The Three Penny Opera [1931] ~ Die Dreigroschenoper
Very atmospheric - the setting and costuming are outstanding. Great singing. So nice to see Lotte Lenya in her youth. Much social commentary in this gem. No surprise given that Miss Lenya's husband Kurt Weill was a democratic socialist who cared deeply for common folk.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Very popular flick back in the day. Warned of McCarthyism but not enough listened and that's how we got tRump.

Well regarded among Amazon viewers. Suspenseful film noir from 1948. Among the cast members was Marsha Hunt who recently passed away. A great actress who was black balled by fascist McCarthy and his anti-American Nazi henchmen.

Somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 star rating. Funny with good music and dance but I never found it quite as entertaining as some say it is. Back in the day, there were some who would go to movie houses in Manhattan every week just to watch it again and again. They often did it in full costume, too. Well, to each his/her own.

Except getting dressed up but came correct w super soaker, hot dogs, rice and toilet paper no doubt. First girl I got to third base with I met there she was a little older in HS and I was an 8th grader.Brooklyn wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 12:18 am speaking of Horror ~

Godzilla [1998 version]
https://miscrave.com/wp-content/uploads ... 00x747.jpg
Rotten Tomatoes gave it a one star. IMDB gave it a 5.2 (10 scale) or roughly 2.5 on the old scale. While I like the sound and visual effects, it certainly did not have much of a plot. Its efforts at achieving some form of redeeming social value are minuscule or amateurish at best. While purportedly a melodrama, it plays far more like a comedy. I thought my pals at IMDB were a bit too generous and give it a 4 or possibly 4.4 at best [2.2 to 2.5 at most on the five scale].

Another Hammer gem.
Strangely, reviews were mixed - some said 2½, others more, and one source gave it a 5. I give it about a 4★. Superb acting, scenery, costuming, plot, dialog, everything you expect in a Hammer movie.

Unlike most zombie movies which are comedy or satire, this one was actual melodrama. Superb acting and highly intense. Given a solid 4 star rating and it is well deserved.

2½ to possibly a 3 star comedy - even though it is a recent movie, several cast members are now dead

Also watched "Dawn of the Dead" [1978]. A two star semi-comedy.

Black comedy. Much to my surprise this funny movie got a 4+ rating. Lon Chaney was spectacular like always.

Watched The Infiltrator with Walter White (Cranston) and JohnLeguizamoewnty. Based in a large bust in the 80s involving BCCI and folks close to Escobar. Good movie.
How long does Leguizamo have to wait to headline movies and be considered a Jif actor? From too wong or whatever the drag Queen movie was to this to John wick to bloodline where he’s amazing. When is this dude going to get the credit others do?
And the one small time character needs more roles. Actors name is Joe Gilgun. Really good in this.

Have The Infiltrator on deck, trailer looks really good.
Watched The Good Nurse last night...great movie, based on a true story.
