Georgetown 2022
Re: Georgetown 2022
Will he go back to his natural midfield spot or remain at attack, where thus year’s GT team could have used him?
Re: Georgetown 2022
If I'm Warne and Phipps, I keep him at attack and have him dodge off of ball movement instead of waiting, waiting, waiting to dodge like did at Cuse this past year. He's so explosive and two handed, I'd keep him down low. He'd draw a pole no matter where he played, so you might as well keep him down low as a threat to run run past defenders and draw slides.
Re: Georgetown 2022
Loyola fan here, but I always like to stop by and read the G’town thread.
First- congrats to a fantastic season you guys are such a complete program and team. The talent level is amazing and to win 4 conference tournaments in a row is no easy feat.
But for those wondering about next years results because of how much talent is leaving this year due to graduation- you have NOTHING to worry about.
You can get the top line guys in the transfer portal to plug and place the holes. You still have a great defense, a great offense with minicus and dordevic now coming in.
With how good everything is, I fully expect Georgetown to run the table again in the regular season. For the game between our two schools, I predict Georgetown will win the next 3 simply because of the talent disparity now with transfers and recruiting

Re: Georgetown 2022
I fully expect Dordevic to man the righty attack spot next year (barring a significant leap from one of the current righty attackmen such as MacLeod or Matheis). The way things stand now my best guess is Dordevic on the right, Haley at X, and one of Kelly/Minicus at the lefty spot with the other bumping up to midfield (or perhaps Minicus at X and Haley on the left wing if Kelly is the one playing midfield).Wheels wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 4:37 pmIf I'm Warne and Phipps, I keep him at attack and have him dodge off of ball movement instead of waiting, waiting, waiting to dodge like did at Cuse this past year. It will be interesting to see who the staff puts at midfield between Kelly/Minicus. My gut tells me it will be Minicus as he has more experience at that position and is more athletic -- he can do a lot of what Trippi did this year. But then again conventional wisdom is to keep your best players attackers on the field full-time when possible.
Re: Georgetown 2022
I don't think Kelly can beat a pole. He had more success this year at UNC when they ran him out of the box and got him using his speed on a short stick.
But then again, Trippi was just a replacement level player at UNC and wound up being an AA type guy for the Hoyas so. Perhaps Phipps can get more out of him

The Hoya fans are euphoric regarding the transfers for next year and most posters infer that they will be starters. While this is not-rare in post Covid, D1 lacrosse, are there concerns that this player grab along with Warne playing a short bench, will negatively affect recruiting since current players will likely be bypassed?

It’s a good and fair question. But I feel like each kid that they added they didn’t really have a choice. Meaning they are really good players so it is almost like why wouldn’t you add them?chuckbuckthecanuck wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 11:20 am The Hoya fans are euphoric regarding the transfers for next year and most posters infer that they will be starters. The other reality is that if the staff felt confident in a lot of these current players, maybe the bench wouldn’t have been so short last year?
Re: Georgetown 2022
We had a decommit a week or two ago. I don't know if it is related but if I'm a recruit it's something you have to take into consideration. That being said I think the staff is making the right moves for next year. We'll see how it pans out.chuckbuckthecanuck wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 11:20 am The Hoya fans are euphoric regarding the transfers for next year and most posters infer that they will be starters. Re: Georgetown 2022
Honestly, the disappointing playoff performance probably hurts recruiting more than transfers. Kids want to play, but kids also want to win.
One more offseason (after this) of the extra COVID year then back to normal. Would be silly not to take advantage of it. And the situation is the same at every school.

4 grad transfers and two embarrassing losses in the NCAA tournament should make any parent/player second guess committing to Georgetown. The kid is going to Princeton.

Is it? 5 star recruit flipped. It’s not coincidental.10stone5 wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:27 pmSillyCreasedive wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 6:40 pm 4 grad transfers and two embarrassing losses in the NCAA tournament should make any parent/player second guess committing to Georgetown. I believe Nate Kabiri in the 2023 class decommitted recently. Doubt grad transfers to Georgetown for the 2023 season played into that decision.random observer wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:46 pmWho was the decommit?Creasedive wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:40 pmIs it? 5 star recruit flipped. Re: Georgetown 2022
There’s a lot of reasons why a kid might change his mind. I don’t know anything about this particular instance, but I will give the benefit of the doubt and assume the best. Best of luck to him.Creasedive wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:40 pmIs it? 5 star recruit flipped. Heard it was the kids 4th school in 5 years and left because Georgetown wasn’t good enough academically. Given his track record, he’ll probably end up at a 6th school.Creasedive wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 6:40 pm 4 grad transfers and two embarrassing losses in the NCAA tournament should make any parent/player second guess committing to Georgetown.
