Close only because the Terps had less recovery time? Absolutely not. Was it a factor? I'd say yes.

I'm surprised by the second assertion here. I've done a good amount of endurance racing too (though not as a pro). 40 hours recovery between events? I mean, absolutely you can do it. I certainly did. But I felt it, and it impacted performance. That's all we're talking here.

Lacrosse is a high impact sport; recovery is essential.
Not apples to apples for sure, endurance athletes not getting smashed by other people. Just from a hydration, nutrition replacement perspective, the turnaround time isn’t an issue. And the delta in recovery times each team has are IMO not meaningful. If you got 40 and I got 43? Makes zero difference.

It’s 12 of the last 15 dating back to 2007 - Duke 2010, MD 2017, MD 2022 the outliers.

Going back to 2005 it’s 12 of 17, Hopkins and UVA won playing 2nd in 05 and 06. After that I’m not sure of which team played 1st/2nd, harder to track it down. But that’s still a pretty wild spread; and no such one exists with the men’s basketball tournament for example
how many times did the favorite win?
I mean, there’s only been official lines going back few years, but 07 Hopkins, 13 Duke, 16 Carolina, 19 UVA were def underdogs I would say. 08, 11, 18, 21 were probably pick ems. Years where the clear fave won: 09, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 22
thanks.
personally, i don't use the betting habits of degenerate gamblers as a way to shush out the favorite. looking at an imperfect but reasonable proxy, it looks like the higher seeded team has won 13 out of the last 17 years. (that's favorites 08, 11, 18 and 19 from your underdog and pick 'em lists) which is about what i'd guess, 12 or 13 of 17, if asked.

you may have a different formula for favorites of course, but to me this isn't really that hard and we're creating drama where it doesn't need to be. the better team usually wins.

Are you a Muncie grad? Or is this a random Hoosiers reference?

I live in Muncie, and all 5 of my kids are Burris products. My son was on the Burris basketball team that beat Central for the first time in 50 years last year.

Man my whole family is from Muncie. Pizza King on Madison had the best pizza when I was young. It was a luxury to have. That’s probably why it tasted so good. I moved to Ohio when I was 4 but spent summers in Muncie and would get back 4-5 times a year. I loved it. Haven’t been back in 4 years or so but owe my aunt and uncles a visit. I played a ton of basketball in the park.

maybe. I do think this year was extreme because the semifinals got pushed back. No one is ever as clearly tired as MD was out there today. Ultimately look, the winner deserved to win. There's nothing taking away from the winner ever. Personally I think it just doesn't give us the best possible championship and is an unnecessary burden on the players. But I'd push the season back to March 1 and the championship back a week or two and change a bunch of this stuff so. That's a discussion for the offseason.

Which, I guess it is the offseason!

Sent one uncle a box of fresh fish from NYC last month. He used to take me fishing when I was a kid. He is still in Muncie. I learned how to fish in rivers there. Uncles and grandfather used to take me. As I got older I would bring along one of my friends from Ohio with me for two week visits. He told me a few months ago that those were some of the best times of his life. My great grandfather and both sets of grandparents lived there.

When the game got to 9-2 and Wierman kept winning face-offs, I thought we were headed to another blowout win by the Terps.

Credit Buczek and his staff for making some crucial defensive adjustments and the players for carrying those out. They moved Adler all over the field. He started on Wisnauskas and then went to Khan. He bumped up to double pole MD's midfield. I'd said earlier in this thread that Cornell's defensive midfield would have trouble containing Maryland's 2 midfield lines, and they did have trouble. The Terps got 10 points out their midfield (not counting the LSM goal). So Buczek adjusted and unleashed Adler's disruptiveness all over the field.

Cornell would be wise to try to lock up Buczek now. He's a rising star, and if John Tillman were to retire in the next 10 years, I'd want the Terps to make a run at Buczek.

Credit to Maryland's defense. Two players in particular deserve a ton of credit. One, Roman Puglise. He tore ligaments in his wrist and will need surgery this week. He played with a cast on, and couldn't use his dominant right hand at all. Two, Matt Rahill. Starting a couple of weeks before the B1G Tournament and all through the NCAAT, teams schemed ways to get Rahill in space. To make him guard all over the field. He held Piatelli to 1 and 1 today. He held Mackesy to 1 goal on 1-8 shooting on Saturday. He played on-ball against Moore and Shellenberger when they ran 2-man plays to get Rahill in space. He played the best lacrosse of his life. He deserves more credit than he's given, and he certainly didn't deserve Quint calling him out on TV and in his podcast.

Everyone rightfully talks about how out of whack Maryland's offense was today, and Cornell had a lot to do with that. But what Maryland's defense did today was just unreal. Cornell had fits all day trying to win match-ups and just couldn't.

And pencil CJ Kirst in for a Tewy in a couple of years. He might be the best Kirst we've seen yet.
