Re: Ivy League 2022
I will admit to being shocked that neither Notre Dame nor Duke made it. Wow. Is the crux of it that ND was too low in RPI to climb up high enough by beating Duke? And then Ohio State had beaten ND head to head?
Re: Ivy League 2022
Much as I hate to admit it, ND is #3 in both laf's laxpower ratings and in the Massey ratings, both of which use game scores as key inputs.
But omitting RPI #7 (Duke) is a real shock. Must be the three losses to 21+ teams.

In 2017, the Ivy was one-bid league. In 2018 Cornell had to win the ILT to make it two bids. Two again in 2019. Six! Wow.
Now LET'S GO WIN SOME GAMES!

Re: Ivy League 2022
I see that Duke finished 8 in RPI (but a lot of losses and three “bad losses” and Notre Dame finished 11 in RPI. The Committee Chair just saying right now ND didn’t have enough significant wins. People will be talking about this year for a while, I think! The Orfling wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:23 pm I will admit to being shocked that neither Notre Dame nor Duke made it. Wow. six? Six? SIX!!
Reading too much into it to think there was a bit of messaging by the committee about 'gaming the rpi system' as played by ND (too few games) and Duke (so many bump-the-win-total games*)?
* of course, you have to WIN them too, not have 3 'bad' losses.

Let the celebrating (Ivy) begin and crying and whining continue (ACC). Congrats to all the Ivies that earned their place in the Tournament.

She was impressive — conceding how difficult it was but speaking calmly and confidently to explain the approach.MoralTerpitude wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:23 pmExploding as we speak.
Donna Woodruff is breaking it down. Bad losses for Duke, not enough quality wins for ND. Time of year and being hot doesn’t matter. No thought to moving UVa around (they are in Maryland’s group of four). They had criteria, and they stuck to it.
I don’t know who this woman is, but I think I’m in love!

Quint and Carc used Ivy League games they were commenting on as vehicles to talk up ACC teams relative to Ivy teams. As usual, just showing how much they don't know... and we know they're never satisfied focusing on the specific game in front of their and our eyes.

Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Anish, Carc and Terry Foy all terribly upset on social media about Notre Dame being excluded. ND is a really good team, but only playing 12 games is sub standard.

Re: Ivy League 2022
I'm stunned that Harvard got in over both ND and Duke.
I say this as someone who's followed IL lacrosse for over 45 years, and always been a fan: I'm not sure I agree with Harvard getting the nod over those two, either. If Harvard had beaten Yale, heck yeah, but I felt their resume fell just short.
That said, Rutgers is an interesting draw for them. I'm not convinced re: Rutgers. I guess we'll see.
Good luck to all the Ivies this weekend. Looking forward to it.

Wonder how much BU putting away the PL title might’ve helped them at the end of the day.ICGrad wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:55 pm I'm stunned that Harvard got in over both ND and Duke.

They played 12. Hadn’t thought about that as a reason to exclude them. Personally I think they’re a great team, but they only really beat Duke.faircornell wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:49 pm Anish, Carc and Terry Foy all terribly upset on social media about Notre Dame being excluded. I think what’s crystal clear is that the committee really valued top-5 and top-10 wins, and looked at head-to-head. Harvard beat Princeton, which obviously was the marquee win they needed to get into the tournament. They also beat tournament teams in Brown and BU.
OSU beat ND and Harvard. With Duke out, ND actually didn’t beat a single tournament team.
Re: Ivy League 2022
They’ve been doing that for a few years now, faircornell wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:49 pm Anish, Carc and Terry Foy all terribly upset on social media about Notre Dame being excluded. ND is a really good team, but only playing 11 games is sub standard.
a real mystery why,
chances are their coaches will be on the phone soon
enough to schedule an Ivy team or two.
Re: Ivy League 2022
Yeah, certainly made that a more impressive win for Harvard and, when tipping the scales, another win over a tourney team. That might have put them over the top.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:59 pm Wonder how much BU putting away the PL title might’ve helped them at the end of the day.
