Silly season.
Why would the Big Ten kick Hopkins out?
The Big 10 is operating lacrosse on an island. There is no reason to think that they would change that. Unless those ACC teams join.
I think the school to watch is Notre Dame. They are the only other school that is an associate member of the B1G ... for Hockey.
So If ND joins as full time B1G members, there would be no need for associate members in any sports. That could be an issue for Hopkins. Otherwise, they will probably be ok.
There is a lot of chatter about ND joining. Personally speaking, the only question is a matter of when.
I am not sure what operating on a lacrosse island means. Lacrosse is a B1G sponsored sport and treated like any other.
Maryland is very tied to Hopkins and vice versa. The reason that Hopkins is in the B1G in the first place is because they of course wanted to be, but Maryland was adamant they go for lacrosse as well when they joined I won't say that was a sticking point to joining because we all know football is the decision maker, but that was most certainly part of the negotiations. It was a no brainer. Maryland wants to destroy Hopkins on the field, not off of it.
There is no reason to kick Hopkins out. They are a storied program, perhaps not what they once were, but still relevant, and they are Maryland's rival and Maryland is theirs.
The only way Hopkins is leaving is if they choose to, which would mean they are deciding to downgrade the program which is unlikely, or the NCAA tries to enforce the rule that all your programs must be in the same division, which is also unlikely considering they already did that.
