Penn State 2023
Re: Penn State 2023
Good summary by Tanner Demling https://lacrossebucket.com/2022/10/28/f ... any-lions/
Re: Penn State 2023
Will Peden will start, probably Lazzaro, Tambroni did a Grant Ament compare with Peden - I thought Eric Spanos was the catch from that Malvern class, but it may be Peden.
They need more size on that team which they may now be
getting, Ben Spinelli is someone to keep an eye on, a newbie.

Re: Penn State 2023
I doubt Lazzaro was plugged in as a starter initially, but he improved greatly in the last year to the point the “raters” had
to re-evaluate him.
I’d rather Tambroni bring him along more slowly, given a couple
past highly rated PSU recruits, Brennan O’Neill and Canyon Birch - and the issues there.
Tambroni has a deep bench of 1, 2 year players who
got good experience last year.

Re: Penn State 2023
I'm not following. O'Neil never went to PSU. And Canyon Birch red-shirted his freshman season (due to injury) and did OK as a sophomore. How does this relate to Tambroni?

Re: Penn State 2023
I’d rather, given that Brennan O’Neill re-committed to Duke
and O’Neill’s recruit replacement Canyon Birch ended up
transferring — those kind of high rate recruit issues — that Lazzaro not be brought along too quickly and with too much in expectations — of course if Lazzaro outplays all other competition next spring, then that’s OK too.

You sure? His brother Blaine graduated and I don't see Canyon on the Roster. https://www.tampaspartans.com/sports/ml ... =last_name

He’s there. Tampa hasn’t added freshmen and transfers to their roster yet.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 7:18 pmYou sure? His brother Blaine graduated and I don't see Canyon on the Roster. https://www.tampaspartans.com/sports/ml ... =last_name
Re: Penn State 2023
He did OK, was much more active in the last few games,
had a good game against Rutgers — I really have no insight
nor really care to speculate why Birch decided to transfer,
Birch was New Jersey prep/high school’s all-time leader in points and goals, don’t know if he still is.

Re: Penn State 2023
Birch was the recipient of playing in a pretty weak conference in high school, hence the incredible points he put up. Certainly a great feat, but it wasn't against parochial schools or even the big publics. Even with insane amount of points, he wasn't thought to be slam dunk, even with the lofty IL ranking I remember him having. Any comparison with O'Neill is pure crazy talk.
At the B1G level of lacrosse, he wasn't big enough or quick enough. If you are his size, you better be lightening quick. He didn't possess the speed needed at his size for that level of play. There are much bigger guys who are as fast or faster on every team in the league.
Great high school career. Not everything translates to the college level though. I don't recall the total but he put up big numbers in high school.

Re: Penn State 2023
I don’t believe anyone is comparing Canyon Birch to O’Neill.
After O’Neill re-committed to Duke, Tambroni was in the market
for a highly rated replacement, they were able to get Birch to
de-commit from Army.
That’s really the only connection.
Actually, my thinking is Birch could have done better in Army’s
system rather than Tambroni’s, but I guess Birch did not want to
commit to the required military service.

…different team from a year ago,
At the attack … Grad transfers Kevin Winkoff (Binghamton) and Chris Jordan (St. Lawrence) weren’t on the team last year and grad student Jack Traynor … Penn State is joining a trend also being employed by their Big Ten counterparts: taking the field with grown men … Sophomore Will Peden, the team’s leading score as a freshman, is probably the best example. He played mostly attack …

Yeah — that guy was hard to not notice, but I thought they’d go
after the Albany kid, Silas Richmond.
They’re gearing up for 2023 with this kid and that top 10 “rated”
kid from the Philly area.

Re: Penn State 2023
I will add he’s probably a lot cheaper to flip as I’ve heard Bart is less generous with international students the last year or two as planned vs a SUNY out of state cost.
