Goal should count and push waved off unless there's unnecessary roughness involved.

I realize the rule is there to protect goalies, but still...

What am I missing?
Made all the worse by the fact that, from what I could tell of the replay, the goal was disallowed because Kirst was pushed from behind and his face bounced off the turf inside the circle.

Illegal push from behind while in the act of shooting, and the goal gets waved off. Ridiculous.

If this were basketball Kirst would have gotten an and-one.

I think everyone agrees this is a stupid rule.

I differ with your remedy. What if the push prevents a score? Then it's treated like any other penalty. But I'd trade a 30-sec man-down for a goal anytime.

So, when a goal is scored, it should count. But score or not, the offending team should be man-down no matter what. If a goal is scored, the ensuing face-off will be 3 vs 2; if no goal is scored, the man-down is called when the offending team gains possession.

To discourage this tactic even more, the length of the man-down can be increased on subsequent violations.
Agreed. A push is a push and should be penalized. Thought that was obvious... sorry.
It’s my understanding when the shot clock was instituted the rules guys wanted to bring back the dive to combat teams from using zone defenses. The current rule encourages attackman to take angles that prevent you from ending up in the Goal Mouth even if pushed.

Interesting that Rutgers is favored over Penn. I agree, but just surprised that Vegas thinks so. The spreads look about right to me, though I am surprised that Maryland is favored by nearly 6 goals. The O/U on Princeton/Yale and Cornell/Delaware are low.

An IPA Beer made by Ithaca Beer Company. Google it or go to their website. It's all I drink now. In fact, I'm having one (or more) right now.

Conference Check:

Ivy League: 4-2 (0.667)
Big Ten: 2-1 (0.667)
ACC: 1-0 (1.000)
Big East: 0-1 (0.000)
Everyone else: 1-6 (0.143)

Number of teams in the Tournament:
6 Ivies, 3 B1G, 1 ACC, 1 Big East, 7 Others

Number of teams in the Quarters:
4 Ivies, 2 B1G, 1 ACC, 1 Other

B1G vs Ivy: 1-1.
ACC vs Ivy: 1-0.

Seeded teams advancing: 6.

Looks like Saint Donna and the Guilded Round Table of Selectors have done pretty well, so far.

I was thinking award a 1-minute non-releasable? The goal could be disallowed but teams might get hit with two EMO goals -- maybe that removes the incentive to push a diver if you're beat?

I’m of the mind set to never take points off the board for any illegal play, while just not right it also encourages more of the same.

A little late to this thread so apologies if this has already been covered - but can anyone provide any intel as to why OSU is a quarterfinal venue? 100K+ seat stadium, not centrally located, doesn't make much sense to me...

That's an easy one as its all about the almighty dollar. Obviously, OSU offered up the Shoe at an extremely low price and the NCAA never passes up a bargain.

Not a thing, Tech. Not a thing. You're right....this is gonna cost someone a game at some point. And you just know the refs hate this stupid rule.
My guess is that, from the defense's point of view, stopping that (potential) goal with a push, and taking the 30s penalty, is a better bet than not. Which would mean that the rule actually makes things LESS SAFE for the goalie, by inviting the defense to push the attackman into the crease to save a goal.
Matnum PI posted videos of first round goals and I saw an identical situation in the Princeton vs BU game; but they allowed the goal.

Found the game video, look at play starting @ 49:20ish for penalty & goal at 49:35.

the only explanation is both refs missed him landing in the goalmouth briefly. it happens.
