Snowzilla

Post by ardilla secreta »

Just modest coverage of about 5” from 7pm to 11m last night of wet snow as is typical when the ground is still warmer. Right now it’s clear and sunny in my area of North Buffalo. However, more is to come though.

Conversely, just minutes away from downtown and further south there is a wall of lake effect snow still coming down. Over 36” in places like suburban southtowns like Hamburg. The Thruway is currently closed in that area.

Recently purchased Greenworks snowblower worked like a champ in the heavy snow.

Shot of a snow wall descending on part of downtown just a few minutes away.

Not at all envious!! Hopefully not a jinx but no snow on the ground here in Cuse. Atypical for us as you well know. Looking pretty good for the foreseeable future too. Buffalo and Cuse usually run neck and neck for most snowfall, hope you win it this year. Wouldn't want to think you wasted your money on a snowblower, ya know. ;)

as, if you don’t mind me asking, which model did you get? How long does it run on one battery charge?

Asking for a friend who is rapidly approaching the big 70 and has about had it with shoveling.

Thanks.

Didn't even know they were making electric snowblowers, just doesn't sound right. Batteries don't like cold and I'd question whether or not they'd be powerful enough to deal with real snowfalls.
Pretty nice review for you here, njb, sounds pretty darn good.

Greenworks Pro 80V 20”. I already had the batteries for a line trimmer and leaf blower so it only cost around $270. Battery lasted me the time it took to clear the 120’ driveway and sidewalk. About 30 minutes and I have a backup battery to continue neighbors walk while I was out. I like the exercise of shoveling, but sometimes, especially the wet snow, it becomes too much. Two neighbors next to me have radiant heat under their driveway which is pretty damn convenient.

God bless you northerners, and good luck.

I always had plans to move south after retiring, and the plan was for 2018. The last snowfall in March 2017 did in my snowblower, and I wasn’t about to buy a new one to get me through the 2017/18 winter. Retired to NC in July 2017 and have only had one snowfall of about 2” since. You folks can keep that white stuff.

Thanks, DMac. Down here in Jersey we are definitely snow weenies compared to you guys up in Syracuse and Buffalo. I’ve been thinking battery for a while since we could go as much as four or five years without needing a serious snowblower. Would be concerned that a gas powered model wouldn’t start just when I needed it most. Neighbor across the street has had that problem.

You guys think you got it bad??? I got roped into helping with a lacrosse clinic tomorrow morning for the league I was roped into being head coach (and loved but don't tell the league head I want him to keep thinking it was hard for me) and its going to be 33 degrees teaching a bunch of newbies to the game to pick up ground balls, catch and throw!

This is total bulls**t for Atlanta!

You mean it was colder today n Atlanta than in Buffalo?

Lacrosse is the reason I can enjoy shoveling snow without harming my back. Scoop through and keep the back hand down.

Fortunately no, had a bit earlier this week.

I always found “bad” weather separated the boys from the men…

The worse it was the more I enjoyed punishing the faint of heart. 35 degrees and a light rain is perfect soccer and lacrosse weather.

Orchard Park, south of Buffalo (where the Bills stadium is located) got 5.5 FEET of snow in less than 24 hours.

This kind of weather is usually very localized dependent on how the wind across the lakes set up. Parts of the city got less than 6 and the airport got 13 inches.

Have a college friend who lives just south of Watertown NY - he got about 6 inches while the city and north suburbs got 30-36 inches and a total of 58 inches over the past two days. East of the city they got 70.9 inches in Natural Bridge NY.

That’s what I told the other coaches. Get hard so you don’t have to go to Syracuse!
