i'm sure faircornell and pizza will be chiming in on the quote.
I'm glad that he said something that was sportsman-like. I'd read his quote from the student newspaper that was particularly scathing with respect to the Committee.

I'm not very good in sharing links on FanLax. I need to upgrade my computer and (possibly) my phone. "ND Insider" May 8 has the article. If you Google "Notre Dame Lacrosse NCAA Tournament" it should come up as one of the featured articles. Basically, the coach says 'no one who's seen our last six games can possibly think that we don't belong in the tournament'. In my view, this remark coming from one senior person at a religiously affiliated university directed at another senior person from a religiously affiliated university seems a bit harsh.

I find it reassuring when a sense of entitlement goes unrequited.

Unfortunately for Corrigan and his team, the committee saw the results of ND's first six games. Twelve game season, not six. Sorry.

Actual quote: "We controlled what we could control, which was to win these six games in a row," Corrigan said after the Irish's win over the Blue Devils. "I don’t know how anybody watches us over these last six weeks and say that isn’t a team that belongs in the tournament."

This seems pretty mild to me, especially compared to how much screaming at refs Corrigan engages in.

fair, it wasn't scathing at the committee and it wasn't directed at another individual in retribution. it was after a win, and an innocuous coach-speak answer on playoff chances.
which happen all the time for probably every sport.

the ivies and others have some big games this weekend. it'll be over too soon if we blink.

Agree. If I were a Notre Dame fan, I'm sure I'd be upset as well. I don't begrudge them that. What I dislike in ascending order, whether it's from other ACC fans or ND fans, is (a) the knee-jerk and silly denigration of the entire Ivy League; (b) the sweeping condemnation of an RPI-based system by the partisans of a league that dined out on it at selection time for years; and, worst of all (c) the really ugly online vitriol, plenty of it steeped in misogyny, directed at the female chair of the five-person selection committee.

Best wishes to all the Ivy League teams this weekend. Cornell led the way in 1971 for the proposition that the National Champion should be decided on the field, not in a smoke-filled room somewhere in Baltimore. GO BIG RED!

I thought that seemed incredibly mild as well. If that's as incendiary as he got, I have zero problem with that. Hell, I even agree with it: ND is a team that belongs in the tourney. Unfortunately, they fell just short; committee had to pick between other equally qualified teams and ND got the short straw.

Agree on 1 and 3 (and strongly agree on point 3). Is there a lot of RPI condemnation as well? Because RPI ain't what did them in; It was a committee smart enough and brave enough to look beyond RPI.

That's a good point. I guess really my #2 point is more of an extension of #1 -- the folks saying "all the Ivies are horrible and would be crushed by any ACC team" or those saying "but Princeton didn't even make the conference tournament" tend to be discounting RPI in the case of the five Ivies with top 10 RPIs (Princeton #3, Penn #4, Yale #6, Cornell #8, Brown #10). But it's certainly true that it is the inclusion of Harvard, with an RPI behind both ND and Duke, that is the focus of the ire.

This is an IVY League thread. Am a little tired reading about ND and their alleged snub. Take it to an ND thread. IVY league is the topic and trial starts today at noon. Best of luck to all the IVY teams.

Agreed it’s game day…F those other conferences
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Word

I think today has to rank as one of the greatest days in IL lacrosse history. Who would have ever predicted that we'd ever see 4 Ivy League teams hosting 4 games on the first day of the NCAA tournament? And with two more games on tap for day 2? And especially who would have thought it heading into this of all seasons?

Though I will be rooting for St Joes as stupid fans like us do like to bathe in the glory of our conference brethren no different than SEC football fans claiming dominance because of Alabama.

As a man with a graduate degree from an SEC school that is not Alabama, I can confidently say that there's no force on earth strong enough make me root for Alabama...unless, of course, they're playing The Ohio State University. Eff those pretentious a-holes and their definite article.

Which kind of brings us full circle. Go Big Red!
