On "paper," this really looks like a great game: two really well-matched teams; two really good offenses, two good defenses, and exceptional, battle-tested coaching staffs. BC's man-to-man will be the best Maryland has seen this year, and all appear to be healthy (that is, Scales looked very sound yesterday). Sterling will have to have a very good game, and Maryland's slides to help will have to be really perfect.
I like BC in this one -- something like 17-15 -- but I have to confess Maryland has surprised me all year, and the Terps improvement from the beginning of the year is something like remarkable.
This should be a pleasure to watch, with no real skin in this game for me. Three of the final four teams have the best, prettiest ball movement in the game, and this game features two of them.

MD has looked good recently. And I'd enjoy watching them surprise everyone by beating BC *and* UNC but... I just don't see this happening. BC beats MD.

You get your wish. BC v. Maryland is the 5 PM game. Northwestern v. North Carolina is the 3 PM game. I’m sure the second game will start much later than 5 PM.Laxfan500 wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 10:23 amI feel like BC will win this one . Can’t wait to watch it ! BC really struggled on the draw yesterday, while Maryland after a tough start on the circle, continued its domination of the draw. With BC's win yesterday being the exception, the draw circle is most of the time where games are often won or lost. Bosco and Shannon Smith are beasts on the circle for the Terps. BC looked a step slow on the circle yesterday. BC's transition game was tremendous as was Belle Smith. Maryland's attack is sensational as is their defense. I can see the Terps winning a close one, but I think it will be a great game.

Everybody is guilty of extending threads from time to time. It's part of the deal when you sign up for Fanlax. I'm guilty on the NT one.
Everybody also gets irritated from time to time when threads get extended. I am irritated by the endless posts on SOS and RPI.
To each his or her own, I guess.

So I watched MD's quarterfinal win and some of BC's, here's what I think could be some keys to the game:
-The draw will be big. The Maryland games I've watched, if you let them string possessions together and go on a run, you're toast. It just makes them more confident on both ends of the field. BC will probably need to be better on the draw Friday as I don't see MD making the same mistakes Loyola did.
-I'll be interested to see how North and Cordingley are defended. MD rarely ever faceguards, and I think when the two teams last played in the 2019 title game BC decided to faceguard Erica Evans. Both offenses have enough weapons that you can't get caught putting too much focus on the top player.
-MD plays a more methodical brand of lacrosse, compared to BC, who is a bit more aggressive and looks to get out in transition more. It suits both teams, especially on defense. With Hall struggling at times this year, BC is definitely feisty and looks to get takeaways with the speed they have all over the field. MD is aggressive too, but looks like they have confidence in Sterling to bail them out, which she did early in the Florida game before the Terps started winning draws.
My gut tells me BC's speed and athleticism will be too much for MD, but as a recent MD alum I know it's foolish to count out a Cathy Reese team this time of year. BC is the best team the Terps have faced all year, but she'll have her team ready. If BC wins, then I guess I'll just turn my full attention to the MD men and their journey to be one of the best teams in the history of the sport.

Just a few weeks ago North had wraps on both legs and was clearly hampered. She doesn't look impeded here and no wraps/bandages for the last two games. All to say, a fully healthy Charlotte North is bad news for the Terps. Maryland hasn't faced anyone like her in the last few years, that's for sure.

That emoji pretty much sums up how North felt going 1v1 with one of the best defenders in the country. That is why nobody plays North straight up. Will be curious to see how CR game plans for her. Cathy does not normally face guard. Never did it to Appuzzo. I'm guessing same will be true vs North and CR will just rely on early slides.
