I think OSU is a little ahead of JHU, as OSU doesn't have any losses yet. OSU just needs to get a couple quality wins. OSU still has a chance for a pre-Big Ten play quality win versus at Notre Dame on Saturday. OSU should at least be well rested for that game.
Ohio State does have a QW as of this moment, #16 Boston U. That one may or may not stick as a QW, but on the other hand the UMass win (currently #23) could become top 20 depending on how they fare in CAA play.

IMO right now OSU is in so much better shape resume-wise than JHU that the comparison is a little silly. OSU has 5 wins that are all better (by RPI) than Hopkins's 2nd best. Not to mention 3 fewer losses as mentioned above.

Bubba Fairman won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
It's nice to see that the Big Ten recognized that Fairman was a midfielder and that 4 goals and 2 assist is a pretty outstanding performance for a midfielder, who goes off a lot. Charalambides has a nice game against Syracuse with 6 goals and 2 assists.

Defenseive Player of the Week - Roman Puglise Maryland
Specialist of the Week - Kevin Prouty Hopkins
Freshman of the Week - Bryce Clay Michigan

You just compared the likely fourth and fifth best teams in the Big Ten to the likely best and second best teams in the Sunshine Conference. Very telling indeed!

If Sunshine Conference teams care how much I, anyone else on this message board, or the establishment doubts them, they will struggle even more than I suspect. I'm very firm in my belief that Richmond and/or High Point will get absolutely rolled come the tournament, forward that bulletin board material to them, please. Hopefully it motivates them (you seem to imply that they need extra motivation to play well). It would be nice to see a local team besides Duke/UNC win something for a change.

The Big Ten wins the first 2 against the ACC with OSU beating Notre Dame and Terps beating UNC. Can Hopkins make it a sweep on the day?

No, Hopkins came up short. So I think the ACC won the match-ups 5-3

OSU, PSU and UMd all are looking in good shape for the NCAA tmt
Hopkins(4-4) and Rutgers(5-4) are outside the bubble, and Michigan (3-5) is looking pretty much done for.

I think Hopkins and Rutgers probably need to go 3-2 in the Big Ten regular season to have a decent shot.

On the above, to be fair, Jacksonville may have their own version of Asher Nolting. A guy that slipped through the cracks, John Galloway picked him up. Jack Dolan put up 8 points against Drexel, 7 against Towson, (and the B1G tie-in) put up 5 against Penn State and today another 5 against High Point. And also another B1G tie-in, did OSU look at this guy out of Ohio ?

I imagine that OSU must have, as not only does Dolan come from Ohio, he comes from Upper Arlington in Columbus.

Jacksonville has another nice attack recruit from Ohio coming in next year in Tommy Clayton from DeSales.

We'll know pretty soon who will join Maryland, OSU, and PSU in the B1G tournament. RU plays JHU in 2 weeks. While stranger things have happened, I don't think either of those two teams will upset any of the top teams in the conference. They'll both beat Michigan, who is reeling at this point. I think Hopkins will finish 4th, but there are no easy fixes to their problems (relying on a freshman to initiate a motion offense, lack of dodging threats outside of Epstein, small midfield, weak rope unit).

10stone-Myers recruits Canada and Baltimore. He typically will have some from Ohio on the roster but he lets a lot of good ones get away

Of course, quite a number of top Maryland players get away from UMd, quite a number of top Virginia players get away from UVa, quite a number of top Pennsylvania players get away from PSU,...

Logan Wisnauskas had a big game for the Terps with 4 goals and 4 assists, and A.DeMaio had an outstanding effort for a midfielder with 4 goals and 1 assist, but, in the end, I think if I am picking the Offensive Player of the week in the Big Ten, I have to go with Jackson Reid for OSU; his 4 goals and 1 assist seemed particularly key in OSU's win over Notre Dame.

The Big Ten seems to have ended up have 1 more loss this Spring OOC (and 4 less wins).

Maryland 8-1 .889
Penn State 7-1 .875
Rutgers 5-4 .556

Overall 34-15, .694

2018 38-14, .731

With conference play starting this weekend things look pretty clear.

Maryland, PSU, and OSU are in a class of their own, all three very likely to earn tournament spots.

Hopkins, Rutgers, and Michigan are fighting for that 4th spot. On paper Hopkins might be the best of the three but Rutgers always gives them fits, and given the last few years you'd expect the Scarlet Knights to fight hard to finally get a chance at the NCAA tournament. Michigan has struggled this year but they're capable of upsetting anyone.

Whoever gets that 4th spot will likely still have to win their first-round matchup in the Big Ten tournament to have a chance at an NCAA at-large berth. That's assuming that that team's only two conference wins are against the other two in this group, and not against the Maryland-PSU-OSU group. Stealing a win from one of those three would go a long way.

The Hopkins-Michigan loser is probably donezo.

The Maryland-PSU winner will have a great shot at #1 seed in the conference tourney.

Rutgers has an opportunity to change the course of its season with an upset over OSU this week.

Michigan's plus of the bottom 3 is that they do get 3 home games, while Rutgers and Hopkins only get 2.

Hopkins starts off at Michigan and then has their homecoming with Rutgers. If they could win both of those, it might give them some momentum going into the final three games. Not a bad set-up.

Logan Wisnauskas was named Offensive Player of the Week in the Big Ten
Kyle Pless Rutgers was Defensive POW
Austin Henningsen Maryland Specialist of the Week

I think that, on paper anyway, the conference games for Hopkins get tougher as they go. You could argue which of @PSU or @Maryland is tougher, but the rest seem to be in order to me.

The Big Ten season starts today.
3/30 #18 Johns Hopkins at Michigan at 3pm - Michigan has been really struggling with their face-offs. I thought Michigan played fairly well otherwise against Notre Dame. Unless Michigan can shore up the face-off problem, I think Hopkins will win this by 2 or 3.
3/31 Rutgers at #4 Ohio State at 12 noon on ESPNU - Two teams that play well at home. Of course, OSU is at home and is playing a bit better this season that Rutgers. I expect OSU to win by 3 or so.
3/31 #1 Penn State at #3 Maryland at 7pm on BTN - Both of these teams are playing really well. Perhaps, one gives the Terps a goal advantage at home.

I agree that on paper Hop, tOSU, and UMCP should win.

Ohio State is the pick of those 3 I feel least confident about.

After yesterday's games, today's Maryland vs. Penn State game is officially a #1 vs. #2 game.

Rutgers looked focused and sharp on offense and defense today in blow-out win at Ohio State, this despite losing 17 of 22 face-offs. The home team had won the last 4 match-ups between these teams so the result a bit of a surprise. After Rutgers gave up 4th quarter leads in the Lehigh and Syracuse games this should be a confidence booster. I think Rutgers strong out of conference schedule (Army, Loyola, Lehigh and Syracuse) was an advantage. Next week's Hopkins/Rutgers winner will be in good position to make Big 10 tournament as both currently undefeated in league play.

The Face-off numbers might be a little deceiving as Rutgers was able to get the ball away from Inacio quite a few times.
