Johns Hopkins 2023
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
https://laxallstars.com/quint-kessenich ... questions/
Quint and Carc have become parodies of themselves even though I like both. He had 4 months w/out a season and came up with stuff he's been complaining about for over a decade including a few shots directed at the CLC and an employer which has put both at the center of their college broadcasts. So much of that is so sad. Carc ripping the Carrier Dome I'm sure will play well up north. Quint ripping the Hopkins ESPN deal ignores that all schools especially the ivies, acc, big ten and Georgetown have the ability to fund decent lacrosse broadcasts and have chosen not to. Georgetown went out of its way for that ridiculous streaming deal. Hoya Suxa.
On the positive side for all the ripping on Hopkins, talk of the growth of the game, new facilities, mid majors in bucolic rural settings Homewood got rave reviews all year w/the womens final four, pll, and this piece. The simplicity, the history, the location, the weather, the campus, I'm not sure w/a sport like lacrosse the sports management dorks and developers can build a better situation.
Football is undefeated and sundays fall ball is the focus of alumni. Only at Hopkins.

Those guys also had completely loaded rosters with the best of the best playing on them and everyone in the world knew it. You take one look at our roster and completely understand why we are where we are. I'm sure the admins would like to see improvement but they understand Rome wasn't built in a day and you've still got 2 and a half classes worth of guys you and your staff didn't even initially recruit. If things don't start looking up next year or the year after you and your hire are going to be having some hard conversations but until then I'm sure the discussion was had at hiring about expectation setting and timelines.Sagittarius A* wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 9:48 am https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ ... ins-/60301
"The Blue Jays are 11-18 over the last two seasons and have missed the NCAA tournament both years. I asked Milliman after practice whether he feels an increased pressure to win in this, his third season, and he flatly said “No.”"
I can't ever imagine Chic or Zim ever saying anything like that.
Proves my points absolutely.
He's saying he doesn't feel pressure to win because someone told him not to worry about it.
Have you not eyes yet cannot see, have you not ears yet cannot hear?
PM likely got what ANY new hire gets — a few years to build a new system, get his guys, instill a new culture, etc. If at or near the end of his contract things haven't turned around, they'll move on. It's not a lifetime appointment. Whoever they hired would be getting the same benefit and whoever they hire next — whether that's in two years or 20 — will get that as well because that's how it works. This isn't the NFL where they fire you after one or two years. Brecht went 9 years at Rutgers without making the NCAA tournament and you didn't really hear a whole lot about him being in cahoots with their admin to secretly tank the lacrosse program for reasons unknown. This is PM's only second normal season with a fall ball and third overall. Find me a lacrosse coach in recent memory at a relevant program who was not afforded at least 4-5 years (not counting instances where there was an off-field fiasco, like with DeLuca at Cornell). I'll wait.
A minimum of 6 years of losing is the key?
“I wish you would!”

Zim’s record his last year didn’t help, but I don’t think that why he was shown the door.

Yep... lacrosse wasn't the issue.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
ok, you'd know better than me.
I was up in Boston and not paying close attention in those early years of my '20's...but you get the pattern, right?
It's darn hard to win championships, a lot needs to break right, but if a program actually loses momentum and is perceived to have lost its mojo, then it takes time and a little good fortune to regain that mo.
I wouldn't bet against Hopkins eventually getting the formula right again.
Could be within the next 3-5 years, if so we'll see a sense of momentum building before tremendous success actually happens.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Don’t think that was in the cards. He was, of course, far more successful than those who came between him and Petro.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
He was a great coach.
I don't agree with the reasons for his firing.
Having said that I would pull the plug on Milliman in a heartbeat.
He's had more than enough time to tank the program.
As a long time Hopkins fan, I do not see a positive outcome with him at the helm and I'm counting the days until his contract expires.
Even better, I hope he finds a new position soon and takes Daniels with him.

As for the quote from Milliman above I thought it was a poor response although I understand the point he was trying to make.

Willie Scroggs.
Hopkins coaches won 9 national titles from 1978 to 1987,
Ciccarone 3, Scroggs 3, Zimmerman 3.

Could Bobby Benson be dreaming of getting the Hopkins job someday, and, should it open, he will now have head coaching experience on his resume?

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
A successful couple of years as HC at Providence would certainly help provide him with a strong resume should a vacancy arise at Hopkins.
