I think there are 4 alternates. So Kent cant replace KO?njbill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:00 amWhy do teams have alternates, then? Re: 2022 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship
Where would this year's UNC team finish in this tournament? definitely 2nd..Nalls plays for england and is one their best defenders. Brooklyn Walker-Welch is 18 and already a key starter for Cananda. Ally Mastroianni and Emma Trenchard are on team USA. Can make an argument for Ortega for being on that team. Every other player on that team is better than most of the players in this tournament. It's not even close. BC would be a challenging team and probably 3rd or 4th. After that i think the field evens out. i can see canada, england, and maybe japan beating most D1 schools

It'd be fun to have these national teams play in the Women's NCAA Tourney.Kleizaster wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:58 am i can see canada, england, and maybe japan beating most D1 schools

I think the games would be close, but I think the age of the players on the national team would prove a downside. The college students are in top shape and playing lacrosse 6-7 days of the week during the seasonMatnum PI wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 11:00 amIt'd be fun to have these national teams play in the Women's NCAA Tourney.Kleizaster wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:58 am i can see canada, england, and maybe japan beating most D1 schools

Additional alternates cannot be added to the active roster after the first day of competition when active rosters are submitted to. Those were (and I assume still are) the rules set by World Lacrosse. It's why you always sweat out when you don't have a third goalie on the tournament rosterLaxfan500 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 10:41 amI think there are 4 alternates. if you lose one to injury during the event.

20 players listed. No alternates.
If you don't believe me, check the USA roster for the championship game. If there are no additions to replace Ohmiller you will have a confirmation.

No doubt. You see it with the National teams in the tourney. Most every team improves a lot as the tourney progresses. Because... They haven't played, let alone played together, so much before the tourney.

This is not correct. Olivia Parker was an alternate for Australia and played last night and scored a goal at end. It's why there was such a joyous celebration after her goal. Each roster is 18 plus 2 alternates for a total of 20.Kismet wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 11:15 amAlternates cannot be added to the active roster after the first day of competition when active rosters are submitted to. If you've noticed Kenzie Kent and Haley Warden have been on the sideline each game but not dressed. One of the two will be activated for the championship game.
Re: 2022 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship
Pardon for me not being clear. 20 is the roster. Two inactives for every game. But no additional beyond 20 after the tournament starts.hmmm wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 11:23 amThis is not correct. So, for example, if you lost one of your goalies in this case, you could add an alternate to your active 18 but if your 20 doesn't include 3 goalies you would have to play with one goalie or convert another roster player to a goalie. That was my point. Apologies for not being clear.
Re: 2022 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship
Hmm, I think you are right, but I guess we will find out soon enough.
Surely all sports have roster rules. Obviously, you can’t add a player during a game to replace someone who got injured, but generally speaking, I think rules usually allow an injured player to be replaced within a short period of time following the conclusion of the game in which year he or she got hurt.

Re: 2022 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship
Point is, either Kenzie Kent or Haley Warden can play in KOs place tomorrow which was the question people were asking. Kent and Warden are alternates, they are not considered rostered players and can only be activated to replace an injured player.Kismet wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 11:30 amPardon for me not being clear. 20 is the roster. Got to be really tough for Japan to be playing today.
Re: 2022 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship
You'd think so but its not the way it is (unless they have changed the roster rules). Having been on staff for 2 WCs, I'm not totally spitballing here, as I am familiar with how the roster rules worked in the past (as that was one of my designated responsibilities and we lost a goalie in the round robin and had to play the rest of the tournament with only one goalie). Also why I indicated that the roster rules may have changed since then but no way to know for sure until they publish the active roster for the championship the day of.njbill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 11:35 am Hmm, I think you are right, but I guess we will find out soon enough.

HINT: I cannot find a listing of any rosters beyond the 20 with additional alternates

Quite right. Re: 2022 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship
Kismet, I think we are all clear now. I think some of us (myself included) may have been inadvertently talking past others.
I was talking about the two alternates being allowed to be activated. I was not talking about adding a 21st non-rostered player during the World Cup. I have never understood that is permitted. I do recall, from time to time, alternates being promoted to the active roster during the course of the World Cup. I was really just limiting my comments to that.
And, yes, your goalie comment is absolutely a concern. Perhaps if they expand the rosters to 23 players as has been discussed on the broadcasts, teams will carry a third goalie.

Me too. Hope she scores an important goal tomorrow.
