I'd indeed agree with that. The Orfling wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 2:23 pmMDLaxFan76 may have the best insight on this but last year was as strong a year for goaltending across the Ivies as I can recall at least in recent memory — having such good goaltending across the board played a big part in the league’s out of conference success. It’s telling that two players — Mullin of Harvard and Hincks of Dartmouth — who were not even the 1st team all-Ivy goalie last year — were welcomed as transfers to compete for the starting job at two top 20 programs (Rutgers and Georgetown). As noted previously, the other two graduating goalies, Peters and Burkinshaw, were both at 55% or better. And the three returning primary starting goalies — Theriault at Brown, Ierlan at Cornell, and Paquette at Yale — are all strong performers. Four new starters at that important slot will be a major determinant in league finishing order, out of conference success, and ultimately tournament bids.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:16 amstatistically, a safe bet.FannOLax wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 9:14 amLast year was definitely an anomaly, when Ivy teams did ridiculously well OOC. Princeton beat highly ranked Georgetown and Rutgers, and got into the NCAA dance without making the IL tourney; I can imagine that happening again, but I suspect the NCAA will let in fewer than last year's 6 Ivy teams this go-around.Laxbuck wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 8:40 am Would think it will be critical to make the IL tourney this year. Doubt the remaining 3 will get an at large bid. Yale/Cornell/Princeton/Penn pretty heavy favorites to finish in the top 4, but that’s why they play the games. Harvard could certainly bump 1 of them out.

I know I am a homer, but no love for UPenn? Defending conference champs? They have a ton of pieces back, added some depth and are battle tested. If the coaching staff can manage the roster and get some younger guys developed early in the season, I think UPenn is dangerous again. Although I actually think Murph likes being ignored or not thought of as an elite program,

murphy definitely knows how to schedule ooc, and though st joe's was the only tournament team they beat ooc, the sos puts them right in the mix with some w's no matter what.
it's always a new year, but their last final four was ages ago. gotta break the ice. very good program right now.

Penn is on a lot of top 10 lists, deservedly so, and they've got a ton of talent on the roster starting but not limited to Handley (for example: Gergar, Furey, Bond, Farrare, Shipley, Smith). I'd say the reasons they aren't necessarily picked to win the Ivy League are the question marks at the specialist positions with the graduation of the "55 percenters" of FOGO Jamie Zusi (55% FO win percentage) and goalie Patrick Burkinshaw (55% save percentage). Given the pretty high level of talent in the Ivy League, I think people will want to see how a new FOGO and a new goalie shape up for Penn. But if they can plug in good replacements, Penn could easily top the Ivy again.Stiffler wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:01 am I know I am a homer, but no love for UPenn? Defending conference champs? Don’t bring the hex down on Penn. We’ll get a look at the teams pretty soon. What’s the full scrimmage schedule? Not every team lists their scrimmages on their schedules. I couldn’t find anything for Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton or Penn, hopefully people can fill in the blanks (and provide some color if they attend).

Once again, doesn't matter where you finish as long as you're in the top 4. Let's bust our @$$ and wear ourselves out just so we get to wear white!
Yes, let's honor the school that doesn't have a men's team and is taking no actions to form a men's team.
I can understand this since it was soooo successful previously.

Re: Ivy League 2023
Well, I'd say that it's less bad than having it at Hofstra, which was the plan for 2020. Yes, it is a neutral site, which seems to take away the incentive to finish first regular-season and host the tourney; but then, last year Brown hosted and was knocked out in the semi's. You could also say it might favor Yale and Princeton as the two Ivy schools nearest to NYC; but then, Cornell and Penn have on the two ILTs played at Columbia's football stadium at the northernmost tip of Manhattan. NYC is a big, showcase city: the bright lights of Broadway, Madison Square Garden and all that. Does anyone think that this has any chance of nudging Columbia U closer to adding a varsity men's lacrosse program?ICGrad wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 3:39 pmYuckOx77 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 2:26 pm ILT (men) at Columbia May 5 and 7

Re: Ivy League 2023
I mean no, not really.
I guess I see the sense in hosting it at a centralized neutral site, though I like the idea of giving it to the champ or even rotating it more. I can certainly see why giving it to the champ creates logistical issues; schools have to block off that weekend just in case, some schools/areas have fewer accommodations than others, and like you said the risk of the host school getting bumped in round 1 and lessening the impact of the championship game. And I'm sure it can be challenging to pull hosting together on less than a week's notice.
But it's always kind of rubbed me the wrong way that the one Ivy that doesn't sponsor lacrosse gets to host the ILT.
End of the day, kind of a minor thing, but it's always kind of bugged me.

Harvard gets one vote to win the Ivy, while Yale gets none. Cornell picked for first, followed by Princeton, Yale. Penn, Harvard, Brown and Dartmouth.

Yeah, pretty poor press release to not mention who is doing the voting.
