We have them with the #20 SOS. Ironically, the top teams with a similarly low SOS is... PSU. Big game on Sunday. As an aside, OSU's SOS is #36.

03/31 vs Penn State
04/06 vs Michigan
04/14 @ Rutgers
04/20 @ Ohio State
04/27 vs Johns Hopkins
Yeah, some of the OOC opponents haven't had strong seasons. The Patriot League teams looked like they might have some staying power but have been so up and down. Villanova lost a lot from last year, but they, too, have been up and down. UNC teeters on the brink. It looks like a lot of the other B1G had their OOC opponents do the same. The bottom half of the B1G has really disappointed. Whoever gets that 4th spot in the B1G tournament might be the weakest 4th seed since the conference came into existence for lacrosse.

D1 MEN: Here are our Pre-Weekend Computer Rankings and... This weekend, 3 of the 20 Biggest Games will be played: 18th Biggest is Rutgers vs. OSU, 5th Biggest is Yale vs. Penn, and the #1 Biggest is... Maryland vs. PSU. Other games will eclipse this (e.g. the Championship Final, Final Four, etc.) but, for now, this is the biggest.

Two "good losses", one loss that hurts a bit more (vs. Lehigh) but still not a "bad loss", and 4 wins including, in order, Princeton, Fairfield, and Hofstra.

Their future seems to be more "good losses", possibly a "good win", possibly a win over Michigan, and boosts to their Points if/when Princeton wins more games.

That's the long answer. The short answer is, No bad losses and, more importantly, Princeton who just beat Denver.

I'm not seeing where the games ("Biggest games") are ranked. Was wondering: how do Penn State @ Yale and Cornell @ Yale rank?

Some key results in the top 5 today with
#5 Duke losing to UNC 10-8
#2 Yale losing to Penn 13-12 in ot

Assuming UVa handles Utah on Sunday, I imagine Duke will drop behind Loyola and UVa to #7.

If they lost to Hopkins would that be a good loss? Would it be a good win for Hopkins? Hopkins needs some good wins.

In a word, a good loss is a loss to a team ranked ahead of you. So, for RU, losing to JHU would be a good loss: #18 vs. #15. Wins are different. A loss is relative to you. A win is relative to your other wins. So, for JHU, it would be a good win. For Yale, beating RU would be a good, not great, win because they already have PSU and Cornell under their belt. RU would possibly be their #3 replacing P'ton. At least pre-yesterday's and today's games. For JHU, P'ton (or Delaware) is their best W. i.e. RU would potentially become their #1 W. (They really need some good Ws.) But, again, this pre-yesterday and today. I'll have to get back to you after we run the scores.

D1 MEN: Several big wins, big upsets today: UNC beat Duke, Penn beat Yale, and Brown beat P'ton. Not a big upset but a big win was Notre Dame beat Syracuse. Not a big win but a big upset was Robert Morris beat St. Joes.

Ohio State's undefeated streak is coming to an end, down 13-6 with a couple minutes to go.

OSU loses 14-6 to Rutgers.

It will be interesting to see where Ohio State ends up. The great win last week looks a little less impressive when it's followed up with this kind of showing. They'll reveal how good they are over the next few weeks but I think they might slip as far as 11 or 12.

I think OSU and Duke will fall a couple spots. But, it does not make any sense to put a team with 3 losses above OSU.

This is my projection for the week. I am assuming UVA beast Utah since they are winning 13-2 at half time.

If Maryland beats Penn State, they will be #1 and PSU will only drop to #2.

New Rank | Old Rank | Team | Result
1 | 1 |  Penn State (7 - 1) | @ MD 7 PM
2 | 3 |  Maryland (8 - 1) | vs. PSU 7 PM
3 | 6 |  Loyola (7 - 2) | Beat Colgate
4 | 7 |  Virginia (8 - 2) | Beat Utah, Beat Richmond
5 | 2 |  Yale (6 - 2) | Lost to Penn, Beat Air Force
6 | 4 |  Ohio State (7 - 1) | Lost to Rutgers
7 | 5 |  Duke (8 - 3) | Lost to UNC
8 | 12 |  Notre Dame (5 - 3) | Beat Syracuse
9 | 13 |  Penn (5 - 3) | Beat Yale
10 | 10 |  Cornell (6 - 3) | Beat Dartmouth
11 | 9 |  Denver (6 - 3) | Beat Georgetown, Lost to Princeton
12 | 11 |  Towson (6 - 3) | Beat Hofstra
13 | 8 |  Syracuse (5 - 3) | Lost to ND
14 | 14 |  High Point (8 - 2) | Beat Furman
15 | 15 |  Lehigh (7 - 3) | Beat BU
16 | 16 |  Army (8 - 2) | Beat Bucknell
17 | 26 | North Carolina (7-3) | Beat Duke
18 | 17 |  UMass (7 - 3) | Beat Drexel
19 | 22 | Rutgers (7-4) | Beat OSU
20 | 19 |  Hobart (8 - 1) | Beat St. Bonaventure
21 | 20 |  Johns Hopkins (5 - 4) | Beat Mich
22 | 24 | Delaware (8-2) | Beat Fairfield
23 | 25 | Villanova (6-4) | Beat Marq, Beat Brown
24 | 18 |  Richmond (6 - 4) | Lost to UVA

Thoughts?

A 24 NCAA bracket with the top 8 getting bye would be awesome this year.

Ohio State home car wreck against Rutgers likely to move them below Duke. Loser of Maryland-PSU falls to 4th if a close game 5th if not. What a mid season mish-mash. Tons of meaningful games to go.

I don't know if they will drop that far. Once you get past Loyola and UVa, most of the teams have 3 losses and Syracuse and Denver lost this past week. Perhaps Penn with 3 losses but winning over Yale could jump up over them. Maybe 7 or 8 will be where they land - although the magnitude of this loss could make in further.

Where does Yale move to? Does their 2nd loss being more current push them behind Loyola and UVa?
Of course, one of UMD or PSU will lose tonight, leaving us with 1 team in the top 5 with just 1 loss.

Penn State wins 13-10 over Maryland, so PSU stays at #1.
The next 4 teams lost, so a real shake-up after that.

This is a hard week to sort out the top 10.

That was a very impressive first quarter by PSU. I think Maryland will drop below Loyola and UVA.

New Rank | Old Rank | Team | Result

2 | 6 |  Loyola (7 - 2) | Beat Colgate
3 | 7 |  Virginia (8 - 2) | Beat Utah, Beat Richmond
4 | 3 |  Maryland (8 - 2) | Lost to PSU
5 | 2 |  Yale (6 - 2) | Lost to Penn, Beat Air Force
6 | 5 |  Duke (8 - 3) | Lost to UNC
7 | 4 |  Ohio State (7 - 1) | Lost to Rutgers
8 | 12 |  Notre Dame (5 - 3) | Beat Syracuse
9 | 13 |  Penn (5 - 3) | Beat Yale
10 | 10 |  Cornell (6 - 3) | Beat Dartmouth
11 | 9 |  Denver (6 - 3) | Beat Georgetown, Lost to Princeton
