That is not disrespecting or showing a lack of sympathy for the shooting victims. I'm making fun of the media & my attackers. imo -- people should be "gendered" based on what the ID in their wallet says &/or the appearance they present. If the police, media, or individuals get it different than the person's wishes, it's on that person for not conveying it more clearly. The burden is theirs, imo.a fan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 1:26 pmOh, I have read your post. Have you? I'm not raving. What you want everyone here to do is ignore every post you've ever made, and pretend like you're a brand new poster here, posting for the first time. Sorry my man, that's not how it works. You want us to forget that you've mocked pronouns before...and have in this very thread: your "{Dmac -- how do you think this Navy training video went over in the Goat Locker ? }".....again, making fun.
You and I butt heads when you try and act like you have no posting history. You have a history of mocking pronouns. I'm responding to that history coupled with the post. Next time, do as you claim you practice and say nothing about a mass shooting. Then I have nothing to react to....simple.
Yet you saw fit to comment, and not for the first time, about pronouns used in a story about a mass shooting.
And then pretend, as you are here, that you just have no earthly idea why anyone his reacting to your obvious mocking of the media daring to try and show respect for the dead.

Nope. You're wrong. No one cares. No one will chastise someone for making an honest mistake. And if they do? Guess who has the high ground?old salt wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 12:04 amWho is disrespecting anyone ? Who is ignoring their preference ? If you get it wrong & did not investigate in advance, you've mis-gendered someone.
It's a two way street, my man. Reasonable folk won't care even a little if someone makes a mistake. And if they do flip out over a mistake? It's on THEM. THEY are now being disrespectful a**holes.
This isn't complicated. Follow the rules your parents taught you. That it. No more, no less.

That's LITERALLY what was required. To the letter. And you managed the change just fine.
You're arguing to argue.
Re: media matters
Nope. Same rules you were taught as a kid: address someone how they prefer to be addressed. And you don't have to use one single pronoun if you want. Address them by their formal name, and you don't have to worry about pronouns AT ALL.
I just told you above.
No, they're fine. In each case it was about not wanting to use minimal effort to avoid calling someone something they don't want to be called. And it's about intent. And again, when I call it "your team"....I mean folks who know addressing someone in a way they don't want to be addressed is wrong....yet do it anyway. You're claiming you'd do that in the case of pronouns.
I'm claiming that you're lying, and would never intentionally be rude. Which of us is right?
No...but how is it you think folks stopped using racial slurs or things like the word "boy" so quickly? Consequences, my friend. Real world consequences.

The NAACP wasn't named by white folk. When black became preferred by blacks, there
was no problem with the transition for the vast majority. Lived through it and was around
plenty of black folk at the time, was a pretty smooth transition....a non issue, really.

From the age of 17, I lived & worked in close quarters with other Americans of all races while serving in the military.
It was easy to use the politically correct terminology. We were instructed how to do so.
If you look at the links I posted above you will see how the different services are attempting to deal with this issue.
This issue is much more complex. You didn't have to inquire about anyone's race. You treated everyone the same.

You still have to use 3rd person pronouns in other communications & correspondence. What do they use for gender on coroner's reports ?
I just told you above.
Romance languages are not as gender neutral as English. You'll end up insulting someone by referring to them as "it", as if they were an animal.

This is not the same thing. You continue to ignore the critical difference. You can't know, with certainty, a person's preferred pronoun without asking. Your race analogy is bogus. There are no race based pronouns. The word "boy" is still used in other contexts.
I agree on your workaround. That works fine when addressing someone directly. That is no longer the case when you must communicate, verbally or in writing, about another person. It is still necessary to use 3rd person pronouns. That's why the military is going to such great links now to change & comply. See the links I posted above from the Navy & AF. It's eve more complex for the Army -- they're basing it on medical status.

No, you don't.
Pronoun: any of a small set of words (such as I, she, he, you, it, we, or they) in a language that are used as substitutes for nouns or noun phrases and whose referents are named or understood in the context
Pronouns are optional. Don't want to be tripped up by them? Use nouns. Fake problem solved. It's even easier in the armed forces.
Lieutenant Anderson told me to move this jeep. There. Done. You need any other grammar helpers while I'm here?
Again, you do the same all the time. I just don't whine about it.
As for lying----you're just fine with all of this, and acting like you have a grammar school education, instead of a degree from one of the best colleges on the planet. You're trying to make hay because your right wing media sources told you to. So that's what you're gonna do------pretend like this is SO difficult.
There are plenty of race based nouns. Pretending like pronouns are special and sooper complicated is getting your nowhere. Unlike many FoxNation (and MSNBC, since we're here) viewers, you aren't a drooling moron.
