end system and... That's where I am today. I have a more detailed description here but the gist of the system, once teams piece together more games (MD, as you spoke to), is that teams are judged based on their 3 Best Wins and 3 Worst Losses. There are million questions like, Why 3? How are Best ranked? How...? etc. but that's the gist. You can see more by looking at the link created previously. Bottomline, this ranking is objective and, more importantly, at least to me, fair. Personally, I genuinely believe that all rankings should be based on this system. Obviously I'm prejudiced because I built this stupid thing but... I built it slowly over many years with lots of thought and my thinking was not superficial nor was it with an agenda and... Whatever, I love this ranking. :) As you're saying, after one game, the rankings are substantially less meaningful than after 5, 6 or whatever games but, whatever. After 1 game, it's still meaningful. It shows, after one game, who has proven the most, who has proven the least. And, for the UVAs of the world, who has proven absolutely nothing.

My original thought was that this thread would be for all rankings but, thus far, I agree. It's been pretty me centered. :)

I would think it's #1 MD, #2 Gtown, #3 UVA since MD had the most impressive win over a very good Richmond team that many including me thought would challenge MD. It's looking like no drop off from last season for the Terps.

Although,
pick your order,
but I’d say Quint has the correct 1-6, OSU with Myers will
challenge Rutgers for number two and is step ahead of the
other ACCs and Ivies.

It's all fun and games this early, but Gtown has been a consensus top 5 for the last few years but has had, shall we say... unfortunate results in the Big Dance, so no, not #1 no way no how.

Georgetown was only top five last year, for the first time in decades.

I also would not have them at #1, especially after seeing what Maryland did to Richmond last weekend. But it’s fun to see a different take on things once in a while, especially this early in season.
