How did she throw her stick down??

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

“Esposito with the drill! She finds the back of the net—throws her stick down empathetically!” (1:00 mark)

Also, a comical moment (1:21) Stony Brook is napping on the new self start rule when NU scores what turns out to be the game winner.

Big Hand for Selena Lasota and BTN+

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

With a handy dandy (inexpensive $40 for the year) subscription to BTN Plus, one can access Big 10 women's lacrosse games clear back to 2016. Here's a great highlight from the Carolina at NU game back in March of that year. I always enjoy the sideline shots that catch the spontaneous reaction of the team when a huge goal is scored. Hollywood can't replicate it. Human drama in its purest form.

Another All Time Favorite--Julia Collins '18 Navy

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

In 84 games Julia scored 181 goals, 71 assists, 88 GB’s, 30 CT’s and 277 DC’s. Her last season was her best with 77G, 26A, 26GB, 7 CT and 74DC. Her imposing 5' 8" frame made her impossible to bully cover off her determined path.

Bully Cover?

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

As demonstrated here by Meg Douty on Aurora Cordingley this past summer at The Games...

Image

Yep--bully covered. She defended her so closely and so aggressively that she "bullied" her into coughing up the ball, and never really threatening to get off a shot. Outstanding job. They should use this sequence as a teaching video at Defense School. Certainly Sydney Scales and Belle Smith (among others) are grads.

Indeed. Seems to be a characteristic of hers. Though slight of stature, Hollie Schleicher is tough as nails. She hits the turf often in her intrepid pursuit of possession. "Vacuum" Hollie--also a prodigious lifter of ground balls. 33 in each of the last two seasons with 92 and 108 draw controls respectively.

This isn't intense and relentless D, it's Emma underachieving and choking (can't have it both ways).
Bully cover? What a god awful term for good D. Ranks right up there with Ginny.

Emma turns her stick into an extended/reaching SS stick where she checks herself, losing the ball. Sydney is a very good defender (love her tenacity), but this example was more on Emma...the ground ball was nice 8-)

I think this applies perfectly:

"She defended her so closely and so aggressively that she "bullied" her into coughing up the ball, and never really threatening to get off a shot."

OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 6:27 am Women’s lacrosse is a beautiful sport to photograph. Like looking at ballet at times. Here's a good example. Michigan's Bianca Brueckner is captured in a familiar pose for all of women's lacrosse. Graceful lines and slant of the body would make this a lovely sculpture.

Another example. And in this sport, there are always new ones.

What was written...?

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

For the record folks—this first post

https://fanlax.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=266879#p266879

...is what is being alluded to earlier in this thread here:

"This isn't intense and relentless D, it's Emma underachieving and choking (can't have it both ways)."

As anyone will see upon reading and assessing the original post--nothing is mentioned of choking or underachieving--

Nor in the followup post with the two other examples:
