So smooth, so good, so steady, one of the absolute best LSMs ever. Played a huge role in gaining possession of the ball (stripped the player in possession) in regulation giving Cuse a chance to tie the game and then go on to win it in OT in the '09 NC game.
"Junior Year (2010): Became the first defensive specialist to win the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin Jr. Award as the nation’s most outstanding midfielder… Tewaaraton Award finalist …"
I think he changed the ssdm position forever. He was dangerous all over the field. I agree with all your adjectives. Watched him play from frosh in hs through professional career. one of my all time favorites

Sorry to hear this.
I can personally relate.
My wife took a terrible spill, fractured her C1-C2 vertebrae.
Just blind luck, not full fractures but rather stress fractures.
She was up and walking normal within a few months.
Hope for the best.

Spallina will represent #22 well on and off field.
Re: Syracuse 2022
Forecast for the Cuse for 4 February,
high of 12 which hits right around gametime.
I love it when people b*itch about the Dome.

Re: Syracuse 2022
The addition of a very competent G in Marks and the return of superb Hiltz will make HUGE differences for Cuse.
Re: Syracuse 2022
Agree with that, certainly hopeful of it anyway. Thinking the ball will move more than we've seen with the way too much 1 v 1 my eyes are on the goal pretty much only type O we've seen from the Cuse for too long now. Looking forward to the 4th....revised forecast, might shoot way up to 21 at game time.
Re: Syracuse 2022
Ball should definitely move better with Hiltz and Spallina heading . Expect a bounce beyond .500 helped by a softer schedule. Play a weaker UNC and Duke twice instead of UVA and ND which can be a huge swing in record Face Bonnies instead of Army, playing Albany in dome instead of a rainstorm also helps. Downside is RPI won't help as much come selection time . Some impressive upsets by us would certainly be needed. Hope for fast start out of gate before Maryland and then continued growth .DMac wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 12:13 pm Agree with that, certainly hopeful of it anyway. Trivia question: what 2 teams played the first lacrosse game in the Carrier(now JMA) Dome?

Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Re: Syracuse 2022
I think this was a HUGE mistake on Gait's and the University's part. It doesn't matter if Spallina proves to be the best player on 'Cuse this year and the next four years, it doesn't even matter if he works out at 5 am every day harder than any other player on the team, it doesn't even matter if the perception is he's the most mature kid as a freshman on a team with 40+ recruits...what matters is earning the jersey; you don't earn the jersey playing at Mt. Sinai High School, you earn it playing for Syracuse, and to my knowledge, Spallina hasn't actually played a minute of a regular season game yet for the Orange.
You can look at this only two ways: either Gait had so little regard for every upperclassman that he thought an unproven but heralded freshman should get #22 instead (that ought to do wonders to get the upperclassmen enthused... ), or Spallina's dad insisted that Joey get the # in order to follow through on his commitment. Other than that, nothing here makes sense.
I thought the Scanlan episode would have taught the school a thing or two, but I guess not. I am not a fan of this move at all. It has far more percentages of a downside choice than not. If for any reason Spallina fails to live up to hype, either with personal production or the team's W-L, this one move could set the university back a long while in lacrosse.
Earn the jersey, don't have it gift-wrapped for you just because you did well playing high school ball on Long Island. A total slap to every 'Cuse upperclassman who's ground it out the last many years in a tough environment.
