Maryland 2019
Re: Maryland 2019
Understatement of the year if you follow the Navy thread
Re: Maryland 2019
Sowell is such a respected coach, so it's hard to talk about any moves at Navy. He's been a little unlucky with injuries, too. Two years ago coming off of that NCAA appearance, it seemed like Navy would again be competitive. Then Reese gets hurt and it seemed like everything went to garbage. When he came back last year, he wasn't the same player. Navy has some really, really good pieces. They do seem to have suffered from recruits leaving NAPS and going elsewhere. Life at the service academies is so tough. But given that Navy does have some talent, the recent results don't look so good.
Kinda sad. Sowell has been a fixture in DC and Maryland lacrosse for so long. He's a phenomenal person. That might give him another year to turn things around. Who know...if they completely tank the remainder of the season....
Re: Maryland 2019
Navy had to pay over market to get Sowell after the way they rested Meade. There are some big donors who think znavy can return to the 50s. Sowell hasn’t done as well or if so no better than Richie over his years. Don’t see anyone taking less than Sowell is making
Re: Maryland 2019
Nice to see Terp recruit, Dylan Pallonetti get selected. A late addition in December to the Terps' 2019 class.
Last fall, I wasn't sure the Terps would get many into the UA AA game this summer.
Logan McNaney (Salisbury) looked like he might be among the top 4 goalies and was perhaps the only likely one.
Now, Pallonetti is selected and the other late addition, Justin Sherrer (LSM) was ranked #41 and might be in range.
Further, Jack Sawyer seems to be off to a hot start for Calvert Hall this Spring. He might have an edge as he could be named as an attackman or a midfielder.

I know there's a women's board for this, but we should celebrate this here, too.

Re: Maryland 2019
A little bit of a frustrating day for the Terps.
The Terps won the FO battle, but often going backwards, Henningsen would pass it to the goalie - then the Terps would have trouble with Michigan's 10-man ride, which often lead to a heave towards Michigan's net. I think Michigan must have gotten the ball right back this way 4 or 5 times in the first half.
Great games for Bernhardt and Wisnauskus. Bernhardt had this great dodging move to the goal, where he was just running by defenders in the open field, and was on the goal in a flash - one could see the option quarterback running to daylight there.
Bernhardt and Wisnauskus each had 8 points on 5 goals and 3 assists. Bernhardt is up to 57 points on the season with Wisnauskus right behind him at 56 points. I can't really remember the Terps having such a high-scoring pair of attackmen.
Matt Rahill started on the close defense with Corley and Makar. In the 4th quarter, Rahill got the ball up near to midfield and finally sunk an empty netter after so many tries by the Terps' defense. I think the Terps' defenders really need to focus on getting the ball a little closer to midfield before launching those long empty net shots.

From Maryland twitter
Logan Wisnauskas eclipsed 100 career points (and then some!) with a five-goal, three-assist performance today!
He is the ONLY player in Maryland history to score 50 points in back-to-back seasons as a freshman and sophomore.

Re: Maryland 2019
and he is not even named honorable mention on Inside Lacrosse's midseason All-American team.
Well, at least the Tewaaraton guys added him to their watchlist.

I stayed and watched a little bit of the Women's game against Michigan, and noticed in the introductions that former Terp Adam Sear is the assistant coach for Michigan's Womens team.

Re: Maryland 2019
Michigan was not contesting the FO. They were letting Maryland win and then attacking with a pole. He often tried to whack at Henningsen legs. Refs wouldn’t call it.Cooter wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 7:48 pm A little bit of a frustrating day for the Terps.

Re: Maryland 2019
Great win. Offense looked like they got their legs back after a down game last week and had some great passing plays. The defense still seems really soft by Maryland standards but hopefully that can be corrected. There's gotta be a better way to break the 10 man ride, right? Chuck and Run just doesnt seem like a long term plan.
Re: Maryland 2019
Now the battle begins as Terps have 4-5 games against BIG beginning on the road. Can they overcome “soft” defense and turnovers to earn a favorable seed in conference and NCAA tournament. A young team needs to show that it has learned from first 11 games and can play consistently at a high level. Mental toughness to complement their skill level. Go Terps!

Maryland liked Rahill's ability to take long shots against Michigan's 10-man ride last week, but now return to the defensive starters they usually employ
Re: Maryland 2019
Very impressed with Long goal at the end of the 3rd with only a few seconds left. Looked like he also got bumped up to 1st Midfield in the 2nd half.
This was a good win for the Terps.

Tills hat
Maryland men’s lacrosse coach John Tillman’s hat had three things written on it during tonight’s game.
1.) “BC” : Brian Carroll
2.) “Dwayne” : Dwayne Osgood
3.) “RubiStrong”
Thread with more info on each and why each means so much to Tillman and Maryland lacrosse

I was at the game and the Terps looked destined to win.
