So, ya think he said that because he was interested in watching a game?renault wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 8:00 pmIt is that, at least for the most part (clearly less so in places like Canada and Upstate NY). So what?FannOLax wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 4:05 pmNot just the Midwest: in NYC I've been told that lacrosse "is just a game for rich white boys." However, things change, just not overnight. Wider youth participation today could result in much greater viewership in 20 years, which happened with soccer in the US. For now, lacrosse's deeper roots in the Middle Atlantic and Northeast make said areas much better bets for hosting quarterfinals and Memorial Day weekend. Stadiums holding over 50,000 make no sense for quarterfinals.

Right it should be relative outperformance under the same conditions/environment.Gobigred wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 7:03 pmYou really have to measure a team's greatness by how it performed against, and how much it dominated, its peers at the time. If you could somehow resurrect the 1927 Yankees in their prime, I suspect they'd be beaten easily by any of today's major league teams. But none of today's teams dominated the game like those Yankees did then. Others have since hit more home runs in a season than Babe Ruth, but when he hit 60 it was more than were hit by any other team in the league. He dominated in his era like no one else has. But he'd probably have problems with today's 100 mph fast balls, especially under the lights. Doesn't make the Babe less great.1766 wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 6:00 pm It's very difficult to compare teams from different eras but you would have to say, if Maryland goes on to win the tournament in the fashion they have been winning games, with the size, skill, and speed of the modern day athletes, along with the equipment to match, Maryland has a very strong argument as the best team ever.
Maryland and Cornell dominated the 1976 season. Unbeaten Maryland's average winning margin was nine goals, unbeaten Cornell's eleven. Both opened up 9-0 leads in their NCAA quarterfinals, and cruised from there, with Cornell completing a 14-0 shutout. Both opened up 11-1 leads in their semifinals, Maryland over #4 Navy and Cornell over #3 Hopkins, and cruised from there. They were tied 12-12 after regulation in the finals. Only one could win, and that winner had to prevail over an equally dominant team. Lacrosse cognoscenti called them the two best teams ever.

Get back to me.Maverick wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 1:03 am I'm also calling a MD Rutgers final MD win Logan 5 points. 2g 3 assists. Edit* not going to say that MD is the best team ever but I will say there are 3 teams that can be debated between gait cuse teams, 22 terps, and 06 uva. Whichever you favor, there's a valid argument for all 3 imo
Attack: Pat O’Meally (1st), Ed Mullin (2nd),
Midfield: Frank Urso (1st), Doug Schreiber (1st), Doug Radebaugh (2nd), Gary Besosa (2nd), Larry Hubbard (HM), Brooks Sleeper (HM)
Defense: Mike Thearle (1st), Rick Avena (2nd), Ed Glatzel (3rd)
Goal: Bill O’Donnell (2nd)
Not a bad showing.

Weather for tomorrow looks awful. Don't see anyway the games won't be delayed into the night
Re: 2022 NCAA Mens LAX tournament
and then the games happen on a grass field that has been soaked by rain/thunderstorms for most of a day. It may add an element of randomness to the results.

sounds like terps might have to play their semi game at the same time as the final. they'll be exhausted.flyerfan17 wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 7:39 am Weather for tomorrow looks awful. Don't see anyway the games won't be delayed into the night

Re: 2022 NCAA Mens LAX tournament
42 & 1, right ?
The 1978 finals was the start of that long stretch of finals
for Hopkins.
Hopkins went to 9 straight finals.
The 42 & 1 record matched the Gait team years.

Re: 2022 NCAA Mens LAX tournament
73 Terps should be in the discussion.
Only thirteen undefeated NCAA champions in 50+ years. This year could see one more. Only three times did two undefeated teams play for the championship.
-1976 Cornell over Maryland
-1981 UNC over Hopkins
-1984 Hopkins over Syracuse
Re: 2022 NCAA Mens LAX tournament
anyone know where the NCAA would post info if the start times of the games are delayed due to thunderstorms?
any chance they do it in advance, rather than let thousands of people go to the stadium to sit in a concourse for hours waiting for weather to clear?

Cornell game-day twitter would be likely to post the news of a delay:

Re: 2022 NCAA Mens LAX tournament
That would seem to depend on latest lightning strike. Policy requires suspension of play if lightning is within 8 miles and a suspension of 30 minutes from last strike. Get a lightning rod hat to stay apprised of latest strike. Paul Carcaterra would call the lightning “a beast”.
Re: 2022 NCAA Mens LAX tournament
The Weather Channel now says scattered thunderstorms possible at 1pm, likely at 2pm. Imagine the screaming if game 1 completes on time and game 2 is delayed 6 hours!
