Ivy League 2022
Re: Ivy League 2022
Impressed with St. Joe’s, let’s call it midfield ride. Yale getting just harassed as they cross and after they cross midfield, no easy setups into organized O.
Re: Ivy League 2022
St. Joe's playing tough. Hope the Bulldogs depth can wear them down.

STJ not having to work very hard, making it look easy vs a #4

In case Hop and Syracuse fans were wondering where their top recruits went....two answers are Richmond and St. Joes.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:47 pm STJ not having to work very hard, making it look easy vs a #4

No, the potential Hopkins recruits probably headed to Duke, Maryland, Virginia, or the Ivies.a fan wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:53 pmIn case Hop and Syracuse fans were wondering where their top recruits went....two answers are Richmond and St. Joes.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:47 pm STJ not having to work very hard, making it look easy vs a #4
Syracuse works a different circuit, and I can see their recruits heading to St. Joe’s or Richmond.

Re: Ivy League 2022
Not the start I'd hoped for but not unexpected -- St. Joe's very impressive. Paquette playing well, fortunately. Would like to see the defense play more cohesively but, as calourie mentioned, we are where we are on defense. Hoping Yale can take care of the ball a bit more when they have it -- possessions hard to come by. Plenty of intensity to go around. Two good lacrosse teams getting after it. Not too much of a chance for the Yale ride yet but St. John's solving it so far (including a great goalie outlet pass for a fast break goal).

Yale looks mediocre, but this is seriously high level shooting from St. Joes. Gotta wonder if they can keep it up!

Re: Ivy League 2022
I would like to see Yale try a zone. It stabilized things against Harvard when the Bulldogs were struggling on D. (However, I am also not a national championship lacrosse coach so probably St. Joe's is lethal against a zone.) Glad to be down only one at half -- let's see what the halftime adjustments bring us.
Re: Ivy League 2022
Feels like the extremely lite version of what Yale did to Georgetown in 2019. Ton of faceoffs wins, explosive on offense, and surviving on defense by virtue of a possession adv. Not to that extreme but Yale's offense has been cooking plenty, just aren't getting the ball a lot and also can't get enough stops

This attitude and incorrect perspective is why Hopkins is watching this game from home.....and St. Joes is hanging with Yale at Halftime.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:58 pmNo, the potential Hopkins recruits probably headed to Duke, Maryland, Virginia, or the Ivies.a fan wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:53 pmIn case Hop and Syracuse fans were wondering where their top recruits went....two answers are Richmond and St. Joes.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:47 pm STJ not having to work very hard, making it look easy vs a #4

It’s you who is not giving St. Joe’s and Richmond enough credit. Anyone who plays lax well enough and has the academic resume to get into Hopkins are probably not deciding between Johns Hopkins and Richmond/St. Joe’s. Richmond and St. Joe’s don’t get as many “blue chips” but they get some real talented players and develop them into a terrific lacrosse team. They make do with less, and that’s a real credit to those two programs.a fan wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 6:11 pmThis attitude and incorrect perspective is why Hopkins is watching this game from home.....and St. Joes.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:47 pm STJ not having to work very hard, making it look easy vs a #4
But if your proposition is that St. Joe’s and Richmond are directly competing for talent with the Hopkins, Dukes, Virginias, and Ivies of the world, that is simply not true as a general matter. Doesn’t mean there are not individual examples, but those are very much the exception.

“Not to make excuses at all, but look many shots we had that were high, wide...different depth perception than playing inside the stadium. So anytime lacrosse gets a first round home game it will have to be played there because of graduation set up. The women too. I reminder a few years ago, the women's team was rocking. They play their game there, and the Navy women smoked them.
Its like a high school field. No, wait, high school fields have seating. Its like a practice field. No wait, it IS a practice field.

I’m a big believer in environmental factors, but it is Penn’s practice field. Or do they normally practice at FF? I would just practice and play at one field for the reasons you state. You play like you practice. So maybe don’t play at FF at all if this is how it will go in the event of future NCAA “home games”…

All these losing seasons, and you still don't get it. Probably never will. You better hope that Milliman doesn't think like you do.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 6:19 pm It’s you who is not giving St. Joe’s and Richmond enough credit. Desko and Petro brought in the supposed early "Blue Chip recruits" that IL and the lacrosse know it alls said to recruit. Turns out? They were A recruits, sure.....but C to B player when they actually hit the D1 lacrosse field. In short: they recruited the wrong players, and never gave the kids who were actually better D1 players a look.
Fishing from the wrong pond for, oh, about 7 years now.
That viewpoint certainly explains why Hopkins and Duke are sitting at home, watching.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 6:19 pm But if your proposition is that St. Joe’s and Richmond are directly competing for talent with the Hopkins, Dukes, Virginias, and Ivies of the world, that is simply not true as a general matter.
There are too many good players, Doc, and not enough spots at the programs you think are the cool schools. So the actual, real, Division I talent is landing elsewhere. Which means if the Tierney's, Desko's, Petro's, Tambroni's, et. al of the world aim, shoot, and miss with their recruit choices....
.....they're home watching the 1st round on TV. And the players they missed are playing for Richmond, St. Joes, and yes, Yale. It's beyond your comprehension that St. Joes has kids that would start at Hopkins. You think it's all coaching.
St. Joes isn't hanging with Yale late in the third with a bunch of chumps on the field, Doc.
But you don't want to hear this.
Re: Ivy League 2022
God what a game. This is too tense to take. Ball with an amazing effort to keep giving Yale a shot at possession.
Re: Ivy League 2022
Great game. Pure entertainment. I could use a little less "big boys need to wear their big boy pants" commentary. That aside, great game.
EDIT: Didn't notice there was a thread about the espn commentary. Glad to know I'm ot alone.

Broken clears cost Richmond the game and likely will loose it for SJ
