Syracuse 2023

Post by stupefied »

Time to rumble . Projecting Cuse to go 10-5 which is going to surprise many. Preseason hm AA goalie Marks along with strengthened group of ssdms is going to make a significant difference The wondrous Hiltz returns, Spallina is the real deal and transfer Simmons is quite underrated . . Schedule is not as taxing as 2022. The games that will make or break won't be against the top ten but against Hopkins and two games against a below average UNC team . Expecting a opening win over a Vermont team that has lost several of their best players . Time to rumble.

Projecting similarly. 9-6 with some close ones. Losses to MD, ND, PU, UVA, and Duke x2.

Thinking Syracuse wins this weekend; 18-8.

Do you think Cuse is REALLY going to prove this year that two of the reasons for last year's struggles were:

1. Gait introducing a new system.
2. Gait inheriting a program not in nearly as good of shape as it seemed?

I don't really make predictions, but it would not shock me if this game is close. Vermont has some good players still, even though they lost some very good ones. I'm guessing Vermont will be able to score quite a few goals.

Yes, Will Mark is his name. Take it to the bank

I'm high on Mark having seen him play enough in the NEC but that alone isn't enough. Combined with other changes I think they'll be greatly improved but not just because of him.
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

I don't disagree. Vermont should have the ball plenty as they return a very good FOGO in Tommy Burke. Syracuse has a lot of questions at that position. I'm not even sure who is starting for the Orange at that spot. I think the Orange win but wouldn't surprise me if it's a two or three goal game.

Does any Vermont fan know where Levandowski is? Wasn't on the roster...would be a big loss to their first midfield...

Would be hard for him to be much of a loss to their first midfield when he scored a whopping 0 goals a year ago

Levandowski -
Those IMG guys,
their reputations precede them,

he’s a Florida kid, so maybe he lands at Jacksonville or
Tampa, maybe Florida Tech.

Better win some draws or the new talent on offense won’t have many opportunities

Meh (although I'm interested in seeing what the FOGO situation looks like), many other ways to gain possession.

You have to take into account that half those goals were on man up.

I think Mark is solid but in 4 games v St. Joe’s in 21/22 SJU scored 14/19/14/11. He feasted on v NEC teams that were offensively challenged. Just my 0.02

In 2021 Will Mark had D 2 kids playing in front of him and in 2022 St Joes avg 16 goals a game. Regular season game was scrappy with 2 LIU players getting suspended and St Joes threw 1 or 2 empty net goals in under a minute left then in NEC tournament they held them to 11 so I wouldn't look to much into those St Joes games and judge Will Mark from them.

Lax Ref has a stat called excess saves, basically how many saves is a goalie making above what the replacement level or average goalie would make; how many goals are they stealing if you will. Mark is in the 87th percentile of goalies for his career. That's pretty excellent. Now what the curve will be in a new league with a much higher standard of competition who could say, but there's reason for optimism there.

Now face-offs, they could be in for a long year there
