Elon Musk approached Glencore CEO about buying stake in JSE-listed mining giant

The world's richest man, SA-born Elon Musk, held talks with Glencore, which is headed by South African Gary Nagle, over the possibility of Tesla buying as much as a fifth of the mining and commodity giant, according to a report by the Financial Times.
This comes on the heels of Musk closing his R805 billion takeover of Twitter last week.
Two sources familiar with the matter told the FT that discussions for the electric car and battery maker buying a 10 to 20% stake in Glencore began last year and continued in March when Nagle, Glencore's CEO, visited Telsa's California factory. The electric car industry is reliant on mining companies for raw materials such as cobalt, lithium, and nickel for batteries.
Glencore has a market cap of nearly R1.4 trillion.
The talks ended without a deal, as Tesla was reportedly concerned about whether Glencore's coal mining business was compatible with its environmental goals.
Tesla didn't respond to the FT's request for comment, while Glencore declined to comment.
Musk had previously tweeted that "Tesla might actually have to get into the mining & refining directly", referencing rising lithium prices.
Glencore is one of the world's largest cobalt suppliers, and it currently has a deal with Tesla for up to 6 000 tons of cobalt a year to build lithium-ion batteries at the company's Shanghai and Berlin Gigafactories. Glencore has cobalt operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cobalt mining in the country has been linked to human rights abuses and use of child labour.
Tesla previously defended that deal, saying:
Because Tesla recognizes the higher risks of human rights issues within cobalt supply chains, particularly for child labor in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we have made a significant effort to establish processes to remove these risks from our supply chain.

You should be thrilled Elon took your advice from back in the day, its another chance to say "see, I told ya so". I can recall all those comments like... It is a conspiracy theory that puts 2 + 2 together to get 5. It tries to sell the theory that Musk and rich friends in the technology space don't really care about money, that they have an overarching humanitarian interest, technology billionaires running the world. What is important is getting man to colonize space as soon as possible. To do this the billionaires have to own the worlds disinformation space, they have to control the flow of information. That is what the Twitter deal is all about. The only people that will buy this are the weak minded. Of course there is a built in audience for this -- Trump's world.
Of course Trump, Kanye West and Putin all have their parts to play. Reminds me of really bad early 1950s science fiction.
There is of course danger in all of this. I believe the part about Musk wanting to control the disinformation space. He has a bad case of Trump envy.

As an aside....if it turns out true will you then view them as a credible news outlet?
If you want something that is actually true - Paul Pelosi used the excuse to go to the bathroom where his phone was charging and called 911. He could not say much as the perpetrator was just outside, but left the call open and over the next few minutes the dispatchers heard enough to send in the cops (took them 2 minutes to arrive from that point and a total of 6 minutes after Pelosi left the call). -- a Brain is better than a gun.
You can find the recording now online of the 911 call.

Re: Elon Musk (yet another authoritarian)
So I suppose its all settled, b/c according to Kismet there is an affidavit, we should just question nothing.
I've saw the affidavit and it still does not explain why Pelosi chose not to stay in the bathroom. Furthermore, why would Pelosi go after the guy with the hammer when the friggen police are coming in the very door that he just opened for them.
c. While talking with each other, Pelosi went into a bathroom, where Pelosi grabbed
a phone to call 9-1-1. DEPAPE stated he felt like Pelosi’s actions compelled him
to respond
e. DEPAPE stated that they went downstairs to the front door. The police arrived
and knocked on the door, and Pelosi ran over and opened it. Pelosi grabbed onto
DEPAPE’s hammer, which was in DEPAPE’s hand. At this point in the
interview, DEPAPE repeated that DEPAPE did not plan to surrender and that he
would go “through” Pelosi.
f. DEPAPE stated that he pulled the hammer away from Pelosi and swung the
hammer towards Pelosi. DEPAPE explained that Pelosi’s actions resulted in
Pelosi “taking the punishment instead.”

Pelosi probably grabbed at the hammer in a defensive action to keep DePape from swinging it at him. Didn't work.
