Notre Dame 2023

Post by gymman1031 »

To start this off, I will ask:

-Might 2023 Notre Dame be the first team since 2008 Syracuse to win the national title one year after not making the postseason? The Irish will be very talented and hungry.

Wouldn't they be more like 2009 Syracuse since they already won the national title this year? :D :D

Might... might not. Duke might also.... and UNC might also and Syracuse might...might not.

Have to go back to 2019 to find the last Notre Dame roster with a player on it who played in a Final Four. It’ll have been 8 years from their last appearance next spring. Might want to start there before thinking championship

Can we assume, based on grammar and non-sequitur post that you did not major in English while at Yale?

Chris Fake is very good. He benefitted a lot during his most high profile year, his freshman year, from the best shortie combination Yale has ever had (Tyler Warner and Jason Alessi), so (as is the case for most poles) he'll do best with good ssdm support, but he's a tough, physical pole who will make almost any unit better. Brian Tevlin is an amazing guy and leader who happens to be an outstanding 2-way midfielder. Their arrival in South Bend doesn't mean ND draws the "take a ride in the final four" card in monopoly, but they'll make the team deeper and better.

It will be interesting to see ND's 2023 schedule (true of other ACC teams, but especially of the Irish); hopefully it will have more than 12 games. Gotta play OOC games games against non-Midwestern competition; would love to see them play an Ivy or two. Fake is indeed very good; he and Tevlin are winners.

Don't hold your breath regarding more than 12 games. Haven't seen Corrigan do that in a LONG time. It's honestly the biggest mystery in D1 Lacrosse. I just don't get how he thinks the extra practice gained by starting 3 weeks later than everyone else is more conducive than early game experience that they could build on in May when it counts. A real head-scratcher

Notre Dame seems to be the final holdout in terms of posting their 2023 schedule...

Always are … “must have the schedule approved by the Provost” nonsense. They need to get over themselves.

A game in their glorified gym vs Detroit Mercy is a given.

These are the "big games" I see based on their opponents schedules. Two Saturday games (and probably some weekday games) missing. 2/18 will probably be there first game and probably vs. Detroit Mercy.

2/25/2023 Notre Dame Georgetown
3/4/2023 Notre Dame Maryland
3/11/2023 Notre Dame OSU
3/18/2023
3/25/2023 Notre Dame UVA
4/1/2023 Notre Dame Syracuse
4/8/2023 Notre Dame Duke
4/15/2023
4/22/2023 Notre Dame UNC
4/30/2023 Notre Dame UVA
5/6/2023 Notre Dame UNC

Still a few holes left, but here's the schedule so far. No Detroit Mercy this year. Likely games on 2/4 and 4/15.

2/15 vs. Marquette
2/19 vs. Cleveland State
2/25 @ Georgetown
3/4 @ Maryland
3/11 vs. Ohio State
3/18 @ Michigan
3/25 vs. UVA
4/1 @ Syracuse
4/8 vs. Duke

4/22 vs. UNC
4/30 @ UVA
5/6 @ UNC

That 4/15 hole may just be a hole and that's their complete schedule. ND's had years where they had a long break in games towards the end of the season.

Mystifying to me that Notre Dame would rather play Carolina twice than have longtime rival Denver on the schedule…

I mean, not sure those two things are related to one another. ACC decided a couple years back to play 6 conference games with one another. Last year ND played Duke and Cuse twice. This year they’re playing UNC twice. They’re going back to 4 ACC games next year so perhaps that allows more scheduling flexibility

Because the closed loop only had so much benefit and they see the downside now after trying to game the schedules (the ACC as a whole). Strikes me as cheap for programs that have so much to start with.
