Or perhaps they could land Nadelin.
We need a Hopkins man back at the helm.

Cordish w his casinos and JC with the transport business he inherited his ( senior year?) have done well but are not the equivalent of Joe Tsai and what he is doing for Y or to the sport. But they do provide a secure cushion. Cordish graduated in 1950. JC is committed to the program but is approximately 75 now and has moved outside the state. They are both great assets to the program no doubt.
Hopkins has done really well for a century or so in the sport not so well helping its undergrads. Its focus was on its grad students not its undergrads until more recently. It has worked diligently to make up for lost time. MB is an anomaly amongst the grad population. He graduated in the 1950s (?)z. I feel certain you are right over time others will come along but will they have the same commitment to lax as Cordish and Cowan both of whom won multiple national titles. Lax on campus is no longer the focus it once was.
I don’t know what restrictions if any MB’s financial aid gift carries with it or if it is unrestricted. In the past he has not gifted for sports. Over the relatively recent past Hopkins has had plans to upgrade the swimming facility, construct an indoor lax facility and a couple of other projects that never reached fruition.
Our B1G partners are mostly state schools receiving significant revenue from their media contract we do not share in with lower costs for instate students. I expect that will increasingly matter.
I wonder whether Hopkins is equal to the Ivies at this point. I understand your point but they are kicking our butt from my pov. As you noted tine will tell.

Quint: Why not force a winning faceoff player to stay on the field for the offensive possession?
Made that suggestion years ago. The box official keeps them on the field until a shot is taken, or a turnover.
At a bare minimum, if forces coaches to teach them to play defense. And at best, it gets rid of more fogos and replaces them with lacrosse players.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
LOL if there are kids stupid enough to allow the particular helmets a team uses to impact their college decisions then I'm not sure they'd survive Hopkins anyways. Or Princeton, Penn, and Cornell for that matter. They seem to be doing ok wearing the STX buckets
They definitely are uglier though I'll give you that.

Emphasis on the world "effectively". '
If you're an AD, are you honestly blaming Benson for Hopkins' past woes? And you're going to turn a blind eye toward how he did at Maryland?
That's fine, and that's your opinion, but a reasonable AD would give Benson a look at a bare minimum.
You're acting that that would be insane. It isn't. Unless, naturally, you have inside info. that the rest of us don't......
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
It wouldn't be "insane." The operative word was "realistic" (*very* realistic, actually). How often do fired coaches return? Give me a list of some recent examples to show that a situation like this is very realistic. There are so many doubts and contingencies and things that would have to happen that, no, it isn't realistic.a fan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 11:04 amEmphasis on the world "effectively". '

Well, if he does do well at Providence, and, maybe with a miracle, he gets the Hopkins job, would you give him a nice welcome? Or are there other coaches you would much rather have than Bobby?HopFan16 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 11:13 amIt wouldn't be "insane." The operative word was "realistic" (*very* realistic, actually). Might Greg Raymond of Hobart be a candidate someday? He is a Hopkins guy.

I also think he'd do a pretty good job if given the chance.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
I pay zero attention to assistant coaches in D1 lacrosse, so I couldn't give you an answer.
Seems pretty clear to me that the AD was simply cleaning house for a fresh start at Hopkins, rather than evaluating each assistant coach before pulling the trigger.
And it would seem that John Tillman would agree with this view.
All just off season ramblings.....best of luck this year!

Joe lives next door to me. Pretty frequent visitors to each others patio, etc. His two daughters and their families live in the next properties over. David lives maybe 750 yards away, around the corner. Our paths don't cross much, though.OCanada wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 7:41 am MDLax

BTW, across the street from us is Steve Mitchell. Young kids.
I don't know how many Hopkins players have been as successful financially as has Steve, but I suspect there are some.
I agree that there's no single former player with Tsai's wealth. But there's plenty of alumni dough, if organized (which I assume it is), to rival what any of the Ivies are doing, including even Tsai's support level.
I'm certainly not suggesting that Bloomberg's dough is or will be going to support athletics. He's made enormous contributions to all sorts of academic programs etc, but what I was referring to is the capacity for Hopkins to now be truly need-blind, with financial aid really close to or equal to the most generous of the Ivies.
That level of financial aid would put Hopkins on par with the Ivies when recruiting, but Hopkins also has the fully funded D1 scholarships to provide. That's a significant advantage versus all Ivies.
I know what the Ivy funding is for various lax programs, the amounts the schools contribute versus what their friends programs contribute, and I'd be amazed if Hopkins doesn't equal or exceed the top most of those. Pretty sure they do.
Yes, your Big 10 opponents are likely to have spillover funding from media contracts with other sports...but lax isn't king anywhere but at Hopkins.
Seems to me that it's up to the alumni, not the administration, to keep it that way.
And my comparison was to what Ivies are able to accomplish.
