Found him. VA kid, may not be as "deep" as we think- could just be a local kid making a team. I know a few years back, they took a walk on from Sewannee (D3 in TN). He was from VA Beach and I believe he was ROTY in his conference in D3. Walked on at UVA and I don't think he ever saw any PT or was still on the team by the time he graduated.

most teams carry rosters in the 50s. virginia's in the 40s and usually mid 40s or lower. lots of kids don't play. that's a tough gig, but lots of guys make it not so, and max out their experience and also help the team.

uva has always taken walkons. last year, they had at least 4. i can't remember the last time they didn't have one. some (a bunch recently) have been big contributors, others not. but it's one of the best things about the program, imo. some schools choose not to, others aren't even able to at times.

Virginia took a walk on named Kyle Kology a few years ago. He ended up a multi year starter and got some HM AA recognition. He was a very fine player. Last year a walk on LSM, Mitchell Whalen became a key player and Lars had a short stick, Jack Peele from DC played regular minutes as well so yes. If you can play Lars will give you an opportunity

it's very longstanding, from probably every precursor coach until now. jason murphy was maybe their mvp one year. davi sacco their best d-man for a bit. thompson brown was actually a decent sized contributor to the football team. loads of others. my guess is that tiffany was well informed of the tradition, and they've carried it on.

Terenzi going to be converted into a D-Mid or no real indication that this will be the case?

Too early to tell but, Unbelievably, IL did an outstanding in depth article on Virginia for Fall Ball. It wasn’t written by one of the known guys on their staff to me anyway. Lars was quoted as saying that “Joey Terenzi is our next version of Ryan Conrad” which is the highest praise for a midfielder. That means playing everywhere as an old school 2 way middie. Lars said that Terenzi had excelled while he spent most of the Fall on offense and on the wing and now was going to get work on defense. Sounds like they will plug him wherever they need him to start anyway.

Is my memory failing me or was Billy Glading Ryan Conrad before Ryan Conrad?

I have seen him play in HS many times he was a strong player in the WCAC same attack line at Angelus JHU, Walsh, Rutgers, Boyle VT, Han, MI and he is on age as far as I know. I also saw UVA's incoming 23 and 24 commits play and I know the 23 at least is slightly older. Burke has a chance to be a contributor to this team as he did a "gap" year at Tampa and would have been highly recruited if he went to showcases today.

I have not a clue as to why he did not get much run in Tampa. I do know that he was a strong HS player and played competitive HS teams and I would not be surprised to see him compete but that will be a really tough place to get on the field as there is more talent at that position and only one ball.

In 2022, Tampa was good. Still surprised he didn't get some run but they were good.

I have zero knowledge about the walk on but agree that it would be tough to get on any where much less attack. That may not be what this addition is even about with a +/-45 man roster. One further note about Lars policy. When he 1st arrived, the team had underperformed to its talent level for several years and was at the bottom of the league. Lars came in and announced tryouts for the whole team including scholarship players. People howled and moaned about the fairness when several scholarship players were cut from the team in favor of walk ons. The scholarship guys stayed on at the University, in most cases. IMO, it was a fair way to focus the team. Any scholarship player who couldn't make a 40 something roster for that particular squad probably wasn't a D1 player.

D1 ability is a wide swath. As down as you say UVA was when Lars arrived, just because he cut someone does not mean they were not D1 talent. For example they may have been a D pole under 6'1". I would credit his recruiting for his schemes. He may of thought the cupboard was bare for what he wanted to do. He has raised the bar for sure. I wish him luck keeping the bar so high.

There will be as many reasons as there are recruited players that were not invited back. Each one will have been a unique story and situation.

From the outside looking in, I would expect many of the "cuts" to have been players who did not share the new coaching staff's cultural viewpoints. Whether that was social distractions, leadership expectations, effort, contributions off the field - the new staff was brought in to create a new culture. That doesn't happen without a "get on board or get out" mentality.

Based on a few trolls that lurked around these boards at the time, I think at least a few feathers got ruffled in the process. Winning two national titles and the passage of time has certainly quieted that segment of the "fan base"....

I'd be shocked if Terenzi's converted to D-Mid. That written, I'm sure he'd do an excellent job. Ran into Lars at the 2022 LIC's. I commented that Terenzi reminded me of Conrad. Putting on his diplomatic hat, Lars just grinned.

On a team that features lots of converted attackmen at midfield, I would expect Terenzi to land on the second midfield, maybe part of a four man rotation with the first, and take a fair share of wings. They are pretty deep at ssdm, but he seems like the kind of player who could hold his own if stuck in on d. I haven’t seen him, but the comments about Conrad and Glading jibe with what I’ve heard about him.

if he can contribute from the wings - he should get plenty of opportunities....

I'm not sure when IL did this, but suddenly almost every teams '22 recruits has a sudden jump in the number of their 3 star recruits. It seems most teams had a lg jump in the 3 star recruits, Maybe I'm behind the curve but, I know that Hobart didn't have ANY 3 star recruits for the '22 class till less than 2 weeks ago. Didn't I mention something about re-evaluating players recently?????

It seems like if you committed to a mid to high D1 program, they just elevated you to a 3 star? Like air force has 20 2024 commits, and 19 are now 3 stars suddenly. Just briefly scanned through all the Big10 programs, and now every recruit for a big 10 school is at least a 3 star. Not sure that's systemic, but it's pretty lazy if it is.

Oh you committed to X, you must be a 3 star.
