We're in the tourney now; those are both tourney teams. You have to be invited to the tourney to play tourney teams in the tourney.

Yes, less info hurts any system. But which is hurt more: algorithms that are asymptotically efficient and can not use prior information, or a subjective eye test that uses rater experience? The answer, I suggest, is "it depends," not "statistical methods are always better than human/subjective ones." Deal.
