No I get it and not bothered by any of those but even under your methodology one really has to lean heavily on the Cornell win for Army vis a vis UVA or completely dismiss the losses it seems. Even if you want to throw out the * game but then you’re back into subjectivity territory, that Lehigh loss along with the relative collections of wins seems like it would still skew towards UVA > USMA.

Of course double counting UNC can cut both ways I think as well.
I don't have a strict mathematical formula that I employ with the numbers. Otherwise, might as well just use one of the many existing algorithms out there. So there is some subjective evaluation. They are more like guideposts to help avoid any hype or recency bias. Which keeps me from doing things like moving Army from 12 to 5 to 16 three weeks in a row (media poll). In this case, I did highly value the top ten Cornell win, which I do across the board (top 10 wins). And I discounted the Army loss to Navy because, well... Army/Navy. But to be honest, I'd be fine with either UVA or Army anywhere in the 11-14 range.

Farfromgeneva wrote: Fri May 06, 2022 12:59 pm It was just a petulant comment by a salty UVA fan. No amount of data or facts would make a difference here. Or logic.
I do like UVA but I am both a Penn Grad alum and primarily a Quaker fan. If Penn plays UVA, I will root for Penn. Unfortunately for my fantasy existence, I am also a realist as well and know that if UVA played Penn 10 times UVA would win at least 8 times and likely by 5 or 6 goals. If UVA payed any of the Ivies, it is my position that they would win 6 or 7 out of 10 albeit by a much smaller margin. Look at Ivy squads individual (not 1 from (column A and 1 from B) defensive efficiency numbers or goal tending strength, or FOGO abilities.

Which Ivy possesses the COMBINED strength of an attack unit of Moore, Schellenberger, and Cormier, AND a FOGO like LaSalla, AND a goalkeeper that matches Nunes, AND a defense of Saustad, Kastner, Matsui and Bower AND a line of middies comparable to Connor, Dickson, Schutz, Garno, and Sallade?

I want to see the 2 best teams meet on Memorial day--Maryland and UVA!!!
Yet there is no data from this season to support this. Yes they have a lot of talent but that doesn't mean they are a good team. Sounds like you want to do a "circle jerk" with UVA

One only did a top 10 and excluded them
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Enough about the NCAA tourney committee. Who votes in the “media” poll?

ND never deserved their high ranking this season. Sncked and yet were highly regarded. Maybe some sage here can explain that mystery?
Couple things - feels like media trying to stick it to committee by putting them that high. That said, The media in fairness to them is not held or influenced by any set criteria. They vote week to week on who are the top teams. Meanwhile the committee voted on resume. I think the fact the media has them that high and fact they didn’t make the tournament are both probably proper results given the difference between a current poll and an evaluation of a year’s resume.

I think the fact the media has them that high and fact they didn’t make the tournament are both probably proper results given the difference between a current poll and an evaluation of a year’s resume.
Notre Dame is not #4 based on current play. 2 goal win over Duke just doesn't measure up. They can only be ranked that high based on speculation (i.e "I think they would beat all but 3 other teams if they played tomorrow"). Nothing about that evaluation will have changed come May 31st. Will be very curious to see if the media sticks to their evaluation in the final 2022 poll.

Computer rankings that use scores as input like ND a lot. They are #3 in both laxpower and Massey ratings, #8 in lacrossereference's LAX-Elo ratings.

Even methodologies that use Ws and Ls only like them more than the committee: ND is #9 in both KRACH and lacrossereference's Strength of Record.

I can not see Loyola or UMass being on anybody's poll.

I think ND got screwed

After the great years they had, I would rather have seen Army and Jacksonville over the 5th and 6th best from the Ivy's

A team that does not make their conference tourney should not be eligible

the play in games should be between the last four at large to get in, all the AQ's should be in the tourney and not have to "play in".
