It all depends on you and your relationship with the coach and the school rules. The ivy’s you can’t go back because that is how they roll.

Do grads really need to be in the portal. They have graduated it probably more of easy way for coaches to know you are available.
While a kid is enrolled, he must either be in the portal or accepted to the new school and have paid the deposit in order to speak with the new school’s coach and the coach to speak with him. A lot of these guys entered the portal before they graduated. A number of the guys on this list have graduated and have gotten into a new school and it won’t become public unless they start posting stuff or one of you guys on the board rata them out. St. John’s for example has a nice pick up. So does Virginia. And there are several others but the list makes it look like the player is waiting around with no school. Another imperfection in college sports!

Not sure any team has ever been crushed by the portal more than LIU

Pretty evident they have no interest in being in the MAAC and/or playing for the new coach rather than Wolf. I got LaCalandria who’s been inconsistent in focus in his time at LIU which is evidenced by his in and out nature last year amongst other observations including jumping to St Joes then changing to OSU as a upper class undergrad. The others it would seem more a story if not wanting their new situation.

What I’m curious about is what’s the expectations of a top D2 kid on a strong D2 program like a Mack or LIU (CW Post) when they move to D1? Do they expect similar results? Lesser success but still at large caliber? Just happy to be D1?

I would say 90% of those kids who played D 2 before they made the move to D 1 in 2020 are gone. Wolf was recruiting kids these kids now for D 1. Their all local kids who wanted to play D 1 on Long Island I would think. Their coach left and as some of the top players left the rest decided to leave to then start all over. Their last yr or 2. I get it.

It's kind of a shame tho because if they all stayed they would have most likely won the MAAC and got a birth in tournament. Wolf can definitely recruit talent.

They were more competitive than Mack in the move up to the NEC. I do think they would’ve been highly competitive in the MAAC w Mark, Belhens and LaCalandria. Now who knows. But still it’s hard as LIU and Mack fans have seen, to even break that too four in the NEC previously. And that’s without RoMo who left two years ago. Basically for the most part SHU and MSM had largely been shut out of the NEC tourney over the years which is why when they split into divisions briefly they stated matter of fact that they put two each of Bart/RoMo/St Joes/Bryant on separate sides to balance it out.

Yeah and on defense they lost Cambell and Murphy to the transfer portal while Blume graduated. Their defense was very good last season. The only game they let up a lot of pts was when Cambell and Blume were suspended against Hobart. They lost a lot on offense and defense so not sure how they will be this season. They do have a talented freshman class coming in which will get the opportunity to play now with so many kids leaving. I think by next season they can compete in the MAAC. A 3 star goalie in Jasper Simon should be able to play right away now with Mark gone. I think the future is bright for them. I do like the new coach too.

LIU did make the NEC tournament the last two yrs and lost to St Joes 11 - 10 this yr in the 1st rd. I was at that game too. They played them tough both games this yr. They had a talented team.

Yes I agree. That's why I'm not sure how they will be this coming season with so many good players gone. Hopefully the freshman class steps up. We shall see.

It’s the same for most smaller programs trying to move up. Watched it at Bart for years in a highly competitive ECAC where they’d have strong starts but fade by the time they’d get to PSU/UMAss/St Johns/Loyola end of schedule and usually only win one of the last four or five (w Cuse and Gtown mixed in mid season w Fairfield and Rutgers). They’d beat solid programs like Bucknell early but by the time the Cuse game was done in April you could see them fading into the back end of the season.

I saw that w LIU in 21. It was clear come NEC playoff time they’d not be the same team that pulled the upset (and it was) against Bart in Geneva in March.

Yes last yr that was a big win against Hobart. This yr the expectations were higher and expected to win some big games. The team was stronger this yr especially adding Cambell on defense and Joseph at Fogo. Behlen came into his own this season too. That kid is very underrated. Lacalandra got all the glory but Behlan showed up every big game. I watched some of Hobarts games the past two yrs They looked awesome against Cuse then started conference losing games they should have won. They seem to be a team that can hang with anyone but lose games they should win. I only watched them the last two yrs but there a good team. The Defense didn't seem to be that strong but a great offense. Not sure if that's what has had been holding them back? I saw most of their tournament game vs Bryant and they looked awesome again so I was rooting for them to knock off St Joes after LIU had them on the ropes. I thought they might do it but the team that showed agajnst Cuse and Bryant didn't show for the championship game.

Injuries. We were down at least two starters basically all year until the NEC playoffs. 4, 30+ pts scorers missed more than one game during the season, at SHU we were down three offensive starters and a SSdM. Guys were coming and going all year. That was the problem.

Oh wow yeah that's a killer. Like U said these smaller schools lack depth. This yr when we played you guys and two All Conference defenseman were out it made a huge difference. Both teams had no defense that game. I think the score was 22 - 19. If we lost Behlan or Lacalandra forget it on offense. It's a huge drop off when u lose a top starter. Their isn't a 4 star freshman on the bench waiting for his shot like these top schools have. Losing 1 is tough enough but losing 3 u just can't replace them. Smaller D 1 schools have some talented players that can play anywhere just not enough of them to compete with top schools.

“ Two Long Island Boys Making the D3 -> D1 Jump

Catholic University's Tynan Hillary(DEF) - The 2x All America who was previously reported to be going to Adelphi (D2) will be using his graduate eligibility at Stony Brook University. I would expect him to find major success there as he was asked to guard three of the four 1st team All American’s from this season in the past two years (Dylan Rice, Cross Ferrara, and Ryan Gebhardt) and very much held his own. Tough loss for Adelphi as many believed they would be getting another Saint Anthony's graduate that would have immediate success. Source is private and cannot disclose.

Muhlenberg College's James Dalimonte (MID) - Will spend the next two years at Penn State. The Two time All American may struggle to find success in the BIG 10 in my opinion as his career shooting percentage is only 27%. He did have 7 Goals and 2 assists in his last as a Mule against Gettysburg though. It will be interesting to see if Dalimonte or Saint Lawrence's Chris Jordan will help contribute to a Nittany Lion team looking to bounce back from a down year and not even making the BIG 10 tournament. Source was his Social Media.“

Taken from the D3 portal page… Interesting take I wonder how they’ll pan out

Yep it’s pretty rare for even a AQ from a few conferences to have a full, reliable second line of mids that can be run out regularly.
